    Much nicer than those white ones. I never liked those kind either.
    Love the black. I used to sew canvas covers for the fenders on a couple of my older boats. It looked great but was a pain !

      Agree. And the problem that we've seen with covers is that they tend to get beat up over the season. At least, that's for folks who actually get out of thier marinas during the summer 😉

      I knew a guy who never left the marina but one decided to and broke down. The impeller was so dry!! It crumbled.

    We were introduced to some really neat plugs that don’t require the knots in order to keep the lines through the fender.
    They provide a clean finished look. Just an FYI thanks for posting.

      @BoatingWithBoogaboo  5 лет назад

      Yes, I've tried them as well, I believe. We tried the two-piece plugs on the fenders of our 400 Sedan Bridge, but had a couple pull through in the locks. As I've mentioned (probably way too many times 😂), that ship was a heavy sail in the wind and pressing up along those lock walls might have been too much for them. . .

      In the meantime, glad you enjoyed this one. Be sure to catch up in some of my many, many cruising videos while you're here.

    Fender valve position comment. TaylorMade recommends 2psi which certainly doesn't sound like a lot but when a 20,000-30,000lbs boat gets pushed hard against the dock I'm sure that pressure increases dramatically. I've never seen the valve blow out myself but I did hear a story this past summer about an industry professional who had it happen to him. He said it cut deep into his forehead and a few inches one way or the other would have cost him his eye.

    A figure 8 knot is much neater and looks more like you know what you are doing that a granny knot. i threw out the fender clips that came with my boat, they were a pain and a round turn with one or to half hitches is quicker and easier to adjust that those clips. Thanks for posting.

    Just so you know, you can buy fender lines, saves you work and money, you can buy different lengths, instead of paying extra for longer lines that you need to cut and waste.

    Paul, just a word of caution, the air nipple should face down. If the fender ever "blows" due to pressure, the nipple could release/pop at a dangerous speed upwards towards a person eyes, face etc.

      Interesting thought, something that never came to mind. I'm sure in the thought of super, extra ultra safety, it should be considered for those watching and wanting to install them on their own boat 👍

    Great stuff Paul, maybe I'll post a video on my channel of the setup I use. I've had great luck with Fender Extenders (made in NH by Nautical Design Labs) to easily hang the fenders without tying any knots, Taylor Made Big Boy fenders, and this year I'm trying out the Taylor Made Fleece fender covers.

    When I cut road for my boat or for anything I wrap electrical tape around the road but I use a wood chisel and a hammer and I put the road on a piece of wood and put the chisel on the roap and with one swing of the hammer the roap gets cut

    Great video. Although that is not a true monkey fist knot. I like how you leave the valve on the top of the fender so it does not get mossy.

    Perfect timing - new fenders are one of a dozen projects that I have to take on. For the first time in 3 months I’ll be on my boat tomorrow (indoors) tackling some of them. I like the black and favor the center hole type but until now didn’t know how to attach the rope. I’m curious how you will reply to Mike Peer’s comment about a fender blowout, is there enough air pressure in it to cause damage? Unrelated to this video - I’m quite envious of your anchor. If not this year definitely next year I will replace mine. As always I appreciate and enjoy your posts!

    • @BoatingWithBoogaboo
      @BoatingWithBoogaboo  5 лет назад +1

      I think Mike has a valid consideration, but I'm gonna leave ours as installed. I'm not sure of the pressure in those things, but my way of thinking is that if my boat ever hit something so hard as to explode a fender, I'd have a lot more to worry about 😉
      And thanks for the compliment in the anchor. When you are looking, be sure to check out www.Anchoring.com, the folks who sponsored our beauty. Mention my name and I'm sure they'd be happy to work with you . . .

    Do these fenders keep the boat from sinking? (If you put like 20 more all around the boat).

    • @BoatingWithBoogaboo
      @BoatingWithBoogaboo  Год назад +1

      No. They are only designed to protect the hull from impact.

      @@BoatingWithBoogaboo Thank you so much for your reply. I watched "All Is Lost" (2013 film) and the very first thought came to my mind was this huge question: Why didn't his boat have any fenders? Why didn't he install them for his long journey?
      They would have minimized the damage when the boat collided with the wayward shipping container. They would have helped the boat from sinking so fast...
