When I was in high school (graduated in 1983), my “go-to” look was my favorite jeans, a pair of white Nikes, a blazer, and a blouse or button-down (often stolen from my mom’s work wardrobe!). At the time, it wasn't typical. Most of the other students wore novelty tees and jeans or were head-to-toe “casual preppy” (polos, khakis, and penny loafers). A friend of mine typically wore a hoodie, her favorite jeans, Doc Marten style boots, and a blazer. Funny how all of those looks are now classics, at some level.
I’m 71 years young and remember white plimsoles (tennis shoes) were very much worn when I was young, still on trend, trainers now... all that you say is very true 😊. enjoy your videos thank you. 🌺🌟🍒 from NZ
I always enjoy your videos Gemma! I'm in my 30's and I feel so happy to have found a channel that actually speaks to my style. Thanks so much for the time and work u invest in your channel. I like that you include images, they are extremely helpful! Greetings from NewZealand.
So glad you mentioned watches. Noone ever seems to wear a watch any more & those that do wear a big chunky digitals. Nothing like a rose gold watch with your white shirt & jeans. Especially your little black dress.
Great video! I agree with all of your advice. I’d add one thing: better to save for fewer, quality classic items than buying lots of inexpensive things. Get the best you can afford on your budget, as the classic items ( as in Burberry trench) will last forever. We don’t need lots of things jammed into our closets. We really only need a handful of classic items. Cheers! 😎
Gemma you’re still the best !! Classic is always the way to go regardless one’s age. Thank you Gemma. Have a blessed day! 🌹 ( you just seem to remind us( viewers) what we can use and have in our wardrobes/ closets. Lovely channel.
I think I have it all, LOVE the classic look, I just wants to switch out the white sneakers, my trench and also the black heels to better ones :) Thank you Gemma for your videos, I love them!
I have tended to buy complete outfits from one maker: Jacket, top, pants and/or skirt. You make various pieces work together-even when they are different brands. You’re giving me confidence to break my old trend. And I think I’ll even save money! 😉
Hello Gemma! Another great video on the classics! Love all the looks and you look so sharp in them!! I pretty much have all of these pieces but need a pair of nude pumps with no too high a heel. I wish I was more in tune with all of this years ago! Better late than never I guess!!
I have nearly all the classic pieces, bar the tennis bracelet and trench coat. You show how pieces should be worn and how to elevate the outfits beautifully. Also the mixing of high end pieces and high street shows you can look well if you do it properly. Thank you great advice as usual.
I love the way you put outfits together, I've picked up lot's of tips, I still like to look good when I can, trouble is I feel the cold so in winter I look like the Michelin man.( But I am 70& still a size 10) really.x
I absolutely love your channel. I’m in my 40s and though I love to watch what trends are popular I don’t necessarily gravitate towards them. I much appreciate more classic looks and a more polished look
Fortunately I have and love all of these items. I've also got a few blazers which I've had forever. Good quality classics last forever. Great video. Thank you.
Thank you Grmma, it’s nice to be reminded from time to time what classic dressing is, I am loving classic pieces and I have a few of each items, especially the stripe top and white bottom up shirt, i can never have enough of it. ♥️♥️
I have all those lovely pieces and always feel put together now. Thanks to your videos I now have a wardrobe I love and is timeless! Keep sharing these lovely videos with us.
I am 57 years & love blazers. Growing up in Paris blazers were part of every women’s capsule. My favorite designer is Ralph Lauren I like the sporty chic design. Striped top of course combined with a pair of jeans bootcut or straight. And my next purchase is going to be a Burberry Mac 🙏❤️
Love, love, love these videos Gemma thank you for your content and style tips. I have most of these pieces now….but have come to the conclusion that the reason I still don’t feel good in them is because I’m not slim 😖
Love your hair in this video Gemma, did you change the colour or have it cut? And thanks for the tips. How have I managed to live nearly 50 years on this planet without realising it's all about the right classical salad dressing?!
I've been binging your videos recently and found them all so helpful. I didn't grow up with sisters or a mom that knew much about dressing and grooming. As I'm approaching my 30s in a few months, I've decided it's time to update my look and dress with more class. Your videos have been invaluable. Thank you!
Great choices - I have everything except the trenchcoat (and that's only because it's not something I would have much use for in my lifestyle and climate). Thank you.
Another great video, thanks. I hate the oversized blazers, too, and I can’t wait for this trend to pass. Meanwhile, I’m just not buying any. It’s also so hard to find any quality blazers at all, everything is polyester, even in high high-street brands. I think I have all these classic items and agree with your list. I wore my classic pearl studs yesterday and lost one of the 14K earring backs. They make them so tiny now, because of the high cost of gold, that it’s nearly impossible to get them on right, but at least the stud was still in when I discovered the loss.
I love your videos. I have two white tops, two stripe tops, and a purple trench coat. My trench coat I have had for awhile. It has shoulder pads. I will have to add some of these items to my collection. Thank you for sharing! I enjoyed this video. Love and Light.❤️❤️☮️☮️🙏🙏
Yay, I already have all of these! I'd add to this list a black brimmed hat and sunglasses for sun protection and black 16-hole Doc Martins just because I find them so versatile for my long commute (they work in all weather and look dressier under trousers than many other comfy shoes like running shoes).
Thanks for the video, Gemma. I've most of the pieces except the camel coat, white shirt and striped top, as my torso is 2 sizes bigger than my hips. So every piece that "lightens up" my torso or makes it look bigger, is no go. My white shirt is navy and my camel coats are dark. PS: love your channel.
I love my black silk knit dress from Lily Silk, it’s incredibly versatile. It does have 3/4-length sleeves, though, which I hate. I would much rather have long sleeves, then just push them up when I get warm. The 3/4-length just doesn’t work for cool weather, my forearms will always be cold in them, especially with the AC on, which many places have here in California. At home, I can wear arm warmers, but they ruin the look if I leave the house in them. I also have their black woven silk shirt dress, it’s pretty versatile, too, but it looks more dressy. I love my “stealth silk”, i.e., silk in matte finishes or knits, they look more casual and no one knows that I’m wearing silk, which I only do for comfort, not to impress anyone - I just need soft fibers and fabrics, but can’t wear polyester. I get so tired of those sarcastic remarks like “oh, our rich lady here, is wearing silk again!”, or even once “what do you do, burn $100 bills when you get bored?”. No, actually, I read or go for a walk. I’m not rich, I just have skin allergies, so I might have 6 silk tops to their 40 polyester ones, for the same budget. Quality over quantity is always my choice, my Mom taught me that and my touchy skin gives me constant reminders.
You may have already done a travel wardrobe video but perhaps you would consider a refresh if you have? One for every season? New to your channel. Love it!
I've recently discovered I'm a dramatic classic in the Kibbe body archetypes. So anyone can wear a trench buy the silhouettes are each specific to types for best dressing. Is this wardrobe best for soft classic or dramatic classic?....I'm still learning. You seem like a more soft classic type if I folllow properly. Love your emphasis on classics! ty
Gemma, spot on, as usual. I have every piece you mentioned in your video with the exception of the camel coat which is too close to my natural skin tone. I feel like a chameleon when I wear it. 😒 The Breton top is a go to for me and I have many of them from traditional boat neck to turtlemeck. I also have it in a variety colours. One that I discovered I like a lot is a red Breton stripe. Thanks for inspiring us to be and look our best. It is never more needed than these past few years of intermittent lock downs, confinements and working from home. Bisous
I’ve never liked white shirts or beige trench coats even though I have them. I wear white tee shirts and coloured blouses and coloured trench coats. I’ve got striped tee shirts and jumpers but don’t wear them often. I think I like bright colours.
there was some nice pieces there , but i have trouble wearing nice tops as i'm chubby round my middle since having hysterectomy , & not many shops cater for the plump women over here in uk these days .
I think you just haven’t found the right tops, Lori. You may need a different “silhouette” that works with your tummy. I do hope you try other brands and some cuts different from what you are used to wearing.
I agree with what you say, I enjoy your programmes a lot, except about trench coats, They don’t suit all body shapes. I have other classic smart coats, and everything else on your list (oh not the tennis bracelet either) I have a classic gold curb bracelet I prefer.

Could you possibly do a morning and an evening routine video for us as to what an elgant lady does for a routine?
Love that idea ♥️
I love it too! 👍
Great idea 🌺
Thank you for this video. I love classical style wardrobe. 😊
Gemma you’re still the best !! Classic is always the way to go regardless one’s age. Thank you Gemma. Have a blessed day! 🌹 ( you just seem to remind us( viewers) what we can use and have in our wardrobes/ closets. Lovely channel.
Thanks Annette ♥️
I think I have it all, LOVE the classic look, I just wants to switch out the white sneakers, my trench and also the black heels to better ones :) Thank you Gemma for your videos, I love them!
Peacoats are staple classic in my wardrobe . They work effortlessly with all the classics pieces you show here .
I love these, too, I have a navy and a burgundy one.
"Classic Salad Dressing".......good one! Haha!
😂
Great to start the video with a touch of humour! 😆
Wow, loved the watch/no-watch comparison! Crazy how big of a difference it makes!

I'm the same as you, I like to see the trends but always revert back to the classics
Fortunately I have and love all of these items. I've also got a few blazers which I've had forever. Good quality classics last forever. Great video. Thank you.

I have all those lovely pieces and always feel put together now. Thanks to your videos I now have a wardrobe I love and is timeless! Keep sharing these lovely videos with us.
And this came in perfect time I am decluttering my closet as we speak ♡
This is great. It is a comprehensive explanation of elements of classic dressing. Loved it. Thanks Gemma
Glad you liked it Valerie 🌷
❤️❤️❤️I have all these classic pieces and enjoy them on regular basis. Great video! 😁👌🏻

Well you look attractive from your pic, you could wear anything be bold.
Great stuff. I have a charcoal grey coat and my LBD is an LND (navy); otherwise I’m with you!
Thank you so much for your amazing videos, I have learnt so... much, love love love your style, so appropriate for our age group ❤ 🇦🇺
She is on it ✅
Love your hair in this video Gemma, did you change the colour or have it cut?
And thanks for the tips. How have I managed to live nearly 50 years on this planet without realising it's all about the right classical salad dressing?!
And the red blouse. Gorgeous!!

Dear Gemma, sooo good to see you again 😃
Your vids are as nicely put together as the outfits you present.
I have just about have everything but I really loved the watch you’re wearing!

I don’t have a tennis bracelet, it would have to be fake! But here in ultra-casual California diamonds aren’t worn really, certainly not for day.
Love your classy outfit ideas 💡, me too is a classy outfit enthusiast and a bit edgy🤩
Thank you!!!
Thank you for another great video. You look amazing in red. It really goes well with and brings out your hair tone.
Thanks so much

Yes, sunglasses! And a scarf.

I've got all the required pieces in my wardrobe and yet - I don't look as chic as you do. Thank you for your styling tips, love your videos.

I have every piece you mentioned, however, I plan to buy a short version raincoat.
Thank you Gemma for your expert opinions. 👍😁
Thanks for sharing 😊
Classy outfit never obsession!
Love your emphasis on classics! ty
Hi Gemma! I just wanted to say that you look amazing in red... Thanks for your ideas, I really enjoy your videos.
Oh thank you! 😊
Wow love classic pieces and the ideas thank you.
Excellent video❤I own all , but need the trenchcoat❤🤗
Gemma, spot on, as usual. I have every piece you mentioned in your video with the exception of the camel coat which is too close to my natural skin tone. I have everything but the camel coat. I do have a corduroy blazer. My trench is a thigh length black.
In part, thanks to watching your vids, I have about 3/4s of this list. (Some I had on my own before finding you).
Love it
(Melanie here) Love your videos. This is a great one. What do suggest for those of us in the US for trench coat or trainers? Thank you.
Wonderful video i really enjoyed it one of your best going to save thank you
Thank you❤❤❤
Great stuff 🙏🏾🥺... I Love It 🥰🥰💋
I’ve never liked white shirts or beige trench coats even though I have them. I wear white tee shirts and coloured blouses and coloured trench coats. I’ve got striped tee shirts and jumpers but don’t wear them often. I think I like bright colours.
Excellent 🌹
I love the single breasted blazers because they're easier to wear. And I love my Breton top because it's a versatile piece that can wear every season
I always love all ur videos.thanks.
My pleasure 😊
Thanks for your video Gemma %! Love it 😀
Glad you enjoyed it!
A bracelet would work just the same as a watch
Siempre consigues darme ideas nuevas con mucha clase y estilo.espero con ilusión tu nuevo vídeo cada semana. No cambies nunca
Muchas gracias por tus amables palabras
I might have missed it but a good classic bag in black is a must.
You got a like for this video just for the joke in the beginning 😂 but really, love your content! Learning so much!
😂😀 I appreciate the like and you watching
Gemma, you look stunning in red 😍 ❤️
💕 thank you Candice
Lovely video
I have a pair of camel/ beige chinos that I consider also a classic
Loafers or flat shoes can be a classic
I agree with you but I could only a few in this video 😊
Very nice
there was some nice pieces there , but i have trouble wearing nice tops as i'm chubby round my middle since having hysterectomy , & not many shops cater for the plump women over here in uk these days .
I think you just haven’t found the right tops, Lori. You may need a different “silhouette” that works with your tummy. I do hope you try other brands and some cuts different from what you are used to wearing.
Red suits you 👌🏾❤️
What do you think about navy +black? Are there times this color combination works?
I didn't use to like it but it does work. I really like a navy shirt / blouse with black bottoms
Red is your color Gemma :)
So elegant 😃🤚🇲🇫
I agree with what you say, I enjoy your programmes a lot, except about trench coats, They don’t suit all body shapes. I have other classic smart coats, and everything else on your list (oh not the tennis bracelet either) I have a classic gold curb bracelet I prefer.
Love
I love my sneakers.
❤❤❤
I dislike over-sized blazers because they're not flattering.
Is anyone else taking notes? I’ve screenshot every item to see what I got or need to get.
