Aha! A consistently good cup of coffee, what a goal! Watching this really got my taste buds going..haha seriously. Oh boy, i could see an accident waiting to happen if i were to follow Aeropress instructions. I don't know where im going from here, but....THANK YOU! Thank you for showing your way of brewing. We coffee snobs have our own preferences. I have a grain mill on my Vitamix only for coffee beans and a stainless no filter pour over. Dark roast only for me 😉
Nice show! I have two layers of stainless steel screen material in lieu of the paper filters. I have found that this produces a sort of crema like an espresso shot therefore increasing flavor profile and eliminating the paper filters.
For special occasions I bring out my mocha pot. I found a ceramic Hario pour over at a thrift store for a ridiculously cheap price…it was still in the box! That is now my daily cuppa.
I have an aero press and appreciate your tips! It does make a really good cup of coffee. I might have to start grinding my beans per your recommendation.

If I were to a “French Press” type method I guess I’d be interested an Arrow Press, but I have settled on plain old fashioned “pour over” on good coffee grounds in a #2 paper filter into my mug. The only variation is using an OXO reservoir over a cone so I can put all the hot water in reservoir tank at once to let it slowly drip through the coffee. That frees me up to get out the cream. I think the most important thing is selecting a good coffee bean you enjoy, and you’ve shared about that on your other videos. When I travel I like to try out different coffees at a roaster because they often have several different kinds available to pour. Then get a bag for the rest of my trip. At home, making my pour over is my version of the Japanese tea ceremony. ☕️☕️☕️
Wow....my eyes watered when I looked up the price of your coffee grinder Scott. Good for you when you really want something like that, everyone deserves to have what they really hang out for. I absolutely love my Aeropress.....it makes coffee thats memorable. 👍🇦🇺
Seeing another video posted this week gave me a smile. I enjoyed your coffee brewing technique. I am still using my Hario grinder but after seeing your video on the Staresso a few months ago, I decided that will be my birthday present to myself this year. Can't wait.
P.S. I was at Walmart recently and saw mini bottles of hot sauce on sale for .25 cents. They had the Yellowbird, so now I can try it without having to buy a large bottle!✌
Thank you so much for this link on how to use the Aeropress, I think it’s so nice of you to reply to your viewers considering the amount of time it takes to view so many comments. I have saved this video and will follow your directions in the morning. I sure like your way better. Thanks!
I love my aeropress. I have a nice hand grinder too. One thing you might want to try is cold brew. Do the inverted method you use but add cold water then set it aside in the fridge to brew. Overnight if you can. You need to really trust that the seal is 100% water tight! Then press as usual in the morning. It makes a superb morning coffee, very different to any hot brewing technique. This method suits a light to medium roast. Another way to do cold brew in a camping situation is to add your coffee and water to a ziplock freezer bag and leave that in the fridge. Then filter through a poor over. That's a lot more messy than the aeropress though and creates more waste/trash.
It's the bean, the soil where the beans are grown that matters. That's why I like beans from Papua, Guatemala, Ethiopia, Kenya, and Sumatra. It's the soil, followed by filtered water. The rest is easy. I like to pour hot water through a coffee filter and drip it. My mom had a percolator in the 1950s. I worked at the Holiday Inn as a waitress in the 1970s. I learned we throw out the coffee after one hour because the oils from the coffee separate from the coffee and float on the surface, creating bitterness. Toss it off. Usually most people drink their coffee right away when it is quickly brewed.
You’re welcome. You might want to do a quick google search as I’ve found Amazon is usually more expensive than other stores. I bought this Aeropress at Walmart because it was much cheaper than anywhere else

I had purchased an Aero Press a few months ago but no, I haven't used it yet. The main reason is looked too difficult in the morning and so I use a French press. But not tomorrow morning, I will have some excellent coffee. Thank you for all the tips also. It is certainly appreciated Mike
Hey Scott hope all is well with you. I've watched some of your videos why back in the past and just subscribe to the channel. I've had my Aeropress just short of a week and have used a lot of your pointers on brewing times and blends I've found for me on the light blend that a 4 minute brew time is perfect with the current coffee I'm enjoying. I have yet to try grinding my own beans but can't wait to give it a go. Thank you so much for taking the time to make this video its been more than helpful.
You are so clever! I'm so glad you made this video! I had noticed how you were using your aeropress and didn't fully understand why. It makes total sense now. Excellent! I'm going to have to, at least, supplement my pour over system. I don't own my own, yet! And I love that you reuse the filters! It all adds up. Oh! I tried to find that coffee company in Arcata that you spoke of, the name slips my mind. I didn't find it and they were closing soon. I'll try again, if I remember the name 😂
I’ve the same setup,,, except I use the weighing scales function on your ‘timer’… I use the aeropress app on my iPhone to tell me when to pour and stir etc for the perfect consistent cup…
In my household growing up we would just put the coffee in a pot with water until it boiled and let it simmer for a few and then use a reusable filter bag... I've yet to grind my own coffee beans but sounds like it would taste stronger than pre-ground... we just use Bustelo
Noooo! I thought you were still in Fort Bragg; I’m in Santa Rosa with a van I bought 3 years ago and I haven’t taken a single trip. 🙄🥺 I’m going to check out how you even landed near me for a little bit. For coffee I’m sacrilegious. I get cold brew and heat it up. For me it tastes great - but I’m not attempting an aficionado, I just want more chocolatey and less acid. You get an A++++++ for effort! 🎉
No, I haven’t been in Fort Bragg since last Fall. I spent the winter in Santa Rosa. The best cup of coffee is the coffee you like the taste of. I need to try another cold brew as I haven’t found one that I like yet.
The best coffee that I’ve enjoyed so far is All Good Co, it’s roasted in small batches in Astoria, Oregon. It is 100% Colombian and they use the fermented method, their bean type is Castillo. Since I’ve used up that bag I’ve tried several different grounds from different companies and still feel this one tastes the best. Since this ground is $18 for only 12 oz I’ve come to realize if I’m really going to enjoy my coffee I could have had a handful more bags or so trying to find a cheaper brand. For me personally it’s the tastiest. Mine is dark roast but they do make lighter roasts as well.
Great advice. Brewing coffee is like a ceremony or ritual if you will. I would say that using purified water is crucial also. If you did mention it and I missed it sorry. I will be buying one of those units to add to my collection. Also very curious to try a coffee siphin. 💛
Thank you my friend for the Aropress coffee ☕️ making video thinking of buying one love your attitude and honest opinion looking for Yellow Bird 🦜 hot sauce today at Walmart I’m on a mission to find it 🙏💯☕️🇺🇸☕️
You have Bluestone Lane which is owned by an Australian in the US. I suggest if you get the chance pay them a visit and try the best. I have no affiliation but they are quite well known in your country. We also have world champion baristas and we take our coffee culture very seriously.
Super helpful, Scott. Thank you. I typically use a 3 cup Chemex but have an Aeropress just in case. I haven't used it much because of user error. This certainly enlightened me on how best to use the brewer.
@StaticCamperVan I worry about that too, but no problems so far. Likely won't replace it when if it does break. I also have backups to my backups. Grinders, brewers, hot water. Loving coffee is a serious business!
Yes, I’d like to try a stainless filter for the novelty. But I only like paper filtered coffee. As well as the fact that washing the stainless screens is a no go as I need to limit my water usage.
Thank you so much for this demonstration. Based on your previous AeroPress use, I bought one at Walmart and have been trying to figure out the best way to use it. AeroPress should hire you! I also bought a little coffee grinder a while back similar to what you use. How do you determine how many beans to grind for 1 cup of coffee? Maybe that's where the scoop that came with the AeroPress would help me in measuring out whole beans?
After reading some recipes and some trial and error, I decided that I like 15 to 18 grams of ground coffee per 10oz of water. Measuring coffee by the beans is nearly impossible without weighing them on a scale
I like the inverted Aeropress method too. Have you thought about using a stainless steel filter instead of paper? Less mess, you don't have to source new papers and the theory is that it doesn't tend to filter out the important oils that come out of the coffee. Thanks for the video.
I’m curious to try the stainless filter but it wouldn’t be something that I would use. I have limited water and the extra washing would be an issue. I also prefer paper filtered coffee. I’ve only used two boxes of filters in the four years of having an Aeropress
@@StaticCamperVan Fair enough. We all have our little ways of doing things that are expedient to our lives. Go well and I hope you have a pleasant winter.
Scott - Happy Saturday !! Have you ever experimented with the AeroPress titanium screens? I used Aeropress for years, starting from their beginning. But I have only a fraction of your experience with light-roast. May I share to you that I began to seek a brew procedure that helps me optimize extraction that will give me the prospect of including a coffee berry's favorable essential oils (but obviously not to the point of getting bitters). IDK, maybe you don't even care for the oils flavor? maybe that is among reasons you prefer light roast? But for weeks I experimented with extraction through the metal, rather than paper, because I believed fresh clean paper may be trapping (stealing) some of my desired oils flavor. I like you posting about coffee. You're a Kitchen Lab Scientist on a mission to get what you like and willing to explore - you'd be sorry you got me started. It's quite personal, but not to intimate LoL
The metal filters aren’t good for me because they require rinsing. And I have to keep my water usage down. Some oils do get through the paper filters. That’s why some people double up on the filters. I prefer the flavor of filtered coffee.
Have you ever used a Moka Pot? French Press? Your press has a filter so you won't have grounds in your brew. Was at Costco yesterday and noticed they were selling Fidalgo breakfast blend light roast, 2# bag. I prefer their French dark roast but I know you like light roast. Also, side note, picked up a pack of country style pork ribs which are relaxing in the crock pot relaxing for a few hours, then out to the bbq to finish the job.😊
I tried using the Aeropress like you do, but I'm pretty clutzy and it was a bit top heavy and tippy and.....well, let's just say I had to redo my coffee and I'm glad I wasn't living in a van at the time. 😅 I always get my light roast in bulk at the Natural Food Store- just a little at a time to try different ones. I always hand grind too, but guess what?! My grinds catcher was glass and.....well, I have a new grinder on order! No glass this time.😂
Haha, after knocking the Aeropress over using it per the instructions, I decided to switch to this method. Whatever works right? Oh, I’m sorry to hear about your grinder. That was the reason why I wanted an all metal grinder. I knew it would take a tumble eventually. And it has. Several times.
Thanks for posting this. I need to try a 4 minute brew when I make my next cup tomorrow morning. I typically do 1 minute but otherwise, I do the same inversion technique. You also press much faster than I do. I hear pressing fast leads to "channeling" which results in more bitter coffee. Have you had this experience and if so, how much faster than what you were doing is too fast? Is there a difference in speed for you between when you are pushing water through and the end when you're pushing mostly air through? I think I use about half the grounds and half the water you do for a single serve portion. So my air pushing phase is likely longer than yours. Finally, I like to press firmly at the end to squeeze out the grounds into the cup. I think I get more flavor that way. Do you do that and if not, why do you avoid it? You sort of talked about it in the video but I wasn't sure I understood correctly since you were talking more about the cleanup process. Great video. I think it's fun to geek out about brewing techniques. Some day I'll get a scale.
I’ve not noticed any difference in taste using a faster plunge. I don’t think there’s any issues with channeling as long as the coffee and water get stirred together well. All the brewing is being done in the four and a half minutes. After that, the coffee is simply being pushed through the filter. The only time I don’t give a very firm press at the end is if I mistakenly brew past four and a half minutes. In that case, I’ll do a lighter press so as to not push the bitter oils through the filter.
That makes a lot of sense. The people who were talking about the channeling also didn't do the full stir, but I stir like you. Ok, next time, 4 minutes. Then the next next time, faster plunge, then I'll combine them if all goes well. Thank you!
@@StaticCamperVan a strainer does work but I like my tea strong and sometimes I like to make more than just one cup st a time. I am a school bus driver and I am in my rig for 13.5 hours a day so even though my van isn’t converted yet, I still enjoy a lot of the vanlife and compact gadgets during my work day.
Just switched to stanley pour over kit.................no need for filters.................only two pieces including stainless stell mug they provide like becuse it is more stable than aeropress
I decided to get up and make some since he popped up on my notifications saying how to make the best coffee lol... I'm about to have some now too... enjoy yours and have a great day
I use a French press... The only drawback for you is that it is glass... There is a concern with cold weather and pouring hot water into it.. however.. I've been trying to figure out a way to email you... I don't know if you're still in the Northern California area.. I am going to be frequenting The Bodega Bay area starting in November... And I do have a coffee that I would like you to try.. The reason I choose to share it with you is because I never did light roast coffee until I heard you talk about it.. I now do an ultra light roast in the press.. It is so smooth and I love it... Let me know if you're going to be in the Northern California area in this next coming month
Great to hear you are enjoying light roast coffee. I don’t know where I’ll be this winter. I hope to stay here in Northern California but I only plan a day or two ahead
Water temperature is very important. Every roast level requires a different temperature. Because I always drink light roast, I use water directly off the boil. The lighter the roast, the hotter the water for the best flavor
I don’t know if you are aware of this or not, but Amazon sells a metal filter for the aeropress and they are reusable, however being a metal screen the natural oils do pass though, some like that some don’t. Just passing along…
Yes, Aeropress actually produces a metal filter as well. Some of the generic metal filters don’t fit well. I actually prefer paper filtered coffee. Which is why I like the Aeropress. Otherwise I would probably use a French Press as it brews a similar style of coffee.
This is good to know. I think my pour over paper filter coffees taste better than my expresso machine with the metal filter so I understand where you’re coming from. I think a metal screen is a good back up in case one runs out of paper filters. I was impressed with how you can re-use your paper ones and for that reason I’m keeping that point in mind and will give it a try myself. I think I will buy a metal filter for back up, where I am it’s hard to find paper ones for the aeropress, the World Market carry’s some sometimesnotherwise I’d need to order more online so for me anyway a metal screen would be a good back up. I appreciate your coffee lessons. After seeing your grinder I goggled some and am considering investing in a lifetime well made one on grinder with all metal parts, I am amazed how quickly they hand grind and all so perfect. I’m sold.
Hey Scott.. Iam gonna give myself a Aeropress, now I have seen you making coffee many times with it😂.. Normally I only drink darkroasted beans, but now iam gonna buy som light roasted beans.. Perhaps you made me a believer in light roasted coffee 😂😂.. Mvh Jens
I actually do like French Press coffee. The only thing that I don’t like is the coffee grounds that get through the press screen. That’s why I like this Aeropress technique. It makes the same immersion brew that a French Press does but with a cleaner final cup
Sadly I think my taste buds are toast when it comes to coffee. I have been drinking it black, so strong the spoon almost stands in it, for so long that when I even add a splash of milk it makes the coffee sickly sweet, much less adding an actual sweetener. Some of the fine, highly rated coffee shops in the area taste like 'ashtray water' to me. It is a shame that coffee has become so utilitarian in my life.

Awesome tips, Static Camper Van Man! Where are you off to next on your joinery or have you been recently?! Gorgeous right now in the PNW! Be well!! ❤️
Thanks. I’ve been mostly static the last couple of weeks.
SO mysterious! 😎

@phoenixrising1305 not really. I’m always Static
Thank you my friend for the Aropress coffee ☕️ making video thinking of buying one love your attitude and honest opinion looking for Yellow Bird 🦜 hot sauce today at Walmart I’m on a mission to find it 🙏💯☕️🇺🇸☕️
You’re welcome Thomas. Kroger stores carry Yellowbird, too. If your local Walmart doesn’t.
You have Bluestone Lane which is owned by an Australian in the US. I suggest if you get the chance pay them a visit and try the best. I have no affiliation but they are quite well known in your country. We also have world champion baristas and we take our coffee culture very seriously.
Looks like the closest location is a far drive south from me. I’ll check them out next time I’m near SF.
Super helpful, Scott. Thank you. I typically use a 3 cup Chemex but have an Aeropress just in case. I haven't used it much because of user error. This certainly enlightened me on how best to use the brewer.
Chemex are great. The only reason why I don’t own one is because they are glass and I’m certain to break it
@StaticCamperVan I worry about that too, but no problems so far. Likely won't replace it when if it does break. I also have backups to my backups. Grinders, brewers, hot water. Loving coffee is a serious business!
Oh dear, this looks way better than my Walmart brand of instant coffee 🤔
To be honest, I wouldn’t know as I’ve never had Walmart instant coffee
@@StaticCamperVan it's used strictly for waking up 😂👍
you can get stainless steel filters that are reusable I like the paper one but sometimes I run out the stainless come in handy
Yes, I’d like to try a stainless filter for the novelty. But I only like paper filtered coffee. As well as the fact that washing the stainless screens is a no go as I need to limit my water usage.
@@StaticCamperVan with the stainless I'm constantly having to dig it out of the garbage as I'm used to popping the paper ones out with the puck
@crossxcats hahaha
@@StaticCamperVan Thank you! I have a scale so will start measuring them out. Looks like you're good at eyeballing it.😄
Wow a Saturday video and a coffee video as well. i'm impressed ❤
Hopefully people will start to watch
@@StaticCamperVan luv using handheld grinder and as well use filters few times and rinse
I’m with you on making exceptional coffee! Yes the roast I is huge. Thank you for your tips.
Thanks for watching
If you happen to have access to some ice, your method also makes fantastic iced coffee, just press over a cup with ice in it. Wonderful on a hot day.
I never drink cold coffee. Even in 100° degree weather
😊! Thanks
Back when I had a little more space, I owned 4 Moka Pots and 3 French Presses. And a few other types of coffee makers
💜
I miss a foamy top on it, not sure if it's possible to get using those tools?
Generally, filtered coffee isn’t foamy. You could put your coffee in a blender. I have an espresso maker that produces a crema on top of the shot.
Thank for this helpful video. I just made coffee with the AeroPress using your method. It came out perfect! I love it!
Awesome, you’re welcome
I’m wondering what percentage of your coffee enjoyment is derived from the ritual. There is something to it.
95% give or take
Good to see you. Have a great weekend and enjoy your coffee ☕️.
Thanks Sharon
😊😊😊
@StaticCamperVan Ha ha! Glad I'm not the only clumsy one!
@Lisa-16 certainly not!

Thank you!
I am not a coffee drinker but I am starting to get more into tea. I wonder if I could make loose leaf tea in an aero press.
I don’t see why not. French Press is a great way to brew tea and an Aeropress works similarly. But I think a simple tea strainer might be easier
Very interesting
I use aeropress
Will try your method tomorrow 😮
I bought the metal screen so I no longer use the filters...GAME CHANGER! Delicious!!

: ) THANKS MUCH for sharing and time for my 3rf Cup : ) ENJOY and ALL the BEST ! ! Cheers : )
3 cups already? Sounds like a great start to a day!
@@StaticCamperVan Thanks much and for sure, Woke up too early : )
Just switched to stanley pour over kit.................no need for filters.................only two pieces including stainless stell mug they provide like becuse it is more stable than aeropress
Pour over coffee is great
That coffee looks yummy. It’s 11:17am EST and I still haven’t made my coffee yet. ☕️ ☕️☕️ Let’s get going!
I decided to get up and make some since he popped up on my notifications saying how to make the best coffee lol... I'm about to have some now too... enjoy yours and have a great day
Yes! That’s what happened to me. I’m drinking coffee now but I used to the ‘pour over’ method.😅
Does aeropress allow silt to pass through the filter?
No, the paper filter is the same as a regular filter
How do you know the correct amount of coffee beans to put in the aeropress?
Weigh the coffee on the scale
Peace
Scott - do you bother with water temperature?
Yes, absolutely. Since I only buy light roast coffee, the water temperature is easy. Needs to be as close to boiling as possible.
I find that the next thing that's real important is the temp of the water, don't use boiling water, go a bit lower.
Water temperature is very important. Every roast level requires a different temperature. Because I always drink light roast, I use water directly off the boil. The lighter the roast, the hotter the water for the best flavor
I have an aeropress so I understand how they work. I like your method of brewing coffee using the aeropress.
I have a pour over that I have not tried...would that be same time?
Yes, keeping the brew time under 4 and a half minutes is especially important when using a pour over
@StaticCamperVan thank you. I had heard they pour over could make stronger brew
@candyjo59 immersion brewing like a French Press or the way I use the Aeropress is usually a “stronger” more flavorful brew.
Your way seems more practical and safer
Mvh Jens
Hey, drink whatever coffee you like best. I hope your Aeropress works well for you. They are great little brewers
Finally! The secrets!!🎉☕
All of the secrets
🤙
Plastic?
Is it BPA free?
I don’t use plastics, but would like to see this in stainless steel.
This model of AeroPress is made of polypropylene which doesn’t contain BPA.
I’m a heathen lol I always use H&H in coffee 😂
Nice video
I know you are not a fan of French press but I was wondering if there is a reason you do not like them?
I actually do like French Press coffee. The only thing that I don’t like is the coffee grounds that get through the press screen.
That’s why I like this Aeropress technique. It makes the same immersion brew that a French Press does but with a cleaner final cup
@@StaticCamperVan Oh ok. I see. Thanks
I love a mellow sharp tadte def berry comes thru and been wondering about aero press
Eropress is the way ho scott thank you for sharing
Sadly I think my taste buds are toast when it comes to coffee. I have been drinking it black, so strong the spoon almost stands in it, for so long that when I even add a splash of milk it makes the coffee sickly sweet, much less adding an actual sweetener. Some of the fine, highly rated coffee shops in the area taste like 'ashtray water' to me. It is a shame that coffee has become so utilitarian in my life.
Sounds like you may have worked some graveyard shifts lol
@@davemenard5089 My whole life has been a sleep deprived work shift it feels like sometimes, but yeah even now I pull over nighters to get things done.
