I haven't a clue why, but I always loved this body style of the Seville/STS. Interiors were dated, but extremely comfortable, and they were certainly competent performers for cushy luxury boats. If I could find a perfect example today, I'd probably buy it as a daily, haha!
These are some good looking cars and very well appointed cars. Many options on these were ahead of its time. Cadillac was always number one in car innovations and features. The Seville is still one of my favorite Cadillac's.
there is some truth to your comment and it's like Wat??? Lmao 😂 😂 rwd and awd are the best for great handling rwd offers greater turn radius and balanced driving. fwd however the car is not balanced, turn radius sucks, handling sucks as there is not enough friction on the rears so you have to turn more at the front. now with snow yes a fwd will handle a little better as the front wheels which do all the work have the majority of the weight. rwd will handle great in snow if it has a good set of tires and you don't punch the gas. it will not spin out as you say. I've owned many rear wheel drives and never had a problem in the snow. besides, if your a car man who can work on cars any car man would tell u a rwd is easier to work on as everything has more acess whereas a fwd requires more work to replace simple things. fir example quite a few fwd require removal of one engine mount and jacking part the engine up just to change a water pump. many rwd it's as simple as a Cover, a few screws and a part.
Wati H Thank you for your response. I really love these Cadillac's very much. I have never been more satisfied in any other car in riding or driving. If your a person that likes RWD then that's fine. I have been in RWD cars before and currently and I personally like the FWD more. Sure some things may be a little harder to do on FWD cars but so is somethings on RWD cars. I own few different Cadillac's both FWD and RWD and there are pros and cons to both styles. I drive a 2000 Seville STS daily and its a very pleasant driving car. It is a great handling and riding car and is very much a fun car to drive. These cars are full of excitement. But if you like RWD cars, there are lots to choose from like Lincoln or other model Cadillac's.
Just bought a 01 STS BLACK with the upgraded performance Northstar motor. And Corsa exhaust. Love this car. Very smooth and fast nice video man. Beautiful car. Thanks
This was my first car, i absolutely loved it and would do anything to have it again, its an incredible car, had a lot of standard feautures that most economy cars still dont have
I just bought a 03" STS Diamond White with every option even the Nav unit. I pretty happy with it. Rides like a dream in True Cadillac Fashion. Im not a Cadillac Guy but the car is so clean, I mean the tan leather is in pristine condition. The car is absolutely flawless. Granted it has 127,000 but I figure by the looks of the interior and exterior the only conclusion i can come to is that they took care on the engine as well. I'm in Love Man.
Reliability issues depends on the car, I had an '01 with oil use issues would have to add a quart every 500-700 miles. Crashed it, got an '03 and didnt have the oil issues. Great car, comfortable, good looking, and still get looks. Find me another 2003 car that gets as many looks as these.
Here in Germany, Bavaria, Munich i drive a 1999 STS, its rare as a Rolls and a head-turning car! The design is absolutely timeless! A masterstroke from GM!, And front wheel drive is the only way beside allwheel to get through the winter here in the mountains!!
I have this exact car i bought at auction 2 years ago for $1000 98,000 miles lmao rebuilt the engine with boltstar system been SLABING every day since wouldnt trade it for nothing soooo smooth😎
BleSs520! sol kid I got the same one too, paid 2,000 it's got 100.000 miles every thing original came with car fax. runs like new im the second owner, very profitable if we decided to sell them.
they are.. its just to bad back from 98 99 200 the northdtars had the bad head gastets like ..almost every car back at that time.. i have an 01 sts now b4 i had a 2001 buick regal gs just as fast but crappier suspension the sts i have has a tcc solenoid problem other then that she runs great
4.6L DOHC Northstar.... Worst engine GM EVER made. Head gaskets, even in 93' when it was introduced had head gasket issues. The problem is the head bolts that are used. The 4.9L OHV V8 they used before IS one of the best engines GM made.
+zzzhuh No its one of their BEST engines. Acidic coolant is the main problem where it corroded the head bolts and threads. It also happened on other GM cars and trucks. Head gaskets are not the problem. The ones that had the problems are most likely the ones that were not maintained properly!! We still have our 1995 Seville we had since 1999. Its got over 300k and still runs strong and very smooth. Never any problems.
+Neal Shields The Northstar engine is one of the BEST V8 engines made and is GM's BEST DOHC V8 engine. (1993-2011). They are remarkable in every way. I have worked on these engines and they are really not bad. You do not have to replace parts as often as other cars. There have a very signature sound and are excellent performers!! We have three of them right now. (1995 Seville SLS, 2001 Deville, 2005 Deville special edition) Ford/Lincoln has the Intech engine found in the Continental/Mark VIII and its a great engine as well. 32 valve DOHC V8 engine for both Lincoln and Cadillac. Intech and Northstar. Two of the BEST DOHC V8 engines!!!!
I have this exact car. Love it. The only problem is that my head gaskets went out last summer. Gaskets replaced and heads re-studded soon after and haven't looked back since.
+Henry Thomas There is nothing wrong with the heads. Its a coolant related issue. You mean the engine block was studded. But very good. I'm glad that you fixed your car. Hopefully you will enjoy it for as long as you own it.
Love caddy this year but I was already hesitant bc of the Northstar engine. I got a 2000 Buick LS I know it's not the same but Im very happy with the 3.8 it hasn't given any problems
Thanks again, I really appreciate the help. He did buy the car today so he's happy about it. I did let him know what you told me before he bought it though, and he said to say thanks as well. Take care.
Beautiful Cadillac! The interior and exterior are spotless and those Northstar's are beast. My mom owned one but it was all-black interior/exterior with gray ragtop. I have a question about the headlamps though. Are they custom for that years' model? I've seen a lot of '01 STS's but I don't remember the bright HID's in the center that the 3rd-gen Escalades have now.
Just saw a nice shiny black one of these with chrome strips on side at local dealer, good price, not perfect, but for an 01, drove nice and love that Northstar V8. Had to get it couldn't resist. My first Caddy. Higher miles on it but obviously been taken care of, and can't beat Cadillac's styling. I prefer rwd I think they ride better in larger sedans, but I drove the seville and its like silk for a fwd drives nice.
I watched this video before I bought my 2001 sts in February, thanks for the detailed review it helped me make my choice and if you are curious what it looks like I have a few videos of it on my channel... Thanks and take it easy bro
My last one was truly mint, spotless in every way, then head gaskets went, these cars are not worth spending the money on to repair when head gasket goes but if your friend is driving a 2003 he should be ok as they were the re-designed models, have coil packs built into valve covers, longer head bolts with correct thread pattern. These also have different ECU and were programmed to run on regular unleaded whereas the earlier cars (98-00) should be run on premium unleaded. Anything you need, ask.
Wow that thing depreciated like a stone. (asking $7,997) A dealer (who can provide financing, a warranty, ease of titleing, unlike a private party) is asking less than $8000 for a top of the line clean looking car that probably sold for between $35 and $40 thousand. Accords, Camrys, and Corollas of the same year that sold new for less than half of that with more mileage tend, when sold through dealerships have asking prices as much or more.
@kewlskater They are basically the same except 98s you are guaranteed headgasket failure at some point, plus the front end shimmy. 2001 uses the newer coilpack ignition...also with the possibility of headgasket failure and front end vibration between 60-75 mph. I just bought a very cheap 2002 with low miles so I researched.
Oh I didn't even think of that. I'm going to go with my friend when he test drives it tomorrow. From the pictures he showed me, it looks like it's in mint condition. So I guess the test drive will be the decision maker. Thanks for the reply. -Chris
A friend of mine is actually going to test drive a 2003 Seville STS on Sunday. Had they made any improvements by 2003? I know headgaskets were another issue with the Northstar, but I don't know if they fixed the problem by the 2003 model year? The one he's looking at has really low mileage... Only 35k miles! It's currently owned by a man in his 60's. Should my friend stay away from it? If you know of any other problems the '03 has, I'd really love to know so I can tell him. Thanks
I have one, its a amazing car to drive, it has amazing lines to it. Its now an older car but it still remains to look brand new, though the problem is the engine and all the under bits of the car. Everything runs pretty awesome, but when it breaks it costs big money....now a days you can pick these up for super cheap only several thousand bucks, but if anyone is thinking of one you better have decent money flow, because I'm a student and it's a rough go, Its sad to say I rather own a sunfire....
Headlights came in two types; non HID and HID. The HID lights are less common in the UK and have a ballast unit in the wiring harness and of course HID bulbs. HID parts are quite expensive. The real issue with all headlight types is the mounting brackets, these are all plastic and over time get brittle, crack and break,...or more like, crumble apart. Lens units get cloudy too there are polishing kits which can help but will not totally remove this & you will have to do it on a regular basis.
Yup had a 97 Deville Concours and yes the Northstar used oil 1st a quart every 2000 miles then later every 1000 miles! Dealership says its normal not excessive till every 700 miles till theyll do something bout it! Needless 2 say I dont own a GM car anymore and its no wonder they got in so much trouble!
yeah. the new v8 cadillacs are 320 hp in the sts and 290 in the dts perofrmance. but they also make a v6 in the form of a 3.6L that is a lot more common in two forms of 250ish or 304 hps.
@saabkyle04 they leak oil, but are reliable IMO. I have one not a lick of trouble. Just dont let it over heat and watch the little belt on the water pump on the right side of the motor (back)
great car..i have a 2003 with 55,000 miles on it...the minus though is the paint on the radio butons scrape off very easily..that should not happen on a $50,000 car
@hcs4life21 All the 1998-03 STS/SLSs that I've seen have HIDs, I think they're great, but I also think it was only standard because Cadillac was trying to sell this car to people overseas. :)
I have had 7 of these, could be a great car if only it was rear wheel drive, being front wheel drive you would also think GM installed strong front end components,...they didn't, the steering rack is a complete nightmare, it looks like it should be off a VW Golf! Steering rack disintegration is common on these and if you buy a right-hand drive version budget 2000 US Dollars for a new rack! (labour for fitting not included). Bose system is also a let down, speakers and amp break down is common.
@MrZepeda33 This body style and year range never came with a v6. the sls is a little less power then the sts. i believe about 25 hp worth of difference if similar to the eldorados. The newer sts models have a v6 but the seville like this never had a v6. Just a northstar v8
ive been in this car before quite a few times my onlycomplaint is it it sits kinda low and, this is gonan sound stupid but i hate the smell of that leather they used in it...LOL sad but thats me lol i didnt know they made a white interior, thats awesome!
@saabkyle04 That is true If your not on top of maintenance the Northstar engine will consume oil like crazy, blow head gaskets, overheated and will only last about 100,000 miles, before you have to spend $4,000 to rebuild the engine.
haha my buddy has one of these and we were gonna replace his struts on it, when we went to go buy them, we found out that it was gonna run him around $4,000 for all 4, when we saw how much it was gonna be, we decided to never buy a Cadillac again, they are nice cars but the maintenance on them are way too expensive lol
@hu0189743 dunno why 97 would be on there.....but you can tell its not a 97,while the outside of a 97 is similar enough to the 01,the interior centerstack is diffrent, diffrent shifter, diffrent gauge cluster, and a diffrent 4 Spoke wheel design.
I also have full diagnostic equipment so if you get a problem give me a shout. I also have a friend who runs one of the best American car repair/restoration operations in the UK (in Bicester) who also has state of the art diagnostic and programming equipment.
***** FWD is still better for snow and winter conditions. You can still lose traction with any RWD car or truck in snow and rain. FWD is much more prefered even with many european cars today. RWD is RWD and is just the characteristic of it where you can loose control very easily. FWD is much better.
+See Bee What makes for an unpleasant driving experience is spinning out of control in a RWD car. I wouldn't like the car as much if it was RWD. Being nose heavy is not a bad thing. They hold the road better and you will not spin out of control as you would in a RWD car. FWD handle better too. I have driven both types of cars and FWD is much better. And FWD is still the way to go in snow and ice. No RWD car is good for winter driving.
***** People will complain about anything and everything doesn't matter what it is. FWD is great and is what set Cadillac apart from the rest. I prefer FWD a lot more myself.
Are there any well known technical problems for this generation of Cadillac Seville STS as I was planning to buy 2004 Cadillac Sevile STS / SLS from USA and ship it to Canada, please reply to me in a private message.
@xspettacolare 1st, it's Cadillac, not "Cadiolac", and if this car had anything over the rivals from Japan or Germany, it was power. More than the comparable E 430 or GS of the era.
These cars are outright Beatiuful. To bad these are rare around me. Theres a mechanic special STS for $900 that's for sale now. I want it so bad but I just don't have that kind of time now.
Electronic problems are common too but alot of that stems from poor servicing/maintenance by owners, these cars rely totally on computer and sensors communicating 100% accurately, mess with any of this and you will get warning messages on the driver information centre.
@saabkyle04 have a cousin that brought a 97{cheap} with 122,000 on it, after about a month or so it started to smoke alot and used alot of oil it needed a expensive engine rebuild lucky it was before Cash for clunkers ended so he traded it in. Also my Aunt has one {03} and has had alot of issue shes getting tired of it and will likely get rid of it soon.
strait up g ride my bros got 98 sts all black pretty beat up hes putting in a lot money something with da cooling hose from da radiator its always overheating pull over wait 4 it to cool down.im 16 but in bout 4,5 years I want to get 1 exactly I like body design of it longandshit do u know if they make replicas 98stscaddi I know its gonna be hard tryn 2 find an origanl
@SkootWilliams94 thats hella cheap for an '01 model then lol unless it was rolled or had a crazy accident, decent '01 can go for upward of $5000 U.S. depending on condition and miles on the car
Anyone else watching this in 2021 and getting flashbacks when he tunes the radio and hear the songs from 10 years ago?!
Man, I love the sound of that start up and the Northstar engine :)
I just bought my grandmas, and I was just telling my parents the same! So many good memories in that car, and it sounds and rides like a dream!
My dad used to have one but a 1996 man do I miss this car so many memories im thinking about getting one myself.
get a 2002 to 04 they they are the most stylus years!
Brad Sarginson 1993-1997 was sexy too man idk about that
My dad used to have '98. I miss that car i want one as well.
I just bought a 03" STS Diamond White with every option even the Nav unit. I pretty happy with it. Rides like a dream in True Cadillac Fashion. Great video as always Kyle! I've always enjoyed those Cadillacs!
4.6 Northstar V8 are the best engines GM has ever made. They sound so freaking awesome to me.
they are.. its just to bad back from 98 99 200 the northdtars had the bad head gastets like ..almost every car back at that time.. i have an 01 sts now b4 i had a 2001 buick regal gs just as fast but crappier suspension

Do you happen tho know if the 1998 and the 2001 are similar? I'm looking into buying a 1998 for my first car.

In France they are cheap 7000$~ but I heard the reliability isn't great :/
And we have only 5-6 Cadillac dealership :/
tdugamer that's to much for the car to be over 10 years old
tdugamer In Spain there is one selling by 3.500 €, 60.000 km, year 2001.
tdugamer Yes, the reliability is very bad
You can pick one up here in Wisconsin for $2100
tdugamer actually the reliability is great. This one has the northstar, tons of power. Take care of IT and it’ll take care of YOU..
1999 Cadillac sts
If you are looking at the awesome exhaust tips, you are absolutely wrong as a guage, the 2001 also had these. Know what you're talking about first.
the 1998-2004 Cadillac SeVille STS was assembled in
Hamtramck, Michigan, United States
ive been in this car before quite a few times
my onlycomplaint is it it sits kinda low and, this is gonan sound stupid but i hate the smell of that leather they used in it...LOL sad but thats me lol
i didnt know they made a white interior, thats awesome!
I notice the Gauges don't sweep on Startup like the 2000 STS you did.
Only $1997, or is it a 97model. Still, great price for a '01 caddy. Nice vid!!
I hAVE 1999, great car.
@sths0609
oh right thanks, I wasn't looking at it properly.
1997 dollar ? omg im gonna buy it :D
@saabkyle04 That is true If your not on top of maintenance the Northstar engine will consume oil like crazy, blow head gaskets, overheated and will only last about 100,000 miles, before you have to spend $4,000 to rebuild the engine.
Before there was a Chrysler 300, this was a poor pimps dream car
I really like Cadillacs but i hate that daft bong noise it makes when you put the key in the ignition. :O
@Ragref it iz a nice car im goin 2 buy one to travel in
Do the tan 3series in the behind the STS
@riederernicholas95 No. The Caddy that zigs is the Catera.
@Forgoten214 how about dark blue. i think ill get one in dark blue for my first car.
would the repkacement relays on my cadillac seville 2003 have to be a specific brand.
haha my buddy has one of these and we were gonna replace his struts on it, when we went to go buy them, we found out that it was gonna run him around $4,000 for all 4, when we saw how much it was gonna be, we decided to never buy a Cadillac again, they are nice cars but the maintenance on them are way too expensive lol
I’m getting one I need reviews
I think i am in love.
I also have full diagnostic equipment so if you get a problem give me a shout. I also have a friend who runs one of the best American car repair/restoration operations in the UK (in Bicester) who also has state of the art diagnostic and programming equipment.
It still looks good for a 10 year old vehicle
Nice car but I hate that Cadillac made such huge cars as front wheel drives, they would have been so much better as rear wheel drives as standard.
+MrWati25 What is so bad about FWD???? I find FWD to be more stable, handle better and hold the road better than RWD.
Considering Cadillac built FWD cars from 1967-2011, I really don't see what the problem is...
***** People will complain about anything and everything doesn't matter what it is. FWD is great and is what set Cadillac apart from the rest. I prefer FWD a lot more myself.
@snaginlol I find that hard 2 believe! Probably is a great performer but its whoppingly reliable?!
Are there any well known technical problems for this generation of Cadillac Seville STS as I was planning to buy 2004 Cadillac Sevile STS / SLS from USA and ship it to Canada, please reply to me in a private message.
THE CHIME IS SO LOUD
gotta make sure grandma can hear them lol
@@artvandelayimports 😂😂😂
i like! A LOT!
Silvio Dante
I was thinking that too.
Paulie had an older one too.
Yeah when they whack Mikey Palmice.
M Caporegime my moms Chrysler is very reliable unlike these cars
Trevor Hand What Chrysler is that?
How come some cars have dual exhaust systems on them?
0:58 nice.
Where can this car be found?
Electronic problems are common too but alot of that stems from poor servicing/maintenance by owners, these cars rely totally on computer and sensors communicating 100% accurately, mess with any of this and you will get warning messages on the driver information centre.
That's 7997 on window and not 1997 as incorrect year. Its a 2001.
martin breeden that’s the asking price Lol
@@Underappreciatedclassics echo......echo....
I have the same model
Same here. :)
I've always disliked the LOUD GM bong. It drowns out their great V8 engines.
Chris Capaccio bong?
strait up g ride my bros got 98 sts all black pretty beat up hes putting in a lot money something with da cooling hose from da radiator its always overheating pull over wait 4 it to cool down.im 16 but in bout 4,5 years I want to get 1 exactly I like body design of it longandshit do u know if they make replicas 98stscaddi I know its gonna be hard tryn 2 find an origanl
Could anyone tell me where I can buy one of these in good condition for cheap in south ga ...I'f so please reply and tell me
Thank U
Why does the window sticker read 1997?
I like this generations sts styling but the back looks kind of goofy I prefer the first gens low profile back end better.
Definitely not a 97. It's a price tag that says "7997" which is overpriced, I think. I prefer 4th generation anyway.
@TheMattstermind Thanks alot man. It really helps!
classic
@SkootWilliams94 thats hella cheap for an '01 model then lol unless it was rolled or had a crazy accident, decent '01 can go for upward of $5000 U.S. depending on condition and miles on the car
It's weird but mine is the exact same color inside and out
Makes a pleasant change from the usual Germans. M.
