A part of the American Highway and Byway that is drifting away. Back in the day of pre-interstate highway this was the standard. Traditionally a family would own and maintain the entire complex so technically the business owned you lack of amenities and often times maintaining an old worn-out look just don't cut it and they fall by the wayside. Like someone stated they get used as shelters for the homeless or as a halfway house. To think these were once the Mainstay of Wisconsin Dells!
This motel is actually in the Pines, which is in Porter County. Michigan City and the LaPorte County line is a few miles to the East. I know that owner had started to remodel the motel. The half wall in front of the rooms is newer. I think he had planned on enclosing the walkway between the rooms and that wall. I'm not sure why the remodeling stopped. The motel was up for sale for a long time. Then the for sale sign came down.
Awesome video. Lived a few blocks away in the late seventies as a child. Always wondered what happened to the place. You guys should check out the Old Pine School not too far from there.
Not far from there is the old Pine Elementary School. Been closed for a decade or so. I'm not sure if they've closed it up lately but it would be a good one to atleast walk around. It's on the otherside of highway 20 by the county line
This is an AWESOME marketing/ outreach angle because it's a fun treasure find in the middle of a place that could/ is considered by economists as dead. If you had a big enough following and enough ppl would come to the town that could fund local businesses & bring it back to life! Keep up the amazing work! 👏
Shortly after I moved to NWI, my ex took me to Mount Baldy along US12. I was somewhat surprised to see how many places that were once thriving were now either closed, torn down or just left behind as progress moved forward. As we made it to the top of the dune, the view was a bit unreal - Chicago skyline to the west, and a nuclear silo to the east - go figure, eh? Life in NWI was a part of my life that is still a part of me and always will be - keep me informed, Steel - your videos bring back some very happy times (not to say that I won't have more in the future lol). 😁🤗💖💖💖
The NIPSCO power station to the East of Mount Baldy is not a nuclear plant. It is coal and natural gas powered. The silo is just a cooling tower for that plant. It is slated to be shut down somewhere between 2026 and 2028, as NIPSCO is moving to solar and wind power.
Driven by there many times. Stayed in an apartment just West of there above a restaurant/bar. Little "Neon Motels" as I call them are all down 12 into New Buffalo. Awesome explore!
When I was young, we always past that motel going from Merrilville on us12 to Michigan city. Its just a few doors down from Al & Sallys motel. Al & Sallys always seemed better built, because it was built with brick not cinderblock like the Black Hawk. It still looks like it is in pretty good condition
Same thing here. When I was a kid in the '60's my Dad had a boat in Michigan City. Every weekend we would pass this place. I always wanted to stay just one night, but my parents never let us. We saw it driving from Highland to Michigan City.
amazing abandoned motel video, so when i go to the local motel in detroit, wheeling, bakersfield, santa rosa, scottsdale, and des moines, so i have to earning money to pay these rooms, especially i have a woman visitor by funtime that i already pay a visitor, i will not tolerate to visitor these kids, only visitor yep, that's when i say the news about the men got arrested for child sexual abuse, so this is why i rather have to take care to those kids Only visitors with woman in a day each month, except for the unknown suspect or even a suspect with weapon you know, i will be a innocent person for me
storm did you hear about that majestic Star casino there who's in the hotel there for a squat meet your having a squat team stuff going there and train
My buddy just called me and told me he was out that way. It is a Black History Month convention. Thank you for the heads up Loren I really appreciate that.
. I cannot do what this Gentleman is doing . Whenever I am outside recording moving video, my drunken, long haired, walking trouble neighbor, destroys whatever i'm capturing . I did a video of one car, 1985 Parisian, four door, and he damaged all four of my cars . This all started when the tree removal people, bought the properties to his right, unfortunately I am the neighbor to the left . I called the Fire Department on one of there huge Fires, because at times, they would smoke, and choke, and ash, my family, and myself, out of are premises, and into the street, or even farther . I guess that I was not supposed to say, or do anything, to help myself, and this is one of the reasons, why I must lose the appearances of my vehicles . These people are Garbage, I am so tiered . gb* ~ it's a hard life, it's (MULDEW)

Hence the term Mom and Pop motel

That’s too bad that place seemed to be in decent shape a few years back

Before they closed it had become housing for many psychiatric clients and worked in tandem with area psychiatric facilities.
It has a lot of promise, if they wanted to make it a inn. Needs a lot of work.
Was jus by this place at our job we had in Michigan city 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
I need that plow 😂

Cool video, Storm! Remember it well from driving past it when I was a kid. My Dad had a boat in Michigan City.
