I grew up in Laurium and graduated from Calumet high school. Then went on to College at Notre Dame. I knew the Gipp family so very well. Namesake George Gipp, and his son, whom was my very first boyfriend ever! Lovely fact. Growing up, it didn't seem such a big deal. This is wonderful to see ❤💝🤜💥🤛

Back in Gipp's time, a lot of people went to college without attending high school. Up to the 1930's, American compulsory education ended at the seventh grade, so if you could prove you could do the academic work, unis would allow you to attend. They were called 'provisional students.'

Short FYI Jerry, My uncles Jim and John were friends of the immortal George Gipp and the Four Horseman. and as an aside, My father and all 6 of his brothers set a record at ND for most family members enrolled continuously from 1917 until 1939. At that time, this was a ND school record, to my knowledge this was a school record for years. I'm not sure if it's since been broken.

Notre Dame's last football game in 1920 was against Michigan AC (now known as Michigan State) on Thanksgiving Day. Gipp's last game that he played in 1920 was against Northwestern. The Irish finished undefeated in 1920.
