this is a game changing tutorial for me. I have just been using the pen tool in tiny increments to make curves, since the curved pen tool was hit or miss. This shaves hours off. Thanks!
small tip to those tracing: use two layers - the base layer contains the image(dimmed in the layer options) and the upper layer (in keyline mode) for tracing....to dim the image layer double click on the layer in the layers panel and set the dim image option in the resulting dialog; to set keyline in the tracing layer, hold control and click the (eye) icon on the relevant trace layer ( thereafter the image appears dimmed below a keyline version of your vectors whenever you trace...no need to worry about the fill or stroke until you finish editing the geometry)
Wow, I'm impressed! After watching countless tutorials on the Adobe Illustrator curvature pen tool, this is the one. Can't believe it doesn't have more views than it does. Give this guy some likes please and subscribe to his channel...
This tool is a revolution for me. I am using to straighten seams on patterns I am drawing from flattened 3d pieces imported from blender. It allows me to straighten the seams while maintaining the volume of the garment.
thank you so much! i am actually taking a illustrator course and i didnt pay attention in class yesterday and the homework was to make cards suits with the curvature tool! thx so much for making this!

very well.. you helped me a lot.. i'm very fanatic in tracing..especially in photoshop.. now i want learn trace by pen tool in illustrator... keep it up help other around..
How do you create a new curved line without closing the path? The curvature tool won't release unless I close the path but I am only looking to draw a single curved line.
I am new in illustrator, and yesterday I was using curvature ,I was totally confused with the use of curvature ..Bcoz I don't how to use and how to stop it ..From this video, I get the idea how to use but how to stop this from which option in window I don't know.
The behavior of the curvature tool is very similar to how my embroidery digitizing software allows me to manipulate curves. I currently use Illustrator CS6,...is there any way to add that new curvature tool to my version? Just asking....ya never know.
when I use the curve tool and try to make another anchor point it won't let me put a new one it'll automatically try to connect to another anchor point how can I stop this?what am I doing wrong?
For all the magic this tool creates, it's "inconsistent": for the longest time, the "Pen +" icon has always means that wherever the path is clicked, a new anchor point is added BUT NOT HERE???? Please, Mr Adobe, this is wrong from an interface point of view. Thanks for the video.
I got it! I tried this again and this time, the "Pen +" icon not only MOVED the path but also added an anchor point. OK. Better. What confuses me is that the "regular" Pen tool with it's "+" icon ONLY inserts an additional anchor point -- it does NOT allow moving the point immediately like the Curvature tool. This takes time to get used to...
Am I the only one thinking this tool is just stupid? i can make the same with the old one with less points in less time... don't really see why this should be better in any way. Already from the first point I draw I find this much worse than the old one because you can't decide a fix direction. thanks anyway for the tutorial.

welcome to corel draw. You could do this since more than 15 years ago...
That's true, but still there are few things lacking in CorelDRAW. But I am an admirer of CorelDRAW since CorelDRAW's selection has no match.
true
Great!
thankyou sir
thanks
Close it up at the end... how!?
❤️

I thought it was hard to use
I preferred the original style, wish there was a way to revert
Corel draw already have something like that century ago 🙃🙃🙃🙃
It's the bat sign, not batman logo.....I'm offended.
Just kidding 😆
What is this tool's equivalent in illustrator? The curvature pen tool in illustrator is horrible compared to this.
Am I the only one thinking this tool is just stupid? i can make the same with the old one with less points in less time... don't really see why this should be better in any way. Already from the first point I draw I find this much worse than the old one because you can't decide a fix direction.
thanks anyway for the tutorial.
completely agree mate
the tool provides one more option for curve control....it is not restrictive....think of it as an extra new habit to pick up
it's more easy/intuitive for beginners, i guess.
I fucking hate this shit so much how to turn it off?
Thanks for this quick and very informative tutorial!
