Cheers, Matthew. I'm really enjoying your videos. You inspired me to bike-pack Norway myself. I'm in Oslo now prepping for my trip next week with a bike from Fara. Thanks for all the great content!
I did Geiranger - Hellesylt - Norangsdalen - Volda one nice day in June 1990 on a bike and I can still vividly remember that late evening with fog and a bit of rain in Norangsdalen. It was pure magic on a bike. I still vividly remember it. That even after tens of thousands of kilometers on a bike. It is one of the roads on this planet you have to do on a bike. It is the best bike road in Norway. The road is scary as heck too.... Those vertical mountain walls were close. Scary close.
That last little clip was Matthew adding power to the battery of the hurtigruten ship 😉😂 Saw this on my phone 10 deays ago, but it was so good, I had to see it again on a big screen.. 👍😊
I cannot believe @MatthewNorway cycled through my beautiful home village of Sykkylven and the only footage is of his boots inside the ferry over to Magerholm 😭Of course, Norangsdalen is a tough act to follow. As always a great watch!
I’m not into bicycle myself, but I’m a passionate motorcyclist and have a huge interest/passion for video and videography. Living in Norway myself, i have to say. You have a really great way of telling your story with your hobbies. The way you narrate and compliment it with the different views. Really well done. I see there is a huge benefit of having one or more with you to help capture. Great work mate. Truly inspiring. Thank you 👏🏻
Hey Matthew! I‘m really enjoying watching your videos about this marvellous country. This video made me take a detour on our trip and drive through Norangdalen! What a great valley (even though I was in a car and not on a bike…)! This place is scoring very high on my list of beautiful places!!! Thanks for sharing your experiences and stories in excellent videos! Greetings from Germany!
I M P R E S S I V E! And yet another route, I, a travelling, exploring Norwegian, never have ventured... :D Thank you #MatthewNorway for yet another incredible piece of art 😁
@@matthewnorway If I get my car up and running till I'm going south, I might do that, if not it has to wait till next year. Going to Barcelona in late October and working before that ... :) And 🤬🤬🤬🤬😆😆YT, for delivering me a notice 7 days late👍👍
Good joke at the end 😀! I just came back from my first and incredible journey in Norway. Now your video make me want to come back as soon as possible and experience this road and many others as well. Next year for sure! My approach to the tunnels (as well as very loud roads) was finally to use earplugs. I found out the about min 60% of the stress comes from the deafening noise. And to know about traffic coming from behind my Garmin Varia was a game changer. Matthew, your bag setup has changed completely. Is it mainly due to your sponsor or were you also tired of using a backpack? And I guess you don't have to carry all of your gear by yourself now, right?
Again…What a beautiful film, dream bike trip and spectacular place Matthew ! Saw it with friends in Switzerland and I wish all Switzerland should see it or experience it….😃Thanks for sharing ! 🙏🏻👌🏼🤩
Norangsdalen is joyous. I stayed at knutegarden and the wonderful host took us to the valley where she goes to write music and poetry near a waterfall. I’m not artistic, but cycling there will be as poetic as it gets-so I’m planning to go back. That waterfall formation sure rocked, eh? 😆 Thanks again for sharing your experiences with us, Matthew! I watched with my wife and it brought us wonderful memories.
Stunning scenery, superb cycling! I'm down here in Australia and it just makes me want to throw gravel bike and bags into a bike box and book a flight to Norway!!
Ah, the Festøya - Solavågen ferry route. I have no idea how many times I've been just too late to one ferry and have had to wait for the next, there... Hellesylt isn't a town. It barely counts as a village. The view up high is pretty nice, though. The last time I was there was back when they finished the tunnel you rode through, so a few years ago.
Once again, another epic video! Thanks for all the work, time, effort and passion doing this. I always thought to cycling in Norway, but now I know I'm going to cycling one day to Norway. Thanks
Honestly, it seems you are cycling over the desk top. Those seems you unreal places. It is so beautiful that my mind find difficulty to process their beauty ❤❤. Thanks a lot for hard work and sharing.
The better way to experience it is on feet. Then your brain is not mainly occupied with effort and can fully enjoy the beauty. You should try. Ex. Criss cross Hardangervidde with just a backpack and a stick. No more than 15 km a day, from hut to hut.
Was the old road circumventing around the tunnel after Hellesylt closed? A little later in the season there is a really old "road" or rather postal route that goes over the mountain after the first tunnel, at the view point. You can hike it or just hike up on top to get an amazing view of the Geiranger fjord. I but you with your lightweight bike and no luggage could carry your bike and avoid the last and longest tunnel. You could also take the ferry directly from the point in Hjørundfjorden you cycled more "inland" around the mountain and to Urke, saving a few kilometers and time.
@@matthewnorway The postal road should be "semi flat" and passable as it back in the days were build to be passable for horses. It haven't been maintained for well, over a 100 years, so the condition might be a little worse today 🙃
The far east is great for long gravel routes and 'real' bikepacking adventures. My Norway in one day video covers some of this, and I have a few other adventures yet to be produced that are in the area.
4:08 the Hjørundfjord was started 2.6 mill years ago !? You are dead wrong here, proves you are not a geologist. There were heavy tectonic forces working on Norway because of the collision of Greenland with Scandinavia ("Baltica") and subsequent retreat from at least 430 mill years ago, probably the most heavy work was done 405-380 mill years ago. Undoubtedly great faults ripped the land apart, great rivers ( Norway was at the equator at the time ) filled the valleys and eroded them. Later the sea water flushed into the lower lying valleys and made the fjords. The ice ages had an influence, yes, but the main creator of the landscape was not the quaternary ice ages, but the imense tectonic forces about 400 million years back in the Devonian geologic age.
another epic adventure!!💪🤌
After I watch these series of episodes, I'm going to go back and watch them all again. There's just so much to see and observe.

Sorry, my gopro batteries were dead, and my phone was on 3%. But I agree, Sykkylven was a nice place to cycle through. Next time, I'll save a battery!
@@matthewnorway No worries mate! Looking forward to your next adventure :D
wow ... what a journey, incredible history at the hotel. Cant think of a better way to experience it than my bike.

Oh, and so considerate of Hurtigruten to have exercise bikes for RUclipsrs who don't want to stop cycling!

I really love your coastel tours, but I really curious, what you make out of the eastern part, especially Femunden, Røros or Rv 705😀

Great roads but have I seen these videos earlier?
1 minute of this footage is in an earlier video I did about my channel returning.
Mr. You teach norwegians to. Thanks .
"Norway will feel you alive"🚴
Always wear a helmet ! 😆....Holy s**t that was special!
