Well that's done it. Fawlty Towers has been mentioned so I'll be quoting it for several weeks at least. You're videos from the Chesterfield have been a saviour through lockdown, thank you.
With a lot of canal youtubers not posting much, you have been a breath of fresh air for us. P.S. Aussies feel the same way about Fosters -- no one down under drinks it.
@@MinimalList LOL, only to posers who think they are being cool. I am like you Mike, nothing brewed, it just tastes bad to my stomach. My son tells me you should try Adelaide's famous Coopers Ale if you ever get the chance. Supposed to be a very good drop but I don't know where in the UK you would get it. Surprisingly they have around 97% of the world's DIY Brew Kit market tied up because it is so good. Might have to check up with our old friends over at @WellDeck Diaries as he likes to test-taste a tipple or two.
@@ilox11Your son is not wrong. They have a great range and it is all very nice indeed, although unfortunately I am now unable to partake for health reasons. Jo was right about the beer thing being ongoing of course!😎
I'm with Craig Spencer on this one! It's just lovely watching your travels and exploits, and George who is so cute. He was so good when he was accosted by the two dogs who wanted to make friends with him. I have really enjoyed travelling the Chesterfield Canal with you and hope one day we make it that far. Stay safe. X
Thank you for coming along with our travels on the Chesterfield. Yes, George has endless patients. He really isn’t interested in other dogs but he is quite good at tolerating them!
It is always a joy seeing all three of you. I get to see the beautiful scenery and hear great music you travel through Britain. Thank you for sharing your travels and adventures.
One of the best videos, good weather, great brief tour of the quaint little town (really love those, do more when you can), a tunnel, wonderful countryside, what else is there to ask for in a video?
You really should buy that building in the field. Dig an arm for a private mooring and you'll be close by when the tunnel is reopened. Plus you'll have cows.
Michael, one of these days, when you are coming out of a tunnel, and you know Jo is waiting, you need to step down into the hatch just before the stern emerges. It would be funny.
The longer this lockdown goes on the more jealous I get of you being out on the canals. At least I get to live it vicariously through your vlogs. Thank you!
The best views in Gringley are probably from the the far end of the village, where the beacon is. It is a replica of the beacons used as an early warning system to signal an invasion by the Spanish Armada, and was therefore located at the highest and most visible point. I remember the beacon being lit in 1988 to mark 400 years since the failed invasion. We used to go sledging down the hill beside the beacon every time we had snow.
I'm glad you enjoyed the canal, and the weather was kind for your closing piece, but only just. We made the same trip today, and I still watched this, I think myself very lucky to have it on our doorstep. Just tell people its a nasty little ditch with high walls and full of washing machines. As soon as it started playing she got into her favorite chair under the AC duct and in front of the floor fan. 5 minutes into the video she was curled up in a furry ball zonked out. She'll probably wake up and decide to help me fix a late dinner. Hope all is well!
Lincoln cathedral was, at 524 feet, the tallest building in the world between 1311 (when it took over from the Great Pyramid at Giza) until 1549 when the main tower collapsed in a storm.
@@MinimalList It's a classic pub quiz question. Lincoln Cathedral has three towers at the time. Now there is just one remaining medieval English cathedral with three towers. That's Lichfield, and worth a visit if on the Coventry Canal.
I think I said you would enjoy the Chesterfield when you locked into Stockwith from the Trent. I'm so pleased that you did. Somehow I knew you would. And thank you for bringing back many happy memories of West Stockwith and the canal - as far as Worksop anyway, as that was as far as we could go in those days. :-) Happy navigating. :-)
Did you all pack away all of the navigation guides for the entire rest of the canal? It's been a couple of seasons since you could use any of them! So Budweiser! So many years back I worked on The Beer Bible, taking photos of Every bottle beer in he World (such a hard job! Especially the having to taste test every one!) So Steve Wright the writer of the book told the tale of Budweiser and it's always remained with me. An AmericanGentleman in the late 1800's who was from a wealthy family and having money and nothing to do with his life booked passage on a ship bound for England and set sail, on the journey across the Atlantic he was asked to dine at the Captain's table one night and he spotted a young lady at dinner and was smitten. He was shy and tried to woo her in his fumbling, awkward way and being the time it was their affair was limited and mostly unsuccessful, partly because the young lady was not an English speaking native and was bound not for England but the Austro-Hungarian Empire and the city of Prague, with her family on some sort of family excursion. But the young man, wealthy and in love paid for everything, lavishing the girl and her family with food and the like. When the ship docked in Portsmouth he immediately bought a ticket and continued on to Prague so as not to loose the young lady he was in love with. They affair continued as much as it could, but she refused to make much of it saying she couldn't but never explained why. But they welcomed the young man and his money. Weeks later the ship docked and the young man followed the family to Prague, where he discovered the reason for their journey, the young lady was introduced to her future husband a Nobleman of the Country and the family introduced the young man to the Count as a friend of their daughter and nothing more. All the time they knew the girl was engaged and due to wed and the young man was heartbroken and fled the family and the girl and found himself hours later sat in a local bar drinking and telling his woes to the locals. He drank and drank and then realised after many beers what he was drinking. He saw the whole escapade as a sign and sought out the brewery and intended to buy the brewery and import the beer to the States, but the family beer of Budvar was a closely kept secret and they refused to sell, so the young man hired thugs to beat the brewery into selling and they still refused, then he hired chemists and tried to reverse engineer the recipe. He returned to America with what he thought was the recipe and started his own company and named it either after himself or the young lady (that part is unclear), but the beer never tasted the same as the Hungarian version, but became the best selling beer it still is and many years later. Budweiser bought out the Budvar Brewery in Prague and distributed that beer too. It was believed that Budvar was a rival to Budweiser, but it was all one company, running a smear campaign on itself to double its profits. So that's what I know the story of Budweiser to be and tell this story whenever anyone mentions Buds! You're welcome!
Fascinating... a few oddly incongruous details (as I understand it Budvar isn’t from Prague, but from České Budějovice, which the Germans call Budweis, and Adolphus Busch was German by birth, not American) but definitely a good story! Cheers! M

Back in 81 we stopped in Houston to pick up grain to take down to Chili, while in Houston the ship stocked up on a LOT more beer. All bud, we could not stand the stuff, so we ended up calling it budweasel because it tasted like weasel pee.

Specifically a Wookie is a very large furred anthropoid from the planet Kashyyyk... Chewbacca is the most famous Wookie, and the unsung hero of the original Star Wars trilogy. Famously Wookies have a propensity for ripping arms off people who don’t let them win at games like holochess. M
A full-bladder sign-off from Michael. I was expecting you to say blah, blah, blah, terms and conditions apply, you may not get a full return on your investment ...
LOL @ Budwater... err.. Bongwater...err.. umm as we call it in New Hampshire (they have a brewery here) "Merrimack River Water". I'm the Inventory Manager for a Top 15 MolsonCoors distributor in the US and the world's largest Sam Adam's distributor (along with many, many top shelf micro breweries). There's a rivalry with the Red (Bud) vs Blue (Miller). Back in the day when I was a delivery driver it was nasty-nasty in the trade delivering and it often came to blows. It's subsided quite a bit I'm told. Now it's just "Deliver, stack, go home". ;) No shenanigans like stealing cooler spots and floor displays or setting up booby traps in the coolers. ;) If you want a pilsner... just get the original: Pils Urquell.
AHH Sam Adams is like nectar. In Germany they have Ost beer (I think that means East, they are very similar). Budweiser is like Bavarian Weiss beer which also tastes like TCP!!!
