I just finished the series last night after a two week binge. You're The Worst was phenomenal. It was so real. You really bond with the characters and learn that they're not necessarily awful people, but broken people. I had happy tears at the end. I need to get my family to watch it too because right now I have no one to talk about it with
This came out as I ended a 5 year relationship (my longest) don't think I would have made it without this show. One week it ruined me the next it built me back up, but by the end I was free.
ChristinasWorld I dunno.. I kind of like this show not being popular. What fun is that? I think only the core fans are the true hardcore fans who belong to this underground and amazing tv show. Plus all the actors don't seem to have egos, nor do they all think their shit don't stink. It's all our little secret ♥️
This show is so fantastic - it's so different from anything else on TV. I've tried to get so many people to watch it, but they never do and it's such a shame because it's one of the best comedies on TV.
You cant change or force people, you can only plant seeds. Your attracted to the show cause you can relate they aren't so they will at their own pace if needed.
I just rewatched it for the million time. It's one of my comfort blanket shows during the pandemic. I love how messy these people are and so human. It dared to break down social constructs and pushed boundaries.
It's really hard to just jump in on this show. The groundwork was really set in the first two seasons. Edgar's episode in season 3 won't have the same impact if you haven't been following the series. If you are gonna watch this show, start from the beginning. It's gonna be worth it. This show has amazing actors and writers.
Mr. Anonymous I finally broke down and bought seasons 1 to 4 on dvd. I missed the first 2 seasons, so I am all caught up and will be by the final season in Jan 19/19.
@Inebriatd Not really. Alot of shows like "Scrubs" and other episodic series can be picked up almost anywhere during the run and understood in a few hours. YTW is different.
This show is so underrated. I love this show so much. It's just so relatable and grounding, and makes you feel like you're not alone in feeling alone, sad, and lost.
Thank you! There's just so much tv out right now that some really spectacular shows can get past anyone and I just want to. I'll do another one of these after my next video, which will be up tomorrow!
I absolutely love the show, everything in the story from the way they portray mental illness and the absolute dickery of the characters to the wit, comedy and romance. Finished watching all three seasons in three days and I can't wait for season 4. It easily made it's way up into my list of favorite tv shows. Also, I'm loving the way you created and presented your video essay. Cheers to having a new subscriber! Looking forward to seeing more.
This video convinced me to check out the show and I just finished the last episode. THANK YOU! This is yet another one of the many TV shows you've recommended that I absolutely LOVED!!
I love how this show handles side characters. There simply aren't any sidekicks. I'm in season 3 right now and fully invested in the main characters best friends Edgar and Lindsay. And on top of that, even tertiary characters Vernon and Becca are well fleshed out with growth and resolutions to their own mostly unrelated arcs
I got hooked to this show since it aired for the first time and I don't know why it's not as popular as it should be. Maybe because it doesn't fit in typical narrative of "rom-coms" and people have hard time accepting that.
The first episode I watched was the season 2 opener. I was randomly flipping through the channels when it caught my eye. I was immediately hooked after that.
It makes sense when you're an adult with flaws. I'd flip through it when it was airing but never understood back in 2014 when I was 16. Now I'm 24 and this is scary relatable but I dont feel so alone watching this perfect show for me at the moment.. I'm on season 4 and I'm scared that it will end and ill be forced to go live the real life. Its like they're friends who came to visit for a few weeks and indont want them to go away.
I don't know if it's my favourite, I've always really loved Scrubs. Mainly for its ability to explore darker themes of loss and failure within an otherwise comedic world. Love the channel by the way, keep it coming!
I don't think anyone will see this comment, but fuck it. I suffer from depression, and I'm getting married, and it didn't happened in 5 year period, it was shorter.. 5x times shorter, but it feels right. I feel exactly like Jimmy and Gretchen now, I can truly empathize when Jimmy drive off after proposing, or when they have doubts about absolutely everything because I feel the same. It is so real, it is funny, I wasn't looking for someone to complete me, and I haven't found it though. But I have a great emotional support, she is my best friend and I always feel better when I take one day at time instead of forever like most sitcom does.
Exactly why I love show. I knew it was a good show when one character started having crippling PTSD and his friends downplay his illness not caring as much as they should.
Thank you for making this. It's one of my favorite shows and more people should watch it. MARRIED was a similar show that was also great, but cancelled too soon.
Just stumbled into your channel and I just gotta say, good job! It's hard to find insightful non-spoiler reviews on YT and you're definitely carving out a niche for it!
After watching Catastrophe on Amazon Prime. I did a google search on raw and honest shows and this popped up. I completely binged the show in 3 days. I absolutely loved it! Most of the characters make deplorable decisions but the rock stars of this show are Jimmy and Gretchen. I championed their relationship from day 1. They are a couple of broken people trying to figure it out. Brilliant!
This show is one of the best shows ever. So excited for the final season. I just got my girlfriend into it after nagging her for months about how amazing it is, we’re binging season 2 today.
Did anyone else notice that when Gretchen moves into Jimmy's apartment she's carrying a food processor (what she wanted from the wedding à la her first conversation with Jimmy)? I'm probably reading too far into this but if this was intentional then it's a nice metaphorical touch
It is what remains when you tune down the worst to just lazy, take out some bipolarity and size down the acting and the set. A little gem. Biggesst difference is, it's not that dark. Also, the non verbal is mostly brilliant.
this show has to be one of my favorite shows , it had some pretty great moments , but it dealt with pretty touchy topics like depression , ptsd, relationships , ect.
Everytime I need to be emotional checked I rewatch this show. It's literally like doing mushrooms, if you you binge watch before or after a relationship. Prepare for emotional devastation
It's still one of my favorite sitcoms. So funny. I still have romanticized day dreams of being a successful author/celebrity dating a beautiful manic depressive girlfriend and having a diverse social circle comprised of deeply flawed people who I recreationally abuse drugs and alcohol with while suffering little to no consequence. I'd love every day. I actually own the entire series on D.V.D.. It's a shame it was never cleaned up and released on Blu-Ray. I understand why though. The show never had a huge following. At the time it was slotted into a late air time between a lot of great F.X. shows. For me it will be something I revisit from time to time for the rest of my life.
this video has so many spoilers... anyway this show is truly gold... it'll take time before another romcom this good comes out. raised my bar so high, it'd be so difficult for me to watch another romcom
Nice idea for a channel, I'll stick around for a while to see if you can pull it off. Best of luck btw. Oh and yes, I watch and love YTW although it can't still be "on the air" I guess we say "in production" now? On the "Net"? On cable? Help me...
I found this show by accident 2 years ago. I consider this show the anti-Friends. I feel for Gretchen the most cos for the first time, a main character suffers from clinical depression--not just depressed or down but she has the same illness I do. I see Gretchen having one of her episodes, and I do understand. Though she tries to push Jimmy away, he surprised her and us when he comes back for her and builds this tent and comforts her as she cries. Seeing her cry brings tears to my eyes cos I struggle. I know why she's crying. There are 101 things I could say about this show cos I love it. A part of me is glad the show's not popular., Cos if it was popular I wouldn't be watching it. I never want to hate this show cos people want the "Lindsey" hairstyle. In other words I care about this show cos of grown to love this motley crew of friends who aren't perfect.
Laugh and shout "What?" during the exchanges between Gretch and Jimmy. I truly love Lindsey and her lack of filter. One issue: show is good at avoiding the hard hitting financial pressure that 30 year old people deal with here in LA. Silver Lake is crazy expensive. Unless you've been handed a pile of cash (book deal?) you are hustling to maintain a lifestyle like the one presented here. It's mostly okay because it's not why I want to watch these guys, but some of us notice how little it comes up.
Gretchen comes from a wealthy family, and is personally deep in debt. Lindsay married a banker, and after splitting up with her husband she takes up the unglamorous little studio apartment vacated by Edgar's girlfriend who moves back home because she realized she didn't have what it takes to realize her LA dreams. We are introduced to Edgar as a homeless vet who fell through the cracks in the social system and who is taken in by Jimmy, who invested in a nice house with the majority of his earnings from his freshman novel, and who himself comes from a working class background so does not think to charge rent from a buddy, no matter how long he needs to crash. Also the part where the majority of these characters are extremely cunning, mercenary, and sleazy, exactly the kind of person who thrives in an environments that reward people for being good at bargaining, adjusting perceptions, and snaking others for fun or profit.

The most realistic depiction of actual depression I've seen in any media.
Bojak Horseman & Normal People
GirlCalledKris2 no one in normal people has depression maybe social anxiety
ricky gervais has a show called after life that's really good and can be so sad ....he is very good at depression
please suggest shows like this I wanna watch, this show is way underrated

Elaborate on why it is so good?
It's 2018 (well, 2017 when you wrote this, I guess), why anyone would be jumping in to the middle of a show now is beyond me.
Should start from the beginning, anyways. For me, I would focus too much on trying to figure out the past tan watch it now.

Gretchen taught me a lot and helped me find a lot of answers about my own mental health
This video got me to watch this show and I don't think I have the words to properly convey just how grateful I am to you for that fact

I love the way it ended. It totally stayed true the characters. Very bittersweet. Loved every moment.
