@AGRIF01 Because every sheriff in the state attends that academy, and they all have different uniforms. Upon completion of the academy you wear your departments uniform. Hope that clears it up for you.
As long as the PA State Police continue to refuse to recognize PA Sheriffs as officers....then the Sheriff's in PA will continue to serve warrants, do some prisoner transports, and provide courthouse security. Thats it I remember when I started in LE in pa back in 2003, the city of Macungie (upper or lower, dont remember) wanted to hire the Lehigh Co Sheriff to provide LE...
the State Police screamed NO because it saw a dangerous inroad into its funding and numbers...Macungie had to make to do with long response times from PSP. Any have ever since. PSP have AWESOME troopers...but the agency mentality is wrong.
Is the physical part easy? I’m just confused cause I believe the woman in the beginning said she was out of shape and didn’t know what to expect. Not that I’m complaining, I’m in good health just have a hard time pushing my self to do cardio. Figured I’d have some hope with this position in Pennsylvania but judging from some comments here I’m guessing it is hard just like other police academies??..
General Disarray thats for people who are police academy act120 certified to become act 2 state sheriff certified so they dont have to attend the 5 month academy
I can tell you haven't deal w/undisciplined people and demanding their respect. Us Hispanics are raised with love or force...either you listen or you're whooped and my parents always told me "either you learn with me or the cops/sheriffs will teach the hard way" well....no need to learn "the hard way" in the academy.
can somebody help me im 15 and got my mind sent on being a police officer in New York state. what do I need to do 2 years criminal justice program then a academy?
... None of my Criminal Justice Instructors told me that I'd get to play with Lego blocks... I've never wanted to be a sherrif more than I do now.... :)
All this to become court room security guards which is what Sheriffs essentially are in state of Pennsylvania. Why not become a police officer or trooper?
sledge hammer it depends on where you work in the state certian counties like allehgany are REGULAR POLICE and about 15 counties have patrol units so it depends what county your in as to what you do western pa counties are more like regular police and north eastern are more like court officers
Doe...I havent worked as a police officer in PA since 2007, but back then, ONLY Allegheny had its sheriff's officers recognized as police and were actually able to patrol. The rest were hamstrung by the Sheriff's training not be recognized as equivalent to 120
I think they’ve been fighting for full authority but the troopers & other agencies are fighting that. You know how corrupt some of our cities are, imagine another person actually having jurisdiction in your city to investigate you
I wanted to know what i could expect when i began my deputy training and i came across this vid. Its amazing what you can find on youtube
Well did you do it ?
How did you do ?
What would you do differently today ?
@AGRIF01 Because every sheriff in the state attends that academy, and they all have different uniforms. Upon completion of the academy you wear your departments uniform. Hope that clears it up for you.
Very nicely produced and accurate, great job.
I’m with it! I would definitely like to become a sheriff of my county. For my family and my community. I get so excited and pumped to do it.
I went through this acadmey I can tell you it is no joke great training if not the best training
did you get through it
+Andy Elkins yea
it's not tougher than state police training

Why at the end they have different uniform on
in pa you go to one training center no matter what sheriffs department you work for
Pennstateoutreach...isn't there a modified 2 week course as well?

I didn't see any "STOP RESISTING, knee to gut, foot to face" training??????
Would you shut up?

when I call 911 for help, I don't want no lego playing deputies responding please!
Shut up!
***** I think you're taking my comment way too seriously.
I agree wholeheartedly. Most civilians will never understand.

Oh my. 8 years ago. Have you became an officer???
they patrol around downtown there's slot at the airport
Your response tells me you provide cops with plenty of job security.
it's funny because the supream court has even ruled that the police have no obligation under the law to protect the individual...
those arnt legos there mega blocks the overprotective version of legos
Degree does not matter, could be in art if ya want
... None of my Criminal Justice Instructors told me that I'd get to play with Lego blocks...

Well, you can start with spelling "Sherrif" as Sheriff, before you even attempt to become a Deputy.

BEST PART OF THE ACADEMY STARS AT 8:15 :D
No, this where they teach you to respect the law. If you hate the law, it is because you have a rap sheet. Cant help you there, sorry
I love PSP
no the sheriff patrol the city
NO ONE SHOULD BE MADE TO DO YOGA....ITS AGAINST MY RELIGION....
Your on RUclips so put in bad cops. Don't be one 95% are
Nate Miller, I don't understand you. Please spell properly inorder to not seem like an uneducated minor.
What a weak academy! !!
