    How's it going everyone?
    Here is my second attempt at restoring vintage tools. This time I was giving a second life to a pipe wrench STILLSON WALWORTH No 14 Made in Boston USA.
    Not exactly sure how old is it, but seems pretty old, if anyone has an idea feel free to drop a comment down below!
    This time I used Electrolysis to remove the rust, this is such cool experiment to witness! And pretty easy, everyone can do it.

    Remember that the imperfections are just part of the story for the tool! it's had a long life, and those little dings and dents are just scars from the journey!

    Young man I just watched two of your other restorations, and now this. I want to thank you as I am disabled and the electrolysis I
    was stuck with because of the car battery, but seeing you with the power adaptor, I am going to give this new hobby ( for me ) a
    good go, and get me of my butt! I can only hope that in time I can do as good a job as yours, love your work, keep up the videos.

    Very nice job, and better than new in some respects. I think there's a difference between cleaning up an old tool to use, vs. restoring one for the RUclips audience. I know all about skinless fingers from too much sanding, but the hand work made for a better video, and will appeal to young guys with limited power tools.

  • @sandydogy

    Cn you use the solution more than once with the electolisis? or clean solution every time?

    • @Take_And_Make
      @Take_And_Make  4 года назад

      Clean solution every time, takes 15 sec to make a new one and cost you nearly nothing.

  • @arymonem

    Really awesome restoration! Came out very nice, but I just wish you wouldn’t have painted the wooden handle. After sanding it, i would have just applied linseed oil, or shellac to keep the natural old wood look preserved. But it’s your tool, and I understand your reason.

    What do you used to protect the metal? Is there an electrolosis coating you can put on it>>??

    • @Take_And_Make
      @Take_And_Make  5 лет назад

      I didn't protect this one, besides spraing it with penetrating oil and I store it in dry place. But you can make a Hot Vinegar patina to protect it from rust, it will change the color though

    I saw you heating up those pivot pins to reinstall them, but were they the original ones or do you have to buy new, and if you do have to buy new ones, where can I purchase? Thanks

    • @Take_And_Make
      @Take_And_Make  Год назад +1

      I reused mine pins, but you can buy round stock mild steel in big buck stores or metal supermarkets that should work for you, just measure it with calliper.

    The Stillson turned out great. I, personally, would have left the wood handle natural and just waxed and sealed it. Great job overall though.

      @Take_And_Make  5 лет назад +1

      Ya, I was going to leave it natural, but previous paint stained handle so deep, couldn't get rid of it while sanding.
