The pianist does not deserve the rude and mannerless comments posted here. “Lee met and conquered the score” [Los Angeles Times] Lee Yoon Soo (a.k.a. PiaYoon) is a Korean-born, Argentine-raised, naturalized American pianist who rose to international fame as a teenager when he won the 1997 Ferruccio Busoni International Piano Competition in Bolzano, Italy. Swiss composer and music administrator Rolf Liebermann, who presided over the eminent jury, also presented the Audience Prize, the Yamaha Prize, and the Rotaract Prize for being the youngest prize winner. Laureate of the first Martha Argerich International Piano Competition in Buenos Aires, he is in demand for solo, chamber music, and orchestral appearances throughout the United States, Europe, Asia, and South America (Carnegie Hall, Walt Disney Concert Hall, Hollywood Bowl, Staatsoper Hamburg, Alte Oper, Radio France Paris, Teatro Colón).
-Land is a ship too big for me. It's a woman too beautiful. It's a voyage too long. Perfume too strong. It's music I don't know how to make. I can't get off this ship. At best, I can step off my life. The story of a man who knows his limits... it touch me every time. From Italy
As a pianist who's played this piece and done a lot of accompanying I must say that this pianist does a wonderful, sensitive and balanced interpretation of the piece. And he does so throughout the performance. I grant he looks off hand, but he's just played Rachmaninoff's Piano-Cello Sonata on this program! This is an encore. Critics are confusing sensitive playing with "looking sensitive." Not everyone wants to be Lang Lang. Close your eyes and listen!
Joon-Ho Shim, Yoon- Soo Lee ! Siedzicie sobie, gracie jakby od niechcenia, jakby nie zdając sobie sprawy jacy jesteście w tej swojej skromności wielcy. Wielu "cieniasów" z list przebojów może się od was uczyć. BRAWO!
it's actually supposed to be emotionless at the beginning, because in the movie, the pianist didn't care about the piece, it's only when a girl appears in front of him that he starts playing with emotion, check the movie out, it's called ''the legend of1900''
Sal Majak I've watched the movie countless times. but i felt that this pianist rushed through the beginning and missed the delicacy of this song. if you watch the scene, 1900 actually plays much slower and allows the beginning to flesh out more, which i think this cover missed.
Miranda Engholm you shut up. i said my opinion, if you don't like it then say yours with respect but don't tell me to shut up. i didn't offend you so piss off
Then you're following the right artist, it's Morricone. I'd suggest "Childhood and manhood" from "Cinema Paradiso" and another one is "Salut d`Amour" (Edward Elgar)
Very nice, but the cadenza opening (piano) felt a bit rushed. No pauses where there should be and felt like the keys were choking. Would've been nice if they kept to the original tempo. Still, that's only 20 seconds of an amazing rest of the 4 minute performance! I truly enjoyed the cello-piano pairing.
I still can't emphasise enough of how terrible that pianist is...He has no expression through his playing at the start. I hate it with a great passion.
I don't think so. 1900 plays that part because he was not sure what to play, it was meaningless, just like his own life that he wasn't sure who he was and who was he supposed to be, until he looked through the window, and a meaningful moment of his life and his music began. I would call it "over-emphasized", but still a valid interpretation.
I think that pianist plays the piano too fast, he should go on to youtube and type "Legend of 1900, playing love" and listen to how it's supposed to be played.
+Halloween Christmas the original song give me lots of thought but this song is just fast and i cant feel anything i this song . this is good example to explain that if you play it fast , it is not good to hear . sorry my opinion is so long and boring~
+youngei shin Actually it's quite optimistic and very robust. People have argued with me over this, but you are the only person who understands me. Your opinion means a bunch to me! :)
+Halloween Christmas I thought there was alot of feeling in his playing! You couldn't see it, but it was there. This music is hard to emulate following the emotion and scene that begat this piece.
Halloween Christmas What you meant is far different to what you wrote! Besides his tempo is spot on, but his touch and skill is lacking just a bit probably due to laziness. Which in turn affects his sound. I don't totally agree, but I know what you mean.

Ennio Morricone will be listened to in 300 years, in the same way we listen to Bach, Mozart and Beethoven today.
Rest in peace Ennio Morricone
Agree

May I have your authorized to put your music(Playing Love) in my school-made video which will on Taiwanese local TV on Dec. ?
It's an 18minutes non-profit documentrary film which I can give you a copy.
Thank you very much !
The pianist plays with so much skill in the beginning but the lack of emotion just :(
it's actually supposed to be emotionless at the beginning, because in the movie, the pianist didn't care about the piece, it's only when a girl appears in front of him that he starts playing with emotion, check the movie out, it's called ''the legend of1900''

+Sal Majak SHUT UP
Miranda Engholm you shut up. i said my opinion, if you don't like it then say yours with respect but don't tell me to shut up. i didn't offend you so piss off
Yes you're right
can anyone suggest me other songs like this? sad but feels good.. if you know what I mean :D
Then you're following the right artist, it's Morricone. I'd suggest "Childhood and manhood" from "Cinema Paradiso" and another one is "Salut d`Amour" (Edward Elgar)
심준호님이신가...?
네 맞습니다
The chair makes the cellist look like he is slouching.
how can you hate somebody that you maybe didn't even see? :P
Very nice sound and balance, but little speed , and without mood....! ....more rubato !!!
the melody is modified.
why?
Esta muy rapido....
the music became more meanignful because of 1900
Very nice, but the cadenza opening (piano) felt a bit rushed. No pauses where there should be and felt like the keys were choking. Would've been nice if they kept to the original tempo. Still, that's only 20 seconds of an amazing rest of the 4 minute performance! I truly enjoyed the cello-piano pairing.
The pianist was a bit to fast but overall great job
a bit fast
Solamente Morricone y Yo Yo Ma, podrían hacerlo mejor (o no?)
The start was just rushed.
Ma com'è che sti cinesi sono bravi a far tutto?
molto bravi, ma troppo veloce il pianista!!
I still can't emphasise enough of how terrible that pianist is...He has no expression through his playing at the start. I hate it with a great passion.
Ya I didn't like his intro much either.
He's a good pianist, its just called interpretation! You're just butt hurt because he didn't playing it like it sounded in the movie lol
I don't think so. 1900 plays that part because he was not sure what to play, it was meaningless, just like his own life that he wasn't sure who he was and who was he supposed to be, until he looked through the window, and a meaningful moment of his life and his music began. LOL, wtf is the intro
I think that pianist plays the piano too fast, he should go on to youtube and type "Legend of 1900, playing love" and listen to how it's supposed to be played.
i agree with you.
+youngei shin Thank you!
+Halloween Christmas the original song give me lots of thought but this song is just fast and i cant feel anything i this song . this is good example to explain that if you play it fast , it is not good to hear . sorry my opinion is so long and boring~
but i didnt say that this is not good .
+youngei shin Actually it's quite optimistic and very robust. People have argued with me over this, but you are the only person who understands me. Your opinion means a bunch to me! :)
lol
just a big error
+scomposizioni Your birth?
The pianist is why I dislike this very much, he has no expression through out his playing - Only the cellist has expressed his ways with it.
you say that again
+youngei shin I was just stating that it was the pianist I disliked and the cellist I did.
+Halloween Christmas I thought there was alot of feeling in his playing! You couldn't see it, but it was there. This music is hard to emulate following the emotion and scene that begat this piece.
+sirswift23 What I mean is that he is rushing it at the start which effects it throughout the piece.
Halloween Christmas
