I was laid off back in June and have been struggling to get a new job since. I have a PhD in biochemistry and more than a decade of experience in the laboratory. I've have submitted countless applications, had several dozen recruiter interviews, and a few dozen hiring manager interviews but no offers. I'm treated as worthless.

I feel you. But my phd is in computational chemistry and I can't find anything atm after months. I thought I needed lab experience to get a chance... I might even have to go into teaching 😢

Don't even get me started. I got a 3rd interview for a call center and because I am so tired, I canceled the interview because I realized I don't want to be attached to a headphone, metrics and etc. The jobs I want and qualify for don't give me a chance and these resume " words," I'm not doing it cause I would have to do it again and again and again.

What that man says is useless because when we apply we will of course apply for something we are qualified for and we will either use them or not apply at all. I mean, if I can use the key words in my cv... I mean cover letter... I will. Does that man even know the difference between a cv and cover letter? What's also horrifying to me is that when you are looking for do long you start to get so desperate that you apply to places where you dont even wanna be, so if you do get hired you might not even last there and the search starts all over.

6 months for me. I have a bachelors degree in cybersecurity and moved to a big city and can’t land an interview for even an IT job. For a field that’s so “in demand”, there’s no demand. I’ve been losing hope this week and crying and sleeping in bed between applying for jobs. I’m actually starting to run out of new jobs to apply for. I hate life

It’s a huge waste of time and anything that waste time does not feed stomachs. These companies think we have the luxury of having the whole day to cater to their ridiculous job requirements and YOE on our resumes just to still get ghosted after

  • @Juan_Codes

Right because, it's all about crafting the perfect resume and the perfect cover letter, it has nothing to do whether the company is actually hiring, whether the hiring manager actually likes you or not, whether they think you're experienced enough, etc.

Innovation to these companies hiring managers means relying on AI software to search through hundreds of applicants who might otherwise be eligible for hire, and sorting through the candidates who are also using AI software to compete with other potential candidates who may or may not resort to AI in order to find basic jobs that they’re very likely qualified for in order to find the most overqualified or hardest working applicants to fill the role of the least paid underling, and consider that more affordable and a better use of their time and resources then being surprised when no one wants to work for them or is ineligible for a glorified entry level position… don’t feel discouraged if you decide to apply elsewhere or give up entirely… these industries are doing it to themselves… welcome to the AI takeover that is the dystopia of our modern world

Hey, I have a much better and simpler idea than the 'change the keywords on your resume' solution: why don't companies and employers fix their broken hiring system and stop relying so much on shitty applicant tracking software and faulty AI, instead of literally outsourcing the onus onto us, the applicants and job seekers.
