    I went a guitar clinic at a music store with Andy in 1991, Beaumont, Texas. He'd just got together with Ibanez and had a new model he was promoting. Very simple guitar, had a fixed which he said he preferred. He said it just felt "more in tune" and stable. Anyway though, he had several price points and colors displayed on the make shift stage in the store, and he had some backing tracks that he played several of his songs to. He didn't use a pick. Playing was phenomenal.

    In fact, Ibanez's AZ series is a series that really made me fall in love with Ibanez, and it already has a model or variation that will appeal to every guitarist. The guitar is really thought through and It is a guitar that reached its final form by asking many guitarists and revising it over and over again. You feel it when you play it. Of course, there are many different and very good brands and models out there, but if If you've played an Ibanez before and liked it even a little bit, the AZ series multiplies that by 10. If I had a tour or concert series I would definitely not set out without an AZ2204 or AZ2402, but Andy Timmons signature series is the heart of the AZ guitar story if you are an Ibanez fan like me. Of course, this opinion is subjective depending on the style and playing style. The thing that bothers me the most these days is that I will never have the financial power to buy this guitar...

    I had a 1977 Ibanez Stratocaster Copy , Fender Sued Ibanez Over It because it was identical to a 3 colour sunburst with maple neck , large Fender Headstock . And special case . I sold it to a guy who looks exactly like Ringo Star for $1500.00

    i know its nit picky, but on this guitar specifically i definitely prefer the glossy look of the original. I almost always prefer a satin finish but on this for some reason it looks a little cheap. Like you pick it up and it feels light and cheap/

    Finally he got rid of the big sise humbucker in the bridge.It just never sounded good to me but now its a hole different thing.The pickup window of the smaller humbuckers even if they have blades or if its a normal single coil pickup makes a huge difference especially on a strat style guitar.

    Why no humbucker in the bridge,like the Prestige and add the coil-splitting system of the standard AZ models?
    The white AZ prototype,they gave him looks so much better and is definitely more versatile,with the H-S-S and additional coil-splitting switch.This here is basically a RG-Strat,with mini-humbuckers.

    • @jiyu_the_monk.1983
      @jiyu_the_monk.1983 5 лет назад +4

      ...Because his main guitar is already like that. He does play strat some times, this is just that.
      It also gives an SSS guitar to Ibanez, which I dont think any current models had.

    Really love the AT signature models as a concept, but the nut width is so narrow (40.5mm), that the neck makes my left hand cramp up. For comparison: a standard nut width is around 42-43mm. Doesn't seem like a big deal, but it actually is.

    • @jonharrison9089
      @jonharrison9089 5 лет назад

      Really interesting that you bring this up. Guitar players don’t really talk about this much. I actually have the complete opposite experience with this guitar and guitars with 1.6 / 1.625 nut width. Fullerton Era Fenders tend to run around this size. Between 40.5-41.3. I find a JEM’s nut width ( 43mm ) really uncomfortable. To each their own.

    • @TRCOES
      @TRCOES 5 лет назад

      Yeah it's the weirdest thing. I think it's a combination of how your hands are built and personal preference, but I believe wider fretboards are usually recommended for players with bigger hands. Or at least they will find it more comfortable to play. I don't think my hands are that big, but I'd say my fingers are longer than average. I used to have a AT100CL as my main guitar and at first I couldn't figure out why the neck always felt a little off, but comfortable nonetheless. I remember getting mild cramps after about an hour of playing and at first I thought, that it had something to do with my own technique. Few years later the cramps got worse and sadly I never really felt like playing it because of that. I never had this problem with my Highway One Strat, that has a 43mm nut width, so I ended up comparing what's the difference between those necks and made the conclusion, that besides obviously the radius, the AT neck was a lot narrower. I ended up swapping the AT for an old PRS CE24 that has a Wide Thin neck (43mm) and it's just perfect. For years I was always very focused on the thickness of a neck rather than the width, but these days I find any neck comfortable as long as the nut width is around 43mm. Then again, someone with exactly the same hands as mine might find the AT neck comfortable and don't have any problems with it.

      @@redaben9936 Thanks , I know he use dp187 with HSS combination but I think maybe this one different because just use only DP187 with all positions so very big volume difference problem on pickup combination.

    It's too bad that it has only 22 frets, otherwise I'd buy one. I absolutely need 2 octaves per string. Anything short of that makes no sense to me.

    • @joshuamichael4312
      @joshuamichael4312 4 года назад

      @Ganjang gongjangjang that's the common consensus, but I disagree. Vinnie Moore and Joe Satriani have some of the best neck pickup sound out there Imo, both on 24 frets. I'd much rather have 2 octaves per string than some negligible tone difference.

    Rather than innovate in the body, just change the headstock and say in passing, that horrible headstock the traditional/modern is more beautiful. So keep the traditional headstock and innovate in the body, you do not have to be just in Steve Vai's body model.
    I really like Ibanez guitars, but I confess that this traditional Steve Vai's body model is already running out, it is noticeable that it needs innovation with respect to the body and not to the headstock.

    Jumbo Stainless Steel frets w/Prestige fret edge treatment, Roasted Maple neck, & Luminlay side dot inlay are the big known differences apart from the Crusier Bridge pickup. It was pretty silly him not pointing out those amazing and very desirable features! (The differences between the old Andy model and this one)
