I had a laptop where onedrive was so integrated to the point it screwed up the whole computer trying to remove it. I ended up returning it and getting a mac instead.

I am a OneNote enjoyer and recently i was trying to sync my notes to my other devices before exams, only to find out i ran out of storage in OneDrive which means onenote was taking this space this whole time along with other things that's uploading automatically to it. @@JohnnyThund3r I only switched to Nobara Project Linux once the Steam Deck came out and showed me 95% of my games work, and frankly for the other 5% it's because of kernel level anticheat which these days I hold the same disdain for as James Lee does for adobe products, so I kinda hacked those off like an infected limb and I feel much better for doing so. Davinci Resolve works, Krita works, Libreoffice works, Steam and Heroic Games Launcher works, and a lot of the other stuff outside of that I use works in Bottles. I'm good. While it's an imperfect experience, I'm much happier since switching. A shame that while I'm happy about it and have no intention of using Windows 11 or any windows after that ever again, for a lot of people it's still in a chicken and egg situation in regards to program support and the learning curve does not help.

I made the mortal mistake of interacting with OneDrive once. What I assumed was a backup was actually a quantum-linked copy or something, so deleting them to free space actually just wiped my entire documents folder instead. Thanks Microsoft, go eat my entire ass.
I actually use OneDrive quite a lot to transfer files between devices, but I made the mistake of backing up my desktop contents before and now it's permanently fucked even after I unlinked it

I literally didnt even interact with onedrive in a work manner, yet some how it added a section of my documents folder to itself and then bricked itself when I downloaded a 10gb mod off moddb. It then ate a chunk of my documents folder, a ton of old pictures, and forced me to recompile junk for a lot of my games. More so when I deleted it Thanks onedrive, very cool.
I did a fresh OS install just to stop it from being installed in the first place........ only for Windows to sneak it in disguised as a windows update. Also Windows decided the folders it's giving to Onedrive should be in Spanish now.

no joke attemped to remove my entire onedrive like a week or two ago, turns out your desktop is directly routed through onedrive, causing my entire desktop to be erased.
I was so lucky that I noticed that OneDrive was stealing my desktop and documents folders shortly after a fresh install of Windows 10, so I didn't have much to lose. I spent, like, two hours trying to completely disable OneDrive. It was an absolute pain in the backside. OneDrive is just fancy ransomware nowadays.

Hey, this happened to me, too. My files aren't necessarily deleted, but they aren't visible in my desktop folders anymore, and it doesn't give me a way to fix that. I use a MacBook, so I have no clue how to fix this. Do you, by chance, have any ideas?

I know for windows you can show hidden files and maybe that happened with your macbook? Googling says you can do Command + Shift + . (period) to show hidden files so try that to see if they are there. They could also only be showing on onedrive so maybe you have to download them back

He's a hop skip and a jump away from using Linux. DeVinci has native Linux support, and Affinity Photo can be run via Wine. Not going to say Linux is easier (it isn't) but with how much crap Microsoft is pulling these days, I would not be surprised if Linux is overall, less of a headache now then Windows is.
I remember once a long time ago, I bought Final Fantasy 14 through the website since it was on sale. I then struggled for hours trying to get it to actually download, all because One Drive kept telling me that it didn’t have enough space to store the file.
Somebody I know deleted their one-drive folder because they don't use it, and it deleted their entire home directory, meaning all documents, desktop files, etc. Turned out windows-11 automatically moves all your user files into the onedrive folder if it's been activated even just once, then links the regular user folder to that. If you then disable one-drive it doesn't move the files back.

Yeeeeeees I just switched to Davinci Resolve recently as well! As a general note with using the other programs, the quality/style was identical from your other work too. 👍 I appreciate you leading by example. It takes animators like you and others that are looked up to to lead by example. Switching tools is always a huge pain and incredibly uncomfortable, but it's the only way progress can move forward. My next personal goal is moving all of my workflow over to Linux, but I'm not going to pretend like that has been smooth. But I'm trying! :)
I applaud you. For not only using anything but those main apps. But also show which alternatives you've used and broughts them to day light. There are many alternatives out there that just arent getting the attention they should GET and DESERVE !!

@@arjix8738 I heard we have to use the debloat after every update and most, like me, would rather try to keep the bloatware inert and easily ignorable instead of debloating every update. I only bothered with disabling one drive because it kept telling me it was doing things I never wanted and I had no idea what the chances were it did something very unwanted.
I did a full system wipe and started from scratch to make sure Onedrive was never installed. 6months later and Windows Update installed Onedrive disguised as a system update.
I downloaded a Windows 10 LTSC version from the official site and ran an activation from the command prompt. The LTSC version has no bullshit (no windows store, no onedrive, no solitarie, candy crush or xbox crap).

I literally didnt even interact with onedrive in a work manner, yet some how it added a section of my documents folder to itself and then bricked itself when I downloaded a 10gb mod off moddb.
It then ate a chunk of my documents folder, a ton of old pictures, and forced me to recompile junk for a lot of my games. More so when I deleted it

I was so lucky that I noticed that OneDrive was stealing my desktop and documents folders shortly after a fresh install of Windows 10, so I didn't have much to lose. I spent, like, two hours trying to completely disable OneDrive. It was an absolute pain in the backside.

Hey, this happened to me, too. My files aren't necessarily deleted, but they aren't visible in my desktop folders anymore, and it doesn't give me a way to fix that. I use a MacBook, so I have no clue how to fix this. Do you, by chance, have any ideas?
@@jacobjordan3962 im not sure for macbook cause i have a pc, I would def suggest not uninstalling onedrive cause that will definitely delete the files! I know for windows you can show hidden files and maybe that happened with your macbook? Googling says you can do Command + Shift + . (period) to show hidden files so try that to see if they are there.
They could also only be showing on onedrive so maybe you have to download them back

He's a hop skip and a jump away from using Linux. DeVinci has native Linux support, and Affinity Photo can be run via Wine. Not going to say Linux is easier (it isn't) but with how much crap Microsoft is pulling these days, I would not be surprised if Linux is overall, less of a headache now then Windows is.

I remember once a long time ago, I bought Final Fantasy 14 through the website since it was on sale. I then struggled for hours trying to get it to actually download, all because One Drive kept telling me that it didn’t have enough space to store the file.
So, your computer had enough enough storage space, but OneDrive not?
Somebody I know deleted their one-drive folder because they don't use it, and it deleted their entire home directory, meaning all documents, desktop files, etc.
Turned out windows-11 automatically moves all your user files into the onedrive folder if it's been activated even just once, then links the regular user folder to that. If you then disable one-drive it doesn't move the files back.
And that is why I refuse to "upgrade" to Win 11
one drive is one of the first things i forcably remove from any fresh windows install.

I appreciate you leading by example. It takes animators like you and others that are looked up to to lead by example. Switching tools is always a huge pain and incredibly uncomfortable, but it's the only way progress can move forward. My next personal goal is moving all of my workflow over to Linux, but I'm not going to pretend like that has been smooth. But I'm trying! :)

it can be fully removed, use a windows debloat tool, most of them provide the option to remove one drive
@@arjix8738 I heard we have to use the debloat after every update and most, like me, would rather try to keep the bloatware inert and easily ignorable instead of debloating every update. I only bothered with disabling one drive because it kept telling me it was doing things I never wanted and I had no idea what the chances were it did something very unwanted.
I did a full system wipe and started from scratch to make sure Onedrive was never installed. 6months later and Windows Update installed Onedrive disguised as a system update.
I downloaded a Windows 10 LTSC version from the official site and ran an activation from the command prompt. The LTSC version has no bullshit (no windows store, no onedrive, no solitarie, candy crush or xbox crap).
