The Dublin Food Challenge: Can I find 3 (or 4) types of Irish foods in 10 hours?

- I have given myself ten hours to travel from Dublin Airport into the city centre, find 3 (4) items and return in time for my return flight. This food challenge was NOT as easy as I thought it would be.

Cadbury has a factory in Coolock, Dublin and makes 8 square Dairy milk, crème egg, Moro, boost, wisps, flake, crunchie & starbar. Cadbury Ireland uses local ingredients and exports.
But since an American company took over Cadbury the quality isn't as good. Add more sugar , less chocolate.
@@elbenni8786 Yep...use palm oil too. Cadburys chocolate taste is not the same since...
@@elbenni8786 They haven't changed any of the tastes. They haven't added more sugar either. Nothing has changed with all of the standard bars Cadbury makes. Complete misconception. They are actually planning to bring low sugar options. They briefly made a couple of changes in the past and come under scrutiny and changed back.
@@gulfstream7235 They stopped using Palm oil years ago. They briefly used it and came under fire for it and stopped using it
@@joceireRubbish, chocolate hasn't had the same taste for years especially Cadburys.
Dublin is a fair city and the locals are very cheery and friendly. We got lost after a sightseeing bus dropped us off across the river, but a lovely Irish girl showed us the way to our coach which was parked close to the Molly Malone statue which is perfect. Marvellous Irish holiday. 😍
How can you hunt for Irish foods in Dublin and not look for Taytos!!
FUN FACT: Cadbury's Ireland has a strong heritage here. It feels as native to us as it does to Britain. In fact the Twirl was developed by the Cadbury Ireland team before being introduced to the UK two year later.
I get the cadbury golden crisp here in my local shop in glasgow, along with ulster tayto and club orange, Nutty krust in asda. Just need somewhere to get veda, wheaten and proper sodas now 🤣
Indeed now all owned by Mondelez
That's an interesting factoid!
In both stores there was Butlers and Jacobs on the shelves: both Irish chocolates. And the cheese at Super-Valu was Irish made cheese too.
SuperValu isn’t a discount supermarket, it’s more like a Waitrose or Sainsbury. Discounters would be Lidl/Aldi.
Yeah there one of the big Supermarkets in Ireland North and South. They bought Wellworths in Northern Ireland back in the 90s. Plus their Centra convenience store chain has one in nearly every town and the DayToday brand in Ireland as well and probably a few other brands. All owned by the wholesalers Musgrave. So a lot of products in the stores throughout Ireland is supplied by Musgrave.
Their own brand is just because they are a big Supermarket like Tesco/Sainsbury's. They usually have the same products in Centra branded Centra. Although it is unique where it has franchised out its Super-Valu name like it's convenience stores. So not uncommon to see a family name attached before Super-Valu. Kind of like how Spar has the bigger EuroSpar brand for that as well.
Superb! I do love your challenges, and I must admit I thought all that globalisation would make you fail, especially on the chocolate front, but you did pretty well! For some unknown reason I'm now really in the mood for a pie and pint 🙅♂ Glad it's not just me that every time I hit record a siren goes off 🤣
@SteveMarsh
Makes it a bit easier if you have an idea of what to look for. Loads of differant Irish Choclates "Butlers Choclates is but one" There are endless cheeses! No point in going to Temple Bar for anything except expensive pints. You can pat up to 9euro for a pint in that area. Madigan's O'Connell Street for a Guiness pie.
Among other things, Scott, the brief glimpse of Molly Malone (in bronze) wheeling her barrow was a nice surprise. 👍
The look of contentment on your face after the pie and beer was epic! Never seen you look so happy.
I had a corporate apartment about a 5 minute walk west of the hairy lemon. Loved that neighborhood!
There are still certain cadburys products that are manufactured exclusively by Cadbury Ireland on the Oscar Traynor Road, Coolock, Dublin 17. Such as DairyMilk, Starbar, Creme Egg, Moro, Boost, Wispa, Flake and Crunchies
You should look properly in the supermarkets, there’s a lot of Irish Chocolate including Cadbury Dairy Milk that literally has “made in Ireland” written on it plus there’s flavours like golden crisp & Caramello which are not available from Cadbury in the UK and are exclusive to Ireland, though they can be found in selfridges for £1.29
At the word 'cheese' I began to salivate. That was fun. I have only discovered you today and am enjoying some of your older presentations. Cheers
Weird looking pie! The beer 5 lamps beer is named after an area called the North Strand in Dublin. There’s a huge 5 lamp lamppost there and my 88 yr old dad lived there as a child when the Germans bombed it.
Some crazy takes here. Huge amount of Cadbury chocolate is produced here in Ireland. The chocolate is actually very different from the UK version.
Very? I'll need to get over and try some. Any particular I should look out for?
@@TheFamousMileEnd yep bring the bog standard dairy milk from UK and taste alongside the Irish version. You'll see a big difference
@@shane6287 I'll have to. Been trying to get over for a while, but the Mrs wants a beach. This winter it is
@@TheFamousMileEnd we've loads of beaches. You'll need to wear a few layers but ya know yerself 🤣
@@shane6287 😆 same over here, but I live in Liverpool and the wife doesn't fancy a paddle in the Irish sea! There's no pleasing her!
Abrakebabra taco kebab (with garlic dip) - not 'traditional' but by Horslips does it work! Oh yes!
I love Dublin and Guinness ❤
What about Lily O'Briens? Very much an Irish chocolatier similar to Thorntons or Hotel Chocolat. I could see boxed of their product in your video while you were in Dunnes!
Cadbury is based in Dublin. In my area it was one of the biggest employers.some products did taste a bit different from britain but with the new owners the chocolate is not as good . Just discovered this channel, very good.
Cadburys have a factory in Dublin for years
I love Kerrygold Cheese and Butter. I can buy those here in Colorado. Just about all the grocery stores carry them.
I'm glad you were able to find the most important foods first, cheese and chocolate. Thanks for the video. (Love the body cam!)
Cadburys chocolate in RoI very different to UK..even more sweeter!
Did they tell you the five lamps story?
Love Irish soda bread
Half a pint?
Yes, of course you can have a pint!
I had to laugh at that one, 'There is a Tesco, but I am not going in there cause they are British'. lol very good. In fairness to Tesco here in Ireland they seem to work with local suppliers where possible to put them in the supermarkets locally to them.
Oddly too, if you had of bumped into me here in Dublin, I wouldn't have a breeze where you'd get a Guniness Pie to buy, I think they are kinda a homemade thing or maybe a pub might sell them as a food offering!
Yah. Same for the Lidl and Aldi. A lot more local produce and brands because people didn't like all that German and Polish stuff being brought into the shelves.
Excellent video and hope you enjoyed your time
Absolutely love your videos Scott.
Butlers chocolates branches over Dublin
Loving the videos Scott! If you return to Ireland again, I urge you to go to Killarney in County Kerry. Known as a "Town in the Park" with one of Ireland's greatest national parks next door to the town. It is also full of pubs playing music at night. I remember having guiness-infused steak with champ (potatoes) at a bar/restaurant there and it was to die for. Also there is a microbrewery there in the town if that's your thing. One of my highlights is an ice cream store called "Murphy's" on the main street. It has some great flavours such as whiskey, butterscotch and peppercorn. What I find hilarious is they have "bread" flavoured ice cream. It's a small town and ideal if you love nature and walks. You can also hire a horse and carriage outside the main station to take you around the town. You can fly to Kerry airport from Dublin and one of only two domestic routes in Ireland (other being Dublin to Donegal). The airport is between two of the counties largest towns (Killarney and Tralee). Happy travels and keep up the great videos!
I'm really enjoying your videos, having just got back from a train and ferry trip to Ireland myself. I know it's a Cadbury bar but Tiffin is fantastic and I'm not sure I've seen it in Britain. Five Lamps also do a lovely red ale which is well worth sampling :)
I managed a Five Lamps beer on my recent trip to Dublin, first trip outside the UK for 45 years!
I'm suprised that you didn't go for white pudding or visit Moore Street it has many food shops independent and a few chains
SuperValu is far from a discount retailer, in fact quite the opposite
You did an amazing amount of walking around while you were here, fair play to you.
Was there any hinges left on the door after talk about slamming it lol
Do you get the feeling they`re out to get you Scott judging by the outtakes ? lol
They were the outtakes I could use. I try to keep the videos family friendly! :-)
Cadburys chocolate is made in dublin.. far tastier than the british version..
You keep the sugar in the bar we don't buy a bar in the south get one in newry it does not taste the same same as lucozade
Until the end of 2021 Dairy Milk hadn't been made in the UK since 2011. After Kraft's lies all of the UK product was made in Poland and Ireland. Molendez is now moving a lot of European production of most products back to the UK. Because of the popularity of the Cadbury brand in Ireland this move will not have a great effect on Irish production.
Five Lamps is meh
Pasty cooked separately is never a pie. Grrr
could have bought everything on the list in a supermarket and Guinness is a local beer its brewed in Dublin.
another great vlog!!! my parents reside in Ireland whilst I live in England, find Irish cheeses and butter far better than the ones you find in supermarkets in the UK.
Lilly O Brian’s chocolate is one of my very favourite and is made in ROI however it’s not in bar form and is more of a present giving brand but delicious non the less.
SuperValu is far from a discount supermarket, and would be concidered one of the big 3 in Ireland, it would also be one of the pricier supermarkets
Try Skelligs chocolate from Kerry. They do some lovely varieties. Not easy to find though.
A bit of a disappointing documentary, but Cashel Blue cheese is making its way into England. Readily available even in Warrington market!
Lol what no credit card! You have had a nightmare Scott I went through the same crack in the 80s lol God bless you m8 thanks for the video John 😊
Dunnes had a store in Glasgow which sadly closed.
Thanks scott catching up on videos I missed good stuff
Do you know the 5 lamps?
Sorry late always love your videos you always brighten my day have a great week 💟💟
Pies aren't really a thing in Ireland
10 hours ??? I'm in England and I reckon I could buy hundreds maybe thousands of English foods in that time !!
I had ten hours because of the flight schedules into and out of Dublin. I could have bought hundreds of things as well, but there was the problem of carting everything home, and I only had a small backpack with me. 👍
@@PlanesTrainsEverything lol you should of give yourself 10 minutes and then spent the 9 hours 50 minutes to sample a few pints of stout ;--)...anyway good luck to ye fella
We flew from Stansted to Dublin for the day just to buy a proper corned beef that I could cook and sausages; bacon, black and white pudding.
Chocolate isn't imported from the UK. They have offices in Ireland too and are made in Ireland.
Notice non English variety Cadbury chocolate?
Throughly enjoying travelling with you in a vicarious manner! Warm regards from Wales.
Why didn't you go for a Tayto crisps. cheese n onion sandwich .
Only Cadbury uses fresh Irish milk and makes the chocolate crumb in Ireland. If you wanted the most truly Irish chocolate, you should have stuck to the standard block of Dairy Milk or any of the small and medium size Cadbury block bars (All are in a bar format in the UK now I think), or as someone said, the twirl or flake…
Sheridans cheese is owned by Dunnes. That SuperValu may not be their best, but to call it a discount supermarket…😂
Not great research on dublin food you literally walked by a local chocolate store butlers on grafton st Guinness pie shop looked like it closed when the brits left in 1921 and finished at the hairy lemon 🍋 .. didn't do the city justice in my opinion
Cadbury has a big factory in Dublin.
Do your homework before you make silly remarks about Irish products.
Our cheese and dairy products are internationally renowned.
So you like like a silly Scotsman which does not know much.
Don't be too mean. I don't know about Scotland but Irish dairy products are widely available in most shops in England and that includes the vile Cheestrings.
Wow how touchy are you? 😂
Calm down its only a harmless RUclips video
Yes you do get Irish products here but mostly Scottish produce.
