You think about them on occasion and sometimes you feel grateful, other times you feel sad. I wrote a letter to myself detailing all the things I loved about him, and after a year, I can read it and appreciate it. The details would have been forgotten if I hadn't written them down. Maybe that can be helpful for you as well. You will treasure it when enough time has passed, because pain is mostly temporary, fortunately.

It was 1 year this month for me, but I saw her 3 weeks ago, almost 4 and while it was brief, it was like a dream that I could hardly recall later on. She was so friendly and giggled, she felt like home. She'd been avoiding me for so long because, altho we broke up as friends, she still loved me, but she decided she couldn't anymore, and I reminded her of that love, so unfortunately I had to go. I'm only just now trying to date again, but with so much deep regret, my new challenge is not to let her ghost haunt new relationships and potentially ruin them.

But with time I found that this stopped, and I started appreciating qualities in other people without comparison. It made it easier to move on, because who was there to miss? Love is like an addiction in itself and it makes the brain act similarly, so that's why it's hard to leave someone you're still in love with, and then it takes time to get over it. Try to be open-minded in dating, but don't rush into something and give yourself time to heal and feel good again :) I'm sure it will get better.
