This just makes me wonder why tracks like Maple Treeway and the Electrodrome haven't showed up as levels in a 3D Mario game, they would be SO MUCH FUN to explore!
there is a glitch you can do where you can explore the bottom of maple treeway by slowly braking and falling off the edge, and bypassing the out of bounds plain, and you can actually explore a good portion of it too
If you ever do another one of these, you gotta try Big Blue. It has perhaps the largest and most insanely detailed background of any track in the game.
I can't believe how much detail these tracks have. You literally race on this tiny track yet they put a massive city with individual houses, streets, trees and even moving cars and trains where you can't even see them.
I’m fascinated by things like this, but one of the best games with these kinds of robust backgrounds is Splatoon. One of the backgrounds has an entire fleshed out city with moving cars that you can only see the tops of the buildings in-game.
I'm sad now that you didn't show the Koopa Troopa Beach(N64) in Sunshine Airport😢 you can see the stone Koopa in the background, next to those islands as a Easter Egg. I was curious how it would look like driving next to it. But fun video regardless!
I saw some annoying person who doesn't even know how to play Mario Kart post the same mod video but didn't even tell us who made the mod, of course Mayro already did a video of it before him so I knew it was him. GREAT VIDEO AS ALWAYS!
The craziest and most op skips can be done without lakitu because trying to skip or falling off the map in Mario kart makes lakitu come with his rod and take you back up
Right?! I was just thinking about how sick a full game of Mario Kart battle mode would be, with big levels and more players and crazier weapons (and probably special character-specific items like they had in Double Dash)! Maybe it could be something along the lines of those old Twisted Metal games on PS1/2
Lakitu is the referee that has appeared in every Mario Kart game since the series inception. In the instruction guide for Super Mario Kart, Lakitu introduced players to the world of Mario Kart, showing them different features of the game.
Not only can you not access them, you can't even SEE a lot of that stuff! There's a level of detail there that they must have known wouldn't be seen by 99.9% of players since a lot of those small additions would surely be smaller than a pixel from track height. I guess those graphics people must really love their job (I guess I would be too if I got to work on Mario Kart)
Honestly, I can't even put into words how amazingly detailed all of these tracks are, like they really make you feel like you're just racing on a tiny part of land, but they really went above and beyond, like I don't even know if you can see that sign in baby park that says how much you have to pay to get something, or the cars and toad houses in N64 rainbow road, or the character houses in mario kart stadium. I also know that Mute city has like, an entirely different F-Zero track in the background, a desert called fire field, and I don't even think it's that noticeable. It's absolutely nuts.
14:15 Yes. Sometimes in the GameCube Animal Crossing, Tortimer (the mayor) will take a vacation, and will need the player to turn on the lighthouse light by going inside every day for a set amount of time. Doing it on all the days grants you a special reward.
I remember in mario kart 64 i used to visit the area in peaches castle instead of race cause it looked like the mario 64 one and me as a kid thought it was cool and would just explore the background instead
They remade baby park and put it on Mario Kart Tour and it’s exactly the same as Mario Kart 8 Deluxe’s Baby Park because it has all the details from Mario Kart 8 Deluxe.
Despite Nathaniel being very nostalgic for Mario Kart 64, he did not go to Koopa Rock which is on Koopa Troopa Beach which is in Mario Kart 64. Stage is Sunshine Airport and is one of the background islands.
The amount of detail in these tracks is so cool, didn't know some of these details existed. The fact that Waluigi's attraction in Water Park is driveable is so cool!
*drives straight up the side of a building, then a up a mountain into space* BIG RIGS OVER THE ROAD Kart. Also, it's pretty wild that they went to the lengths to put collision on objects you don't even see during normal gameplay.
So the "City" in N64 Rainbow Road has lots of white houses with red roofs, some trees, castle walls and a "tunnel" through a mountain... It's the beta MK64 track: Town :0
3:12 There's Paper Mario characters here. I don't know why they put so much effort into something we can't see. 10:47 I'm surprised how well you lined that up. 13:47 Is that the Breath of the Wild Glider?
Well that are some great details. I'm always surprised what developers program that's never been able to be seen ny anyone normally. Maybe now it might be a bit easier to located the tracks to each other on a big map.
That booter pass was a total waste of money. Every time I play online, people vote against the new tracks and you rarely get to play them. People who didn't buy the booster pass should not be allowed to be in the same lobbies as those of us who paid for it.
Imagine multiplayer with this where you just get to explore the worlds and play hide and seek - voice interactions would basically make it a meta verse
I know you mentioned a NASCAR-like Mario Kart, but you can sorta already do that. Load up Baby Park, 50cc for speed-size scale (3 laps on 200 would be too quick) and just for chaos, bananas only.
most people: “macarons” nathaniel, a man of culture: “third party oreos” (to be fair, the texture is mediocre enough that i also thought they could be Very Off ice cream sandwiches lol)
so, Nintengo goes through the effort to move cars that are not seen, or barely seen, during gameplay, but yet they couldn’t bother moving 2 cars in coconut mall
I once rode Space Mountain at Disney World and the lights were on for some reason instead of everything being pitch black. It was weird because you could see everything you're normally not supposed to be able to see. This kind of reminds me of that.
For those wondering, you can play the N64 Rainbow Road track on Gamebanana, but the other tracks have been requested to remain private by the modder.
That’s insane
Nathaniel can you do the craziest skips
aww
Great
YAAAAAAA
crazy how Nintendo put so much detail into things you can barely see.
Baby Park has a lot of details even if it's a very short track
They do put in a lot of detail
Except for the mario kart 8 dlc
@Jedistache Yea they did get lazy, haha
I love that the plane says "boomerang bro airlines" even though from the race track there is almost no way you're going to be able to read it.

FALC, good to see ya buddy!
Hey falcon
If you ever do another one of these, you gotta try Big Blue. It has perhaps the largest and most insanely detailed background of any track in the game.
It’s crazy that that map can run in 60FPS
He should try Battle Stadium and all of the other battle stages too
And he should go into the Wii U Mario Circuit, Cloudtop Cruise, Shy Guy Falls, Toad's Turnpike, and Dolphin Shoals backgrounds too
I can't believe how much detail these tracks have. You literally race on this tiny track yet they put a massive city with individual houses, streets, trees and even moving cars and trains where you can't even see them.
21:22 That's just a normal ship, not the Daisy Cruiser. The Daisy Cruiser is in Yoshi Circuit and it looks different.
Step 1: Remove Lakitu
Step 2: Add Textures and collision
Step 3: Remove unwanted Collison
Step 4: Hide and Seek
Optional Step 5: Make Rainbow city a course.
One issue: the minimap.
The Mario Kart Wii Modding Community managed to remove it so its possible
I see Rainbow City as a battle track
More like mushroom city
I’m fascinated by things like this, but one of the best games with these kinds of robust backgrounds is Splatoon. One of the backgrounds has an entire fleshed out city with moving cars that you can only see the tops of the buildings in-game.
This really makes me want to have an open world Mario Kart game!

Mario kart home circuit
I think this is the closest we're going to get to a new Diddy Kong Racing story mode.
Lmao I agree

This is insane but I really do wonder how GBA Ribbon Road would work with this.

I know Mario Kart 8 would be a lot more forgiving with exploration in that case lol

Imagine paying for the DLC to get Choco mountain
Well heck yeah your gonna have to pay the dlc if you don’t want your switch to be bricked
actually i watched red falcon's vids on these and apparently a lot of the collision was added in by thee modder to allow you to explore more of it

The craziest and most op skips can be done without lakitu because trying to skip or falling off the map in Mario kart makes lakitu come with his rod and take you back up
no way, he does that?
If we removed Lakitu how would we know when the race starts? It wouldn’t be Mario Kart it would be just “Kart”
Just because lakitu is gone, does not mean mario is removed from the roster
So it’s still Mario kart, just without boundaries
Are you playing as Mario from Mario 64? Edit: You play as all of them.
I was using an N64 character mod pack for fun!

In this video we're BREAKING the BOUNDERIES!
Why does that sound familiar....?
Oh....yeah! That's right!
It's boundary break!
Yeah I seen something like this before
It sounds familiar because some other youtuber did this before NB.
this just goes to show how much effort Nintendo put into these tracks
10:41 - when the out of bounds textures still beat the DLC textures
Nintendo could've given some of these areas more collision and detail and made them into pretty decent battle courses
Right?! I was just thinking about how sick a full game of Mario Kart battle mode would be, with big levels and more players and crazier weapons (and probably special character-specific items like they had in Double Dash)! 11:46 take a shot every time he says: “baby pink gold peach!”

The fact that they made Waluigi’s Seabed flat like they knew people would hack the game and drive on it 😌
It’s flat because it’s less tris…
No other reasons…
Nintendo spent more effort on the background models than the actual track
When he called Macarons "third party Oreos" LMAO

You should definitely do hide and seek with this mod. That would be so cool.
