Happy thanksgiving, Does anyone know if we can talk about several opportunities we took advantage of to overcome a barrier for PIQ 4? For example, as a first generation student I don’t have the college guidance from my parents or family. However through AP, college courses at a local college and a college prep program I overcame the confusion and hardship that came with my barrier. Thank you
heck yes. looking through all of my prompts right now, but that could definitely work. i would personally put more emphasis on the college courses and the program you mentioned. no doubt that it fits however
I have a question, for the 6th prompt, If I am writing about me planning to carry en exhibition about the subject after the admisison time, is that valuable or should I only write about the impact and existed activities that I had executed
I don’t think all of them unless the prompt specifically has a part in which it ask how has what you’ve done impacted your community in a positive way. For example Prompt 2 he explains how you should connect how your art or whatever you use to express your creativity connects to a positive affect you have had on your community due to your creativity
1) Leadership = creative problem solving Ex. Hackathon, team building exercise Creative = not typical like coffee brewing, pH and chemistry How art solves problems 3) Quirky or mundane skill as a metaphor for a value 4) Overcome barrier for intl, ESL, low-income as montage
Unless your stories are directly related to an educational experience, I feel like UC's PIQ questions are a terrible way of selecting college students. They have no connection with actual education, which should be the main reason colleges accept students, but rather social/personal experiences, which is plain stupid. If you didn't begin some sort of peaceful protest, somehow add a stop sign through your connections with the local council person as a 13-year-old, or break your leg during a surfing accident, you're pretty much doomed to enter any prestigious college. It's like they don't want any smart people who just look after their education... The system's broken.
i think it highlights applicants who are doers. sure you can be smart, but if you are nothing more than that, how can they be sure that you will contribute to the campus or go off to be a change maker in the world?
