Working with Banana Fibers

  • After cutting back the bananas I thought it would be a good idea to see if I can extract the fibers and I take you through steps taken to do this - I am still working without a machine to extract the fibers. It is a bit more involved to process so you just have to do what you can working with the banana fibers.

      Thank you, though there are others who are more experienced - I am still learning. If you have banana fibers you need to go to the places that people purchase from, maybe Amazon or your local markets - you will have to do some research to find out - good luck.

      Me too! I brought some from the store and it was lovely to spin so if I can harvest my own fibers will be great.

    do u have a video on how to make the banana fiber into hair, and how to soften the fiber as a smooth strands to make a hair wig.?

      No it is not something that I have tried, but would be interested to see if you are successful - try Mr Google..

    Can I ask for how long did you boil it?

      I boiled them for about 40 minutes give or take. You might need to boil them for a bit longer, I am hoping to do the whole thing again from the start as I didn't get any fibers.

      @@mandelalago4371 I didn't use a machine, I did it all by hand, I need to try it again though as I didn't get the fibers I had wanted to.

    what kind of banana?

      Not sure of the variety we have, but you can extract the fibers from all bananas.
