This is the weirdest sounding demo. I wonder when it was recorded, what session it is from, and if anything else has leaked from it? Never heard any other session that sounds like this.
I can answer those questions! In part anyway. It was recorded at the Chicago Recording Company. The Machina era sessions at the CRC started in the fall of 1998 and lasted an entire year, ending in the fall of 1999. Just about every song recorded during these sessions went through a lot of transformations and they recorded just about everything they did. Other early versions from these sessions that have leaked include "Slow Song," which is an early version of the Crying Tree of Mercury. ruclips.net/video/0ShrETBcuS4/видео.html "Dross (Spacey)", an early version of, you guess it, Dross ruclips.net/video/panS76cJhqk/видео.html "Virex", early version of The Imploding Voice. I don't have the CRC recording, but here is a live version that reflects the early version: ruclips.net/video/uUJtCXarm0g/видео.html "Raindrops" a very different sounding demo of what became "Raindrops + Sunshowers". ruclips.net/video/IKi-3gxkgis/видео.html "Glass and the Ghost Children" Here is the earliest band recording out there, which was also recorded in these sessions: ruclips.net/video/c8OsusGW2dQ/видео.html Whether any of these sound anything like "Disco King," probably not. But I suspect what I listed here only scratches the surface of the alternate versions which we will hear on the reissue
If I remember correctly, unlike the other songs during this era, this song was originally recorded using one of those low quality, small, beginner guitar amps because of the unique sound they happened to be able to produce. Personally, I think this particular demo demonstrates that strange guitar tone.
Interesting how the early Machina 1 demos have that Machina 2 sound. A lot of people say Machina 2 was always supposed to have that lofi distorted sound, but taking this into account may support the argument that most Machina 2 tracks were simply in their early stages, just like this track. In general though, all the speculation and mystery that swirls around this era makes the thought of that upcoming reissue so sweet.

No it wasn't
You ridiculous, ridiculous man
You can't eat all those hamburgers
Or talk about amplifiers
a Crate GX15R specifically
@@swarlerInteresting! Crate was my go to amp in the mid 90’s. Some of them sounded really good.

This is awesome. The reverb in the chorus is amazing.
Thanks for posting this. Everlasting Gaze is my favorite SP song.
Whoa this is awesome! I love this, thanks for posting
Love it many thanks for the upload ❤
Emphasizing the synth over the guitars with the reverb sent too many test listeners to the ghost dimension.
hahahaha
🖤🔥
This is so good
yeah I too kinda like this better
Is the Disco King part a separate piece yet?
How and where did you get this?
I actually prefer this version.
This sounds like the drums were recorded with a pair of crappy headphones! Yikes.
Aw baby's first demo 😢
