I love that she's talking about her technique and not dodging or explaining it like some mystical or god-given gift. She learned it and cultivated her talent with it to reach the level of mastery she's in right now. Now I really wanna hear Mariah explain her journey in singing especially with the changes in her voice in this way. Hope she drops the charades for a moment and have an interview like this in a documentary or something.
True but also the fact that Mariah gained a bit too much confidence in her voice after fame. She hasn’t tried to change her vocal technique whatsoever from her debut. She doesn’t realize that she needs to lighten her mix, and I believe she’s so used to singing a certain way that she doesn’t see that she could change her technique and improve. She has stated that she has to “sing through the nodes” which is obviously not something that someone who knows what’s best for their voice would do.
Mariah is a very intelligent woman , a perfectionist writer and a singer , she still has that 5 octave vocal range WHEN she is in studio doing her magic.Even I myself noticed the changes of my voice through years and it is really different singing in crowd than in studio.I guess that's what also happens to Mariah and remember she always told in every interviews that she has a stage fright and feeling nervous that could affect also to her voice.
Speech Level Singing which she learnt from Seth Riggs can help you push your tessitura higher than your normal, but it requires a very good basic with support and breath management, which she does have, hence the success in her technique now.

As a person who work with audio mixing on daily basis, i could easily recognized how unorganic his highnotes are. most of them if not all of them sounded altered even in live performance. there's a technology called vocal masking where the mic is set to raise you notes a few octave to make it sounds higher than it really is. technique wise Sohyang is far more superior.
She is one of the true musical treasures of Korea, her voice is pure control and power. For me, her flaw is the song choices during her career, mostly american diva-type songs from 90´s and 2000´s which are not my cup of tea, altough understandable because she grew up listening to them. She is shining more today, thanks Hallyu. She deserves the world.
I agree that she could sing a more intricate repertoire that allows her to show more of her skill in expressing fine emotions instead of just power belts and piercing notes.
I wonder how much Christina really is capable of. In her masterclass she says that technique is a very small percentage of what matters to her. I really want to hear her mix! I love her either way!

She doesn't brag, but simply explains and demonstrates. She's amazing!

Don't be fooled. She barely had like 5 lessons with him. If it werent for him yes she probably wouldn't have this technique but she taught herself after that. That's what's so insane. Seth Riggs didn't teach her how to sing like this. She did. He just helped kickstart this.

True, Sohyang currently is around the same level as prime Mariah technique-wise but Sohyang is the superior belter. This is a fact. Supporting C#6s in mixed voice already places her above Mariah in belting. Her G5s can slice a mountain in half, her entire belting range is one large, booming, resonant instrument. Sohyang is simply unmatched in the mixed register.. She really made it a priority to develop her mix to It's highest potential. Prime Mariah on the other hand takes the cake in agility, we all know NO ONE is better than Mariah at transitions. Chest to head, head to whistle, head to chest, even chest to whistle. Also Mariah was better all-around because even her lows were supported, Sohyang's lows just weren't a priority for her and below G#3 Sohyang is inconsistent, prolly due to her high as the heavens tessitura. But yeah Sohyang is definitely high up there with the legends.

GarageStudio using twang is a MUST if a singer wants to have large resonance and ease on upper belts. It’s because of not using twang that Lee Young Hyun- a powerful vocalist- can’t resonate on F#5 and G5 although she can support those notes

Sohyang's technique is phenomenal, it's essentially on par with Mariah's technique at her peak (Daydream) except Mariah's ability to support her highest belts & resonate so much without twang is unbelievable plus her musicality 😍
True, Sohyang currently is around the same level as prime Mariah technique-wise but Sohyang is the superior belter. This is a fact. Supporting C#6s in mixed voice already places her above Mariah in belting. Her G5s can slice a mountain in half, her entire belting range is one large, booming, resonant instrument. Sohyang is simply unmatched in the mixed register.. She really made it a priority to develop her mix to It's highest potential. Prime Mariah on the other hand takes the cake in agility, we all know NO ONE is better than Mariah at transitions. Chest to head, head to whistle, head to chest, even chest to whistle. Also Mariah was better all-around because even her lows were supported, Sohyang's lows just weren't a priority for her and below G#3 Sohyang is inconsistent, prolly due to her high as the heavens tessitura. But yeah Sohyang is definitely high up there with the legends.
we all know that mariah is a legend and her legacy will always be remembered, but the truth is that sohyang’s vocal abilities are better than mariah’s, nothing too crazy tho... i know mariah can do whistle notes and reach lower notes than sohyang can but sohyang’s upper belts are just phenomenal
GarageStudio using twang is a MUST if a singer wants to have large resonance and ease on upper belts.
It’s because of not using twang that Lee Young Hyun- a powerful vocalist- can’t resonate on F#5 and G5 although she can support those notes
Mariah's prime she's better than sohyang
Low: Mariah support C#3-D3 she can even support B2 while sohyang has G3
Mixed: they're both good but sohyang have C6- C#6 while Mariah G5
Upper: I think both of them are good too Mariah support D6 while sohyang E6
Agility: Mariah wins

아직도 그때가 정확히 기억이 납니다. 대략 17년전. 아이돌 좋아해서 댄스를 배우고 공연도하고,후로 일반 발라드에 감상에 젖어 있던시기.. 어떤 동영상 사이트에서 기독교 노래만 부르는 소향님 영상을 우연히 보게 되었을때..그 영상의 충격이 아직도 잊혀 지지 않습니다. 그 영상 이후로 항상 우리나라 최고의 가수는 소향이라고 항상 말했습니다. 지금도요. 당시에 아무도 몰라서 안타까웠지요,
더구나 그 당시, 가요 노래를 단 한곡도 부르지 않는 소향님이 였으니까요,방송출연도 단 한번 하지 않았었고요.
아주 오랜 시간이 지나고,저도 나이를 먹는와중... 소향님의 마음의 변화가 있었는지, 방송출연을 하는것을 보았을때 정말 큰 충격 이였습니다.가요를 부르는 것도, 또 방송에 나오는것도요
지금 이렇게 방송에서의 모습을 매일보며 항상 행복하게 지내고 있습니다.
