Two similar yet different midfielders. Frank was the better goalscorer while Stevie was the better all around footballer. If i had to pick one of them in their prime to be in my team, I'd probably pick Gerrard.
There has never been a more complete player in the history of football than Stevie. I have a giggle with the comparisons myself. Bar the similarity between their superb long-range strikes, fundamentally, they were very different players. I think Lamps like Scholes was superb in the top third of the pitch. He had slightly better close ball control than Gerrard. Lampard, was also subtle and he was the sort of guy who could just creep up out of nowhere. Whereas Gerrard tended to thunder around. Lamps was totally decent in other aspects of midfield play, but as an allround midfielder oozing quality at every stage of the pitch, Gerrard was easily the faster, stronger, meaner, tougher, box to box player who also dominanted in the air. As you say, he was the natural leader of the two. They were both exceptional passers of the ball with little separating them and they were both very intelligent players who created bucket loads of space for their strikers. I'd choose Gerrard tactically; because, of his versatility more often than Lampard. 4:09 the interviewer bust out laughing when Gerrard said “John Terry would’ve knicked a few”..Gerrard was talking football but the interviewer immediately thought of Wayne Bridge haha
Paul Scholes was a decent player but you're fooling yourself if you think he was better than Gerrard and Lampard. Lampard was a Ronaldinho away from being the best player and Gerrard came 3rd the following season. Scholes never got in the top 3. He also had to retire to make way for Lampard, who had clearly more ability to influence the game more than Scholes. Gerrard and Lampard made a career out of scoring goals from midfield. They were more effective for their respective teams than Scholes was for Man Utd. Go on, hit me with your abuses.
Lampard was an unbelieveable midfielder for Chelsea without a doubt.. but gerrard is a complete midfielder.. Liam lmao as a united fan it's obviously john terry plus either way it's still hard to compare the two even though there both centre back because one is an all round centre back and probably has the best positioning of any centre back and the other is a hard tackler probably the best English tackler ever but I would say john terry lacked the intelligence
For some odd reason, I always felt they look like brothers from another mother & have known each other since they've met each other but they've always been professional and respectful instead of personal friends.
Nice to see a fellow soccer fan, not some partisan rant. Let me say, I am a Liverpool fan but I was a huge Scholes and Lampard admirer, wonderful footballers. I think Scholes and Lampard were more similar in style and skill to each other than Gerrard with either of them. Hence, comparisons with all three are bloody silly. Sadly, if all you do is look at their goals on highlight reels people wind up thinking they were all alike and played similar roles. As said this somewhat incorrect. Please, I am not lecturing you Yen... just the troll who decides to crash our mutual respect love in. Gerrard is a fundamentally different player to both. Unlike Lamps and Scholes who relied on their defensive midfield cover to let them create up front, Gerrard was alternating between attacking and defensive mid-field roles a lot of the time and doing so numerous times in any given game. He was; thus, your classic box to box midfielder, "the Engine," as Zidane called him. He could play practically any role on the pitch and play to a highly competitive level. While probably not quite as good in terms of close control as Lampard or Scholes on a consistent basis, he was technically sound, and he was certainly stronger, faster, fitter, a better defender, and more dominant in the air than both. He was also more comfortable as a leader. We have to remember, a lot of goals scored by Scholes and Lampard for England, were often created via Gerrards graft back in the trenches. I think Scoles and Lampard while good in the middle of the pitch and hard working. They fulfilled a niche for attacking mid-field play, while Gerrard really was the whole cake.
Very sad interview for Gerrard knowing that Lampard wins on almost all categories 😂 The fact that Stevie knows all of Lampard stats means he spent a long time trying to catch up lol
The two have obvious respect for each other and you can tell they follow each other career closely either to make a comparison or trying to best each other thats a healthy rivalry there not much for england tho
Gerrard could do everything and was great at it all. Reason why i rate him as the best midfielder the prem has seen was because of this. I know lampard got more goals and assists but that was because he was always in a team of great players which allowed him the freedom of constantly staying in the attacking midfield role. Whereas gerrard was used in CM CAM and even on the right, he also did alot of tracking back and carrying the rest of the team in a lot of games. Just imagine if liverpool had bought better players to surround him. He’d of absolutely dominated everything

Scholes was the complete box to box midfielder. Zidane's only regret was that he said he didn't play with Scholes.
Stats are a good indication though. You can argue that Gerrard played in a worse team so his goals and assists will be lower. But on the flipside, his defensive side was more evident because he had to do more of it. Lampard was just as good a big game player as Gerrard. Scholes wasn't as good as either in that respect. Lampard was less error prone than both and more disciplined. Gerrard may have been a better athlete with an edge on pace and strength. At the end of the day they were all different types of midfielder. The crime is that all 3 couldn't have formed a midfield for England. Just needed a manager with the balls to do it.

AusSpurs I totally agree, that "golden generation" was so good and individually talented, it really is incredible a squad of that calibre failed to win anything. I think we could put up valid reason for all three being better than the others which shows how quality they all were. Another quality player which goes under the radar a lot is Michael Carrick, he did the dirty work very well and possibly came through at the wrong time. (Not saying he's as good as the previously mentioned three though).
Gerrard and Lampard are the reason why England's Golden generation failed in big tournaments. That was incredibly stupid for not selecting a player who is of the calibre of Xavi and Pirlo.Lampard and Gerrard don't control the midfield like Scholes.
Gerrrard played lot of his career at right back and then defensive midfield, he also played less Premier league games than Frank lampard... But according to me, he can be just as good a goalscorer as Frank lampard and definitely a better playmaker like when he was playing N10 behind torres... The thing is that he has a phenomenonal passing range, working rate therefore he can play almost anywhere on the pitch, very versatile.... He could always influence games, if sometimes not with his overall play with him being the complete midfielder then with his leadership and pushing other players to be better, pushing a poor Liverpool team to win the champions league, pushing a liverpool with dosena to with against united... He's captain fantastic and a very humble guy, great leader, lead with example... He always considered it his luck and good fortune to wear the red shirt and be captain... Players like pogba and xhaka won't ever realise the greatness of Frank and Steve, they are out of their league
Anti Left Scholes 😂 the most overrated player. Reputation came from quotes by Xavi and Zidane that didn't have a single first hand evidence and quotes from players and managers that are/were affliated to Man Utd which makes it invalid.
Never was a fan of lampard when playing for Chelsea However him and Stevie both top blokes and true professionals. P.s Stevie was far superior on the pitch
Lamps is the one you'd put.money on to score if the ball rolled out outside the edge of the box. Gerrard was better defensively and made beautiful long balls
gerrard made bad players look good , if he would decide to swap for real madrid today everybody would say oh what a player he was or when mourinho wanted him in chelsea did you ever wonder why :P lol both players where great whats the point to discuss who was the better , in each persons eyes better its different i mean somebody will appreciate more the player that can defend and attack some other want only the attack it's a debate that no one will ever find an answer
Reason everyone thought they couldn't work was 4-4 shitting 2 with scholes on left. Play a three with Scholes at the base or a diamond with Becks in at CM and Lamps at ten we'd have been laughing

I think we could put up valid reason for all three being better than the others which shows how quality they all were. Another quality player which goes under the radar a lot is Michael Carrick, he did the dirty work very well and possibly came through at the wrong time. (Not saying he's as good as the previously mentioned three though).
I like how he leagued when he said John terry knicked a few like he was thinking Wayne bridge in his head right there
scholes wasn't a patch on either of these, couldn't get in the england squad ahead of them
He was always in the England squad you idiot
You're right. When he retired from international duties, he wasn't in the squad
Gerrard and Lampard are the reason why England's Golden generation failed in big tournaments. That was incredibly stupid for not selecting a player who is of the calibre of Xavi and Pirlo.Lampard and Gerrard don't control the midfield like Scholes.
Yet xavi said scholes was one of his idols?
Players like pogba and xhaka won't ever realise the greatness of Frank and Steve, they are out of their league
anyone who watched football from 2004 - 2009 would know gerrard was the best midfielder in the world at the time
You mean Xavi
richie j Scholes or Xavi IMO have the edge but Gerrard is in the convo
Yup, was very good defensively which people don't seem to appreciate
Anti Left
Scholes 😂 the most overrated player. Reputation came from quotes by Xavi and Zidane that didn't have a single first hand evidence and quotes from players and managers that are/were affliated to Man Utd which makes it invalid.
Wasn't Lampard voted 3rs best player in the world?
Foram dois jogadores extremamente elegantes, os dois com ótimo arremate e muita força e potência. Amanzing
stevie g is the oracle
These guys were the best because of their brains and hearts.
Gerrard 🔥🔥🔥🔥
Both are legendary player
Never was a fan of lampard when playing for Chelsea However him and Stevie both top blokes and true professionals. P.s Stevie was far superior on the pitch
Anyone feel uncomfortable when they shake hands? Fucking 2020 making me nervous about a handshake 😂😂
Gerrard knows lampard well because he always admire to had career like lampard hahahahahha
you're an idiot
Lamps is the one you'd put.money on to score if the ball rolled out outside the edge of the box. Gerrard was better defensively and made beautiful long balls
Lampared best of the best the blue
'Thank you. Cheers. Thank you. Appreciate it. Thank you. Nice to meet you. Cheers. Thank you.' - Frank Lampard, 2017
Steven Alf Gerrard 😂😂
You dont have to compare these two legends ⚽
Gerrard could do everything... Lampard only attacking, one clear winner
go back and watch Franks defensive skills, very underrated
mtmb73 100% correct mate
yup gerrard could do everything, including assists to his opponent
Both fantastic. Lampard played in an Alli role so of course he scored/assisted more but he also had less defending to do.
Gordon Wong Lampard has more assists you donkey
In the ending the way Frank was telling thank you and bye felt like as if he wanted the interviewer to be gone 😅😅
Fam stop laughing after everything it’s cringe
Love them both especially out of the box goals
gerrard made bad players look good , if he would decide to swap for real madrid today everybody would say oh what a player he was or when mourinho wanted him in chelsea did you ever wonder why :P lol both players where great whats the point to discuss who was the better , in each persons eyes better its different i mean somebody will appreciate more the player that can defend and attack some other want only the attack it's a debate that no one will ever find an answer
I think we will talk about these two for years, best player, best manager...
lampard.is best
Reason everyone thought they couldn't work was 4-4 shitting 2 with scholes on left. Play a three with Scholes at the base or a diamond with Becks in at CM and Lamps at ten we'd have been laughing
