I have had a hard time finding ivy geraniums in the garden centers in my area also. I have some old ones and will try to harvest the seeds and plant them. Your video was super helpful.
Perhaps the reason you get better germination results in the "flat" vs 6-packs is similar to my experience growing human and mammalian cell lines in the lab. The cells grow in a liquid medium with " growth factors" in it. As they grow, they also are interacting with the liquid by secreting stuff(really scientific term, haha). This process is called "conditioning". In fact, some cell lines would not grow if too few cells were "seeded" in a certain volume of medium that wasn't "pre-conditioned." Thanks for such a helpful and concise video😊
@@FlowerPatchFarmhouse Just finished planting in the seed bed like you suggested. I had been planting just one seed in a tiny pot to transfer over into a larger pot. 🌹
Hi, I linked to where I got the seeds in the blog post which is in the description box and here is the link to my DIY POtting soil instructions: www.flowerpatchfarmhouse.com/easy-diy-potting-soil/
I just mix coarse perlite with coco peat ,it is moist and airy ,later on wen trasplanting I use regular soil that contain slow relize fertilizer, vermiculite , coarse sand and some wood chips (not to big ) .I amend with a hanfull of worm compost and it works wonderfull ,I do not have to fertilize anymore since geraniums arent that strong feeders .It last the full season .Im on zone 9b.
At the 1:30 minute mark of the video I share a photo of the seed on the plant with the white fluffy bit attached. That is when they are ready to harvest. Store as you would any other seed, preferably in a paper envelope. Somewhere dry and coolish.
Have you ever tried to chit any seeds ! But what ever works for you gardening world soon back on tv I use chop sticks to prick out hi from uk thanks for your time 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
I have been trying to grow (zonal) geraniums for my mom for years (zone 8a) with no luck. Due to allergies we cannot bring them in the house at all in the winter. We cannot keep houseplants at all.. I have even put the geraniums in PVC and plastic greenhouses in the winter and they still die. Any ideas why? Thanks
It is most likely too cold even in those little greenhouses, I know it is here in my zone 8a. Here is a few ways you can overwinter geraniums: www.flowerpatchfarmhouse.com/easy-ways-to-overwinter-geraniums/ I like to cut them back at the end of the season, right before first freeze and put them in the basement. (I just cut them off close to the soil line in their pots) Our basement stays about 40 to 50 degrees all winter then I bring them back out in late March, early April. We can have a late freeze after that but if there is a threat of a freeze I pull them up close to the house for the night or I pop them quickly back into the basement until the threat is over.
@@FlowerPatchFarmhouse The greenhouses are actually large, around 4 ft tall, and around 3 foot square over the planters that my mom wants them to be planted in. We live in the Mojave and no one I know has a basement and our garage is not attached so gets blazing in the summer and frozen in the winter. That is why I was asking if you had any other ideas. Thanks
Sorry I did not specifically state that. I always have drainage. The holes in my example tub are viewable at the 3:01minute mark and it is the only way I can bottom water as stated at the 6:07 minute mark. With seedling I rely on bottom watering when needed.
Great demo! Thanks! I love growing them from seed. I’m happy to know they grow well in flats. It’s such a space saver when growing them inside! 🌸🌸🌸
It really is a wonderful space saver and they don't mind it a bit.
Thank you Pam
Helpful as always
Can’t wait to try geraniums I’ve never started them from seed
You are so welcome. They are easy and so fun.
Excellent no nonsense guide many thanks and happy gardening

You can do it! Plus saving your own seeds is just plain fun.

So interesting. It is a thought to consider, isn't it? I am 60 years old now and I am sill always learning.
I really enjoyed your transplanting of the geranium . I found very interested in knowing how you diy soil. maybe you have a video on this? Thanks.
I sure do, I have a video and a blog post. I need to update the video but here you go: ruclips.net/video/KSJej3q7r_k/видео.html

شكرًا 🌺.. هل تنتج نفس لون الزهور او تختلف ؟
The flower colors can be different as the plant was open pollinated. But some could be the same color!

Thank you .I learned something today.

What is the name of the geranium that is shown in the picture for this video? It has dark pink and light pink streaks.
That is one I started from seed, I think they are Pinto Premium White and Rose, but I can't be certain, it was a long time ago.
where did you buy these seeds from? thank you for sharing. Could you please tell me how you make your seed starting soil?

Yes, I show how I do that in the Delphiniums from seed video. Yes, I look forward to a new season of Gardeners World.

Do your seed starting containers have any drainage holes in the bottom?
