- After thinking about this for the last year or so... we've decided to move. Maybe we'll be back one day but we found a house near family that we'll be moving into in a few weeks! It'll be an adjustment but excited for the changes!

Congratulations on your new home! As a New Yorker, I understand your sadness about leaving NYC, but it’s important for children to develop that bond with extended family. Looking forward to seeing new decor videos in your new home.
This is SO right. I've been thinking about my past a lot lately, as I get older. My parents did not make the wise choice that this lady is making. They chose to remain isolated from both their families, for seemingly no reason at all other than selfishness on my father's side and passivity on my mother's. I grew up with no siblings, cousins, aunts or uncles, only my mother and father and her mother, my Granny. They are now all dead and I have nobody. Literally nobody. If we had even moved just a couple of hours away I could've grown up with all my mother's extended family. If we'd moved back east, I could've grown up with two aunts and an uncle and a slew of cousins. Instead I am completely alone, and it's too late to move now and try to forge bonds that should've been created 50 years ago. PrettyInThePines absolutely did the right thing.
This is the most beautiful house! I can't wait to watch you turn it into home. Growing up in Eastern Europe in the 90's, my dad was telling me that those type of houses we see in American movies are not real. They were just a fake movie set. Imagine my surprice when I moved in the states...

As a fellow Southerner who lived in NYC for years and left when my kiddo was two, I so relate to the transition you’re undergoing! But I promise, as soon as you see him playing in the yard, it’ll all feel worth it! As he grows, you’ll be able to offer him independence and a kind of childhood that he would never have in the city.

We moved 1 1/2 years ago to a much quieter older neighborhood in another city. No traffic, less people. It was amazing. Large trees, people love to garden & take care of the lawns, walk their dogs, much more courteous people. It’s like going back in time. You will love it and forget about the noise, rush of people and traffic soon. It’s amazing. Congratulations! 🎉
Just bought a house and literally wrote the exact same thing in my buyer letter- i.e., i feel like I’m going back in time

They just finished putting up a big fence this week so I realllly can't wait to see her frolic in the yard now.
As an individual that lived for years of my Life in BOTH New York City and Florida for a multitude of years , I wholeheartedly concur with you Shelby on every sentiment you so openly and vulnerably expounded upon pertaining to each location. I am now comfortably ensconced in a cozy, warm, inviting 1945 Colonial Revival with shutters on the windows as I had dreamed of since I was a little girl and I now have the loveliness of an existence among all four seasons! I and as I suspect an innumerable amount of your viewers have been so deeply enamored with all that you so creatively did to bring your family's New York apartment to breathtaking, aesthetically-wondrous Life. I can truly say that most of us will remain with you along the journey of decorating your new Home. Thank you for inspiring us and inviting us into your visions and manifestations of what a Home can be. Even though your days as an NYC resident are dwindling, I fervently hope that they will nonetheless, remain utterly MAGICAL for you all. 🖤
We can really feel the emotion in your voice 🥹 As a true Parisian girl I can't picture myself anywhere else than in a big city, but raising kids there is just crazy ! Also, don't minimize the effect of moving on your mental health, take care of yourself 🥰

I was born and raised in New York. New York is wonderful but when you start having kids, not so much. I now live in New Bern, NC and absolutely love it! Best decision of my life.
EDIT: I didn’t mean to sound snooty about FL! I love FL and have family there and know it’s a BEAUTIFUL place. I just meant I couldn’t live without 4 seasons!
Haha! I agree with you! Floridian born and raised there and moved to upstate NY. I just can’t believe I never moved sooner the seasons are amazing!!
What a BEAUTIFUL home! It is lovely as it is and will only get more so once you put your stamp on it! I watch a lot of interior decorating content on RUclips and you are definitely my favorite! I am so happy for you and your family . The pros are going to far outweigh the cons.

Happy you are moving to a beautiful house with a lot more space & nature around it. You made your NYC apartment beautiful, but despite this effort, it will never be as beautiful as that stunning NC house. Congrats!
I discovered you on Instagram, last Christmas, after hearing some really great jazz playing as you shared your apartment. I was hooked! I look at your journey and time goes by so quickly. I’m 64 now, children are grown and all except one are out of state. I remember our move from Ohio to Alabama and how magical it was walking into our newly built farmhouse style home. January 1st 1999, the time has slipped away. Having family nearby while raising your young family is important. I’ve been back in Ohio for 22 years now, where did the time go. Thanks for sharing your beautiful home and taking us along! Have so much fun!! Merry Christmas!
I love your apartment! You have done wonders to it. Creating character, warmth and elegance and a lot of love in every corner. It's sad for me as the viewer but I'm also excited for you. I know how hard these decisions can be but family and your children are everything. We are all staying put for the ride and I can't wait to see the transformation!!

The NC house fits you ... layout, landscape and huggability.
Love when a home is "nice enough" to take all the time needed to just move in or change.
Nothing pressing except flooring ... better sooner rather than later. Easier.
After that when ever ... whatever ... or plan or budget or keep until something perfect comes to mind ... and the extra time.

I am moving back home to the Gulf Coast of Mississippi in the spring. I am currently looking for a home with acreage. I LOVE INTERIOR DESIGN and being unique with my creativity as well. You INSPIRE me in many ways. I save all of your posts and revisit them often.
I use Feng Shui in my decor and design. I am working towards becoming a master in the art of Feng Shui. Do you have any experience in that direction? If so I would love to hear your ideas!!!!!❤
Thank for your inspiration. It's hard to find a designer that incorporates what I feel in a space. Not identical but along the same imagination and how to bring it to life.
I am a widow but I have my fur babies. And will be opening a home within my acreage to rescue homeless animals. I will be designing their space as well.

How exciting, can’t wait to see the way you decorated, whoever rents your apartment is very lucky.
I just left NC for Indiana for a slower lifestyle.... which is so funny! NC was too expensive and chaotic for me. So it wasn't even just moving to a smaller town... the cost of living was too high for me in NC. And I was so scared I made the worst decision to leave my ''home'' in NC after 4 years... but now that I'm in Indiana... I just feel such a greater sense of peace. It's a smaller town, rent is literally cut in half. It's quieter. I can always drive to get to stores/shops on like a weekend trip...but I've already gone for a run, which I struggled to do in NC (the humidity was so high for me - i'm from the midwest). And people are already nicer. And I love the weather! It's super nice and cold! And it already snowed once!
That's so interesting but I agree that NC has gotten shockingly expensive. Especially since we left in February 2020... we sold our NC house back then at the wrongggg time. I'm so glad you found a greater sense of peace though and feel at home!
How exciting! We just recently moved from an apartment to a house. I know that feeling very well.
We also have a large dog that is loving the backyard and the big space. 🙂💜 I can't wait to see the transformation of your new house.

Literally just moved 2 weeks ago and used piece of cake as well. Although I miss the city, it’s true… moving from an apartment to a home is just incredible. The space, a yard, a driveway, the storage and the list goes on..We moved for the same reason. Congrats to your next chapter!

Good luck on your move! We had one kid in Chicago and loved it. Then we had a second kid and it was time to leave the city. I still miss walking everywhere and alllll the food options, but boy do I love our big yard!
