- Relive the Great American Race from 2003 that saw Dale Earnhardt Incorporated continue to flex their muscles at NASCAR's biggest race.
During the 2003 Daytona 500 some of NASCAR's biggest names found their way to the front. Names like Tony Stewart, Dale Earnhardt Jr., Jimmie Johnson and others led laps but in the end it was Michael Waltrip who was able to take home his second Daytona 500 victory.

Also this race is probably another one of the most underrated Daytona 500s ever. Wish it could’ve went the distance.
Agreed
Jr wouldve made it back to the front had the race gone to the end i rekon
The second half of this race would have been an amazing show as you would have had Michael Waltrip versus the Hendrick cars & Dale Jr trying to rally.
The rules package also provided very close racing.
Waltrip still wins
Underrated? This “race” was awful.
2:23:47 "Give him some Heroin" - Chris Meyers
Wonder what would prompt him to say that.
My first Nascar race. We sat on the backstretch. They are no longer there. We were snuggled up under a poncho waiting on the outcome. Great experience for me that I will never forget.
I am at work smiling from ear to ear... This is why I love NASCAR, the only sport to give it's fans what we want.... Thanks from a 35 year black fan from Alabama...
The very best sport and I have been a nascar fan for 25 years
Same
2:07:09 - Mike Joy, oh he got screeeeeew...
😂😂😂I was hoping somebody else caught that.
SPOILER
I am so glad Michael Waltrip got to win a second Daytona 500 after the 2001 heartbreak.
It really was a shame that the race did not go the full distance, and DW did not get to cheer his brother to the win like he did back in 2001 again.
Spoilers!!!
@@codybullard7836Sorry!
It was just meant to be for Michael Waltrip. He didn't get to celebrate his win in 2001, so he got a chance to really soak it in in 2003 (no pun intended) . That was Dale Sr's work right there. Had to be...
He really did earn it. I'm glad he could celebrate with Dale Jr in the 2001 Pepsi 400 too.
37:03 if you wanna see Newman's flip in crisp quality
What In Carnation? I thought they blocked you?
Zaku Zaku340 On Twitter they did LOL
@@nhinyasakano6493 why??lol
That’s why I came here for.

2005 Daytona 500 next Monday eh? I am beyond ready for this
First ever NASCAR race I watched. Memorable was an understatement.
Thank you Nascar for all these classic races... it´s awesome to see them in this great video quality... keep them coming please!
2007 Daytona 500 was my favorite 500 ever and a perfect definition for what NASCAR Races be like
NASCAR PLEASE KEEP UPLOADING THESE CLASSIC RACES I could watch these all day long
I'm a simple man, I see Michael Waltrip, I click
Michael Waltrip is a simple man too. He sees a wall, he hits it.
Very simple man
@@WhoopityDoo 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
This is probably the only Daytona 500 in the last 40 years that I have never seen. Power was out that day due to a severe ice storm. Thank you for uploading this race.
Went thru that same storm, trees and lines down everywhere. No power tor TV so we sat in my car listening on MRN 😂
Several things I remember about this race. I was sick with the flu, went to the Busch and Cup series races, 500 race shortened by rain, and about a two mile walk back to our vehicle, in the rain.
Michael Waltrip man. He wins his first race in 462 tries to win the Daytona 500, but at the same time loses his very good friend, the driver and owner who saw something in him to give him the chance. He never got to celebrate that win. He wins this race, still with DEI incorporated, but a shortened race, and never getting to celebrate with his car owner. I feel bad for him
I want the 2005 500
come back next Monday :)
Yesss😁
@@NASCAR How about 2004 500?
@@TheMrtgamer Probably sometime midweek this week

Love how The Simpson's also sponsored the race ticker starting at 32:44
Oh, Fox.
51:26 So how much does a 2.5 mile long/wide tarp really cost?
Thanks Nascar for upload another classic Daytona race.
This was a great day for Kentucky. Pole winner Jeff Green and winner Michael Waltrip were both of KY.
My Dad and uncle took me to the race as an early graduation present and i was on my way to boot camp that summer. The race ended early, but i had an absolute blast. Thanks for the upload!
Please keep uploading old races! Thank you Nascar!!!
Even though this race was shortened, there were still some pretty exciting moments.
Keep these classic races coming!
I loved this race! Great upload thanks! : D
I was 6 years old when I saw this race on tv. I was memorized as a young child and from there on out was a dedicated fan watching nascar from 2003-2010 ahh I miss the way those cars looked/drafted
OMG, I can't believe I love this prestige race. Pontiac and Dodge, nice !
Wish they could’ve finished this race. That same system dumped almost 2’ of snow here in NYC the next day
Jr. could’ve won this race if he didn’t have the battery problem. He ended up winning his first Daytona 500 the next year
Keep these coming please do all the races you have forever.
Man I love the sounds of the gen 4 cars on restricter plate tracks
look at those stands. packed. back when the only way to really see it in "HD" was if you saw it in real life
I hope they do this with the 2001 Daytona 500
That race was going to be one of the best races in all NASCAR history until the final corner. I think they should! That would be huge in the healing process of NASCAR post - Earnhardt Sr. They should put a disclaimer at the beginning of the video so newer fans are prepared for the final lap, however that’s truly up to NASCAR. Sucks that such a fantastic race was ruined by Earnhardt’s passing.
Remember this race is honoring the lost of the crew of Space Shuttle Columbia on STS-107
Edit: they did the same in the 1986 Daytona 500 but with space shuttle challenger

Last Daytona 500 to use The Pontiac's as manufacturers.
Nascar please keep bringing these old races, you're making a 23 year old feel 5 again!!! 😬😬😬😬
💯💯💯
2000's sure does bring lots of good old memories!!
So did anyone else notice the 20 laps missing before the Newman flip?
Yeah, Bobby Labonte's spin is missing.
I thought I was going crazy. You are absolutely correct.
The only Daytona 500 with a brazilian in the field
I was in attendance, it was a great short race. They stopped it twice but restarted and #15 won...
these cars are much prettier than nowadays cars.

Did U mean The Graphics??? LOL
Please add the 2012 Daytona 500, i watched that one live and thought the jetfire incedent was AWESOME
Newman got lucky twice at Daytona... and Dale Earnhardt got unlucky 20 times (19 years without a 500 win and then died 3 years after securing his victory). I guess we know where Dale's luck went.
Sterling was forced down there really.
What a great win for them... They really needed it.
I miss this kind of racing

I’ve always felt this was Juniors best Speedweeks. Had it not been for the battery issue and rain, who knows if he would’ve won, but even then he would’ve been a serious content to win. It’s just one of many what ifs in his career.
Also, I like how this includes the satellite feed as compared to other uploads of this race on RUclips. Although those ones include the Pre-Race. So I guess they’re even?
great race!! I wish I could see the next Daytona race in Germany on TV ... but it doesn't work
@John Haas thx, but it is'n old post i think. Since this year the nascar broadcasting on motorvision.tv is over.

miss those Gen 4 cars

Remember when NASCAR was so popular that big name celebrities would come to races and do the opening ceremonies? Just here there's Mariah Carey, Tony Hawk, and John Travolta. Now all it seems to be is corporate guys pushing their sponsorships.

Post the 1996 Diehard 500 please. Also the 2003 EA Sports 500 :)
3:29 That squeal, sounds like Mariah's being choked while singing that part.
Replay a modern day classics: 2018 Overton's 400 at Chicagoland. To those that hate that finish to the race I'm talking about, let me remind you: a driver who actually matters, who actually wins consistently, who they haters love talking about (because their driver either sucks, or hasn't been good in years), who is a 2 time champion (soon to be 3 time champion), once said, "If you don't like that kind of racing, don't even watch."
The race you are speaking of is on the nascar channel
Very nice
13:45 green flag!!
All this happened, yet the race never really got going
What a magic era the "Dale Jr can run whatever plate he wants" era was ;)
Forever 3, for believing in the Underdogs and long shorts ✝️
Need the ‘01 and ‘05 500 HD feeds immediately.
Yes.... I said ‘01.
No to 01 that was the worst
The intimidator was my favorite still miss him
RC RACER 88 Yeah I know he was your favorite you come on here bitching and harassing everyone about it everyday as if you’re a representative of the Earnhardt family. They do not know you. The 2001 Daytona 500 still was one of the greatest races the sport has ever had despite what happened. One bad lap does not change the other 199 laps.
@@D5RUclips you sick p.o.s why would you want to see the 01 500
RC RACER 88 Because it was a great race until the final lap. That’s why.
Rashimir Fieros Exactly but even that is not necessary. If they want to edit out the wreck that’s fine but Earnhardt’s wreck has been available in HD on RUclips and several documentaries for the longest.. so if anyone wanted to see that they could. Two everyone who witnessed his death live is grown and should understand the concept of death; dying is apart of life.. shit happens. The whole race in HD however is not available and should be. I hope they will release it.
Going to miss DW on commentary.
Bring back the fly cam!
Ryan Newman's crash in the 2020 Daytona 500 was even worst than the crash he had in this
I hope some day the cars will sound like this again I miss the whinny sounds they used to make .
This edition is so good that they cut the first yellow flag of the race !!!
