I like your style of being a dad. Watching him grow and increased participation is heart warming. He will have that time spent captured forever through your channel. Lucky boy.
4/4 family members agree we need more piglet content!!! Thanks for such a great channel, my fam lives following what you folks are up to around the homestead ❤
Like watching your interaction with your SON. If more parents would spend the time and teach and give kids something to do there would be a lot less kids in trouble. My DAD always said if you want a kid to stand on there own 2 feet put a little responsibility on there shoulders Teach them young and it will always stay with them Stay Safe and keep the videos coming. Could you please do a video on your Mealworm farm? I am part of a homesteading guild in North Carolina, and I mentioned the brief segment you had on them in a previous video, and now everyone here wants to know more about the process and how you got started. Love your videos, looking forward to watching the pigs progress!
That female you decide to breed is capable of breeding at around 6 months old so it shouldn't be long before she's ready if you can find an uncut male to breed her. If you're open to suggestions, I recommend finding someone with a boar and taking her to the boar to be bred After she's had a litter from that boar, then buy a male and he can breed not only her but the females from the litter without in-breeding. If you buy your own boar to breed her at first, he's not going to be able to breed the off-spring without in-breeding.
Another great update Wes! Big & little Chickens, and now new Piglets, all looking well! Little Foreman being a great help as always! He is sure growing fast! Great to see Cheeto too - I could lose a few hours giving him some cuddles! Stay safe & well - Dave. 👍👍
Well done with the pig's. I started raising my own pigs 3 years ago and I'm happy with them. At first I would buy 2 or 3 at a time every six months, until last year's February that I decided to buy 2 gilts and a boar with the purpose of breeding them. The sows are landrace-large white cross and the boar is a Pietrain. The sows were bred at 7 months old on July 7th and 14th respectively and had their first litter in October 27th and November 4th. One gave birth to 10 and the other to 12. The one who birthed 12 lost one of then because she accidentally crushed it. I kept 3 from each one and sold the others. And now they're pregnant again. One is due on March 30 or 31 and the other on April 6-7. So I wish you good luck and godspeed
I would definitely get a cement mixer to mix up the feed! Even if it’s just one for your drill I’m sure it could save you a lot of time and stress on your body!
Wes, you serve a very generous Master who showers you and your family with His Blessings daily. Thank you for baring witness of those blessings to all of us here through RUclips. Keep the good stuff coming!
Premier 1 fence, their pig fence is smaller mesh on the bottom (shock or not) solar. You can put a battery opertated drip timer at the faucet. you need pressurization for it so I put a double spigot on the faucet & leave the hose side in the off position. Auto timer is SO nice. Awe, your mini me, he looks just like you!
I mix feed with a paddle on a drill. You can buy them or it’s an easy at home project. I used some all thread and squared off an end to chuck in the drill and then took a piece of angle iron with a hole drilled through the center and then double nutted the top and bottom.
That was great, Wes! Really good! Nice touch on the well pump! I have an antique well pump on a very old and unused well. Good job on the drippers! That's the way to go! Good looking hogs! We raised Hampshire/Duroc's. We'd have 120 piglets on the ground at times. 10 sows, 1 boar. We raised ours for the "Market"...back in the late 70's. Careful with the Momma's, they can easily and often can roll over on their babies. A birthing pen. All the best to you ALL! I loved being a hog farmer even if it was only a brief time a long time ago. That's for your efforts!
Hi there, I am a new subscriber. I just wanted to say thank you for your videos. This is the first one I have watched and I love the ways you teach your son. I have never been on a real farm, and I am 54, so thanks so much for teaching your son great and valuable skills that I never got to learn. Thanks for being a wonderful father!
thanks for the video. very interesting watching you fix the mix for the chickens and pigs. hope all goes well with the new endever with the new raising of the pigs. have a great week-end with the services tomorrow, and a great and blessed week.
Well Wes, it looks like you are going to be having a lot of fun while working with and for the pigs. Maybe a mulching mixer might cost less than a cement mixer. With your imagination, you could probably make something that uses the power off of the back of the tractor. Have good days!
Try some chilli flakes in your chicken feed. It apparently gives a better yoak and would like to get your opinion. Just came across your video and new subscriber now.
Great video bud 👍 Beekeeping season is about to kick off up here in Michigan can't wait to get into the hives and compare this year's harvest with yours, I have learned a lot from your videos and am now in my 3rd year thanks for your efforts and great content very inspiring and your son is going to be in a very good position in this life with a father like you....
I've watched you for couple years now and you are certainly not dumb , but there are 100's of homesteaders raising animals with videos of the do's and don'ts. My gosh spend a little time and pick what suits your situation best from their videos. It will save you time and money. WOW!
It's going to be a fun summer with all of the new animals. I would suggest that you figure a way to mount your grinder closer to the ground so that you don't have to lift the corn as high to load it. That would also let you watch and refill the bin easier. Really enjoy watching you with your son.
I loved the trap!! He cracked me up quicker than quick! Did you figure out your new pig pen location? Time to break out the saw mill?, When is the next house renovation video, i am curious how the beams worjed.
Not sure on the next house resto video, hopefully within the next two weeks. Beams aren't even up yet. Lots of stuff happening. I'm thinking about putting a training pen above the chicken coop, but we'll see.
Hey Mr. Green Jeans !! Well, you've jumped into the deep end of the pool, haven't you !! Piglets, and Chickens, and Turkeys OH MY !! And our Junior Supervisor is well in the game as well !! I thought the fencing you had in the previous incarnation kept the (piggies) in well, if memory serves. I don't think you ever showed an escape piggy back then either. If you watched (The Modern Yeoman) his slaughter day was an all day event within his huge compound community, and they got freezer(s) full of food that is probably going to last them a good long time, seeing the size of the pigs they took down. They were bigger than the pigs you saw on that farm at the outset of that portion of the video.
Wes not sure without being there but seems your fence just isn't hot enough. If a pig touches it at all it should be hot enough to cause them to squeel. A good temporary solution would be take some of your slab wood and erect a short blocking fence just outside your netting. Then get your fence charger a bit hotter enough to make them sqeel a little when they hit it. They will soon learn to respect it.
I agree that the fence seems a little weak. I wonder if it's because the battery is a bit weak from sitting all winter in the shop. It's very sunny today, so I'm hoping the solar panel will top it off. They seem to be respecting it so far. I think the two strands did the trick.
Should get you one of them compost barrels and turn it into a hand mixer. I am new to the channel so if you have a video or have said this before I apologize. Where did you get the grinder and what kind is it. That would definitely one in handy on my farm.
I like what you're doing there. As for the fence, it might just be a case of you got what you paid for. I don't have any knowledge about that company, so take it with a shovel full of salt. But good luck with the pigs. Thanks.
Could be. It seems to work as advertised, but I think the pigs are just too small. They have not been out in the two days since I put those two wires down.
Could you explain the economy of buying all those bags of food and other costs being a net gain over buying chicken and eggs. Just curious and I think it would be interesting.
I'm not sure what the ratio is on the chicken feed. I've got that bucket marked so I forgot the weights. I got the recipe from Survival HT. Here's that video: ruclips.net/video/l_5fNgHy-Qo/видео.html On the pig feed, it's 50 pounds of corn (cracked is good, but if you can grind it, that's even better), 12 pounds of soybean meal, and 1lb, 10oz of minerals. I got that recipe from here: ruclips.net/video/NmyzavfAkP0/видео.html As far as my reasoning goes, I started using these recipes because they seemed to work well for the folks in those videos. I've been using the chicken feed recipe for several months now and can't imagine going back. Really great feed. The pigs are growing nicely on that recipe too, so I'm happy.
Is there a difference in the female/male meat? Curious why your dad picked a male and others picked a female? Good luck on the pig pen adventures!! 💖💖🎶🎶
Supposedly males grow quicker. I don't think there's a difference in the taste. I picked three females because I want to be able to choose a nice one for breeding, this way I will have options. Cool! Should have lots of pig content in the coming months.

Mixing solution: Walmart composting tumbler. About $80. But it spices your problem of mixing the food. Holds 27 gallons.
