For such a small island, you have to admit Jamaica does produce some really innovative sounds, great musicians and world class sportsmen and women.

If I am correct the man describing the ska dance was Edward Seaga, Jamaican Prime Minister of the 1980s who has died in 2019 aged 90.

This is a trip! Gotta watch through the music to the Ska History and especially the Ska Dance moves. And I thought Ska was of the 1980s when I was dancing to The Beat, aka The English Beat and The Specisls-aka The Specials AKA 😂
NOW I get that The Kingmen had to have been listening to this up North in their 1960s college dorms-probably smoking some grass and spinning LPs of "Louie, Louie" by Toots and The Maytals when they came up with what most people are surprised to hear is a Reggae cover song about going on a cruise and meeting "a fine little Girl!" This music has a fascinating history of continously changing evolution. Successive generations will again "Discover Ska" after our generation has faded from memory. My dad was listening to Ska at Dartmouth college in early 60s-he lived at Kappa Sig frat where one of his frst Bros went on to do. "Animal House." Does anyone else notice that it's always been the rich educsted white kids who bring back from their Spring Break vacations the sounds from the poor ghettoes and sugarcain fields of the Caribbean? My dsd was from a big Irish blue collar family of poor Boston Irish-Catholic eight kid family. My Grampy hsd grown up a "Southie" in Boston's Irish immigrant white ghettoes of Boston. Unlike him, my Dad (oldest of eight kids) was able to make the strides of that successive generation of the American Dream and got a full scholarship for English Lit at Dartmouth Colee-it helped that he was an All Star ice hockey defenseman. He taught me about the music like this snd how it bridged the gap to and from cultures snd styles that most people in America back in my 1980s Salad Days dint know or acknowledge here or in England then. My dad is gone 5 years now but I still have amongst my 30+ Rolling Stones LPs the Chuck Berry Grestest Hits record he biought fot me, ssying "This is where Mick Jagger got all his ideas." Well not ALL of them were from Chuck, there was Howlin' Wolf, Muddy Waters and more...but i knew the message he was trying too convey to my teen mind at that time living in a white middle to upper class world-that the white pop music I and everyone was listening to then in both England and America-English Beat, Stones, Pink Floyd-even Van Halen and REO Speedwagon-all owed their cultural succes and art to previous generations of poor blacks from the Southrrn psrt of our Western Hemisphere. This music which had been around since HIS teen and college years and in another forma before that blends us into one people. We've got a lot of people stirring the racial pot of hate in our world right now-media and politicians mostly, and from many faction-who forget that without each other we couldn't have Barbecue or Rock and Roll. What kind of world would that be to live in? They try to divide and conquer us. Well just keep dancing.....

Know I've been neglecting punk and hardcore for a while and I promise to get back to them tomorrow. But this has to be seen now. A few days ago I posted some live footage of Toots and the Maytals.. Then I didn't realize it was part of a 40 minute documentary film called This Is Ska released in 1964. The film has been uploaded in four parts and offers an amazing glimpse into the ska scene in Jamaica in the early 1960's. Let's see all four parts.
The white man introducing the film might seem familiar to some of you. He is Edward Seaga who would go on to become the 5th Prime Minister of Jamaica in 1980. On April 22, 1978, at the One Love peace concert, Bob Marley forced the then Prime Minister Michael Manley and record producer Seaga to hold hands. But at the time of this film he was the owner of WIRL l (West Indies Record Ltd.) a business he started in 1958. It began recording local musicians and singers. mostly performing a Jamaican variation of American rhythm and blues records.
This first segment opens with Byron Lee & the Dragonaires playing Jamaican Ska. (I have to smile when I hear the name Byron Lee & the Dragonaires. When I was starting to get into reggae I was warned not to buy any of his records. He was considered sort of a hotel circuit tourist band that played watered down versions of the real thing. I never did buy any of his records, but he did do an OK job backing some famous singers, like Toots and the Maytals, among others.)
The candid scenes of Jamaicans dancing to the ska beat are priceless and this documentary is a joy to see.

So what your saying is that it's different from r&b but still wanting to claim it is r&b. I'm lost r u unaware that Jamaica has had its own version of music since 1668. Lol try again friend. It literally is in line with Jamaican folk songs. Sung by Louise Bennett b4 ska was even invented 😂😂😂😂 like b 4 real

Remembe to stretch "any time" you do some new movements or exercises of this or any sort! 10-15 min, on the floor first, a full range of upper body stretches.
