The next couple of generations might not even know what a newspaper is! Actually, I changed my mind. Newspapers survived radio & TV, so they'll probably still be around, until we can download the daily news directly into our brains (ala the Matrix).
@@Illyriad You're probably right, but there's _something_ about touching real paper which makes it appealing (like real books), even if it's an objectively less efficient way to gather information. Plus one can make a Millwall Brick out of a newspaper (a dangerous improvised weapon that seems perfectly innocent) - you can't do fun stuff like that with a mobile!
I think in the original script Jack (Harry Styles character) was supposed to be way more angry, manipulative, and abusive. Not the toned down version in the film. There was also more signs about Alice having a different life. Like whenever she would wash her hands, she would wash them really throughly like a surgeon and stuff like that.
that's probably why Olivia was dicksucking so hard about Shia being in the film. I wonder if they had cast accordingly (Not shia but someone who could play that type of character well) how it could have gone.
I think they changed it because Harry is playing him. I love my boy Harry but he should’ve played that version of him. I wish they allowed him to be more complex characters.
This movie reminded me of those story ideas that randomly pop up in my brain when I'm half asleep, and at that time my brain is like "holy shit that's the most groundbreaking idea ever, I got to wake up and write it down because it gonna make me famous", but when I read it the next morning I realise it doesn't make any sense
the actual movie that was written was much better…they rewrote it and it wasn’t a big reveal she found out pretty quickly and then is figuring out how to escape secretly
@@brynniefresh9746 WTF that sounds 10x more interesting and its exactly the idea dylan had for it too why did they sabotage the potential of this movie 😭
It actually makes sense that she notices all those weird things but doesnt do anything cause when you're asleep you don't question anything that happens to you in a dream, you just follow
That's a good interpretation- they probably could have capitalised on this idea a bit more. Like the flashbacks to her real life drawing more parallels to her waking up from a bad dream.
No…dying, flight responses, or shocking events in sleep can easily wake people up…the random visions presented throughout the film are mangled together and don’t work well with the random events that take place in the dream world. It’s poor build up and then the execution dies multiple times when it should have taken place no more than 70% of the way into the film.
I mean it makes sense in a way but I’m just wondering how would she escape since Jack is dead? Because she would wake up tied up and he would be dead next to her. Does it mean she died or she found a way to escape?
@@ivanhenderson31 You gotta realize this wasn’t her choice, she was forced into this and chained down to the bed and she couldn’t move and we can probably assume she was drugged with something to stay in the simulation. There’s also something called sleep paralysis where if you have a bad dream or something you can “wake up” and you’ll just be stuck unable to move, this could also be a possible explanation. Sure the sequences are randomly thrown in with no explanation but that’s the point of it, you aren’t supposed to get an explanation and it’s like you’re living through her life.
Phycological thriller ?. Like honestly I really do like psychological thrillers there fun to watch as they hold you in tension and make you really feel it. This had literally nothing tense or good about it. It felt weird and stiff and it was made up of a lot of problems harry styles being one of those problems. I respect him as a person and as a great guy and good singer but his acting ability just sucks and you can see that. It could have done so much better I swear
@@JaneJn-e5c as a harry stan I gotta agree his acting was mid. jumping from a small part in dunkirk to a major role wasn't the best choice especially since he isn't an actor, he's a singer.

So, I actually read the orignal script by the Van Dyke brothers while I was a Development Intern at a film production company, way before the second rewrite or any stars' attachment. It was messy even then, but it had closure. In the original script, we learn that 'Alice' (name changed from Evelyn) is in the simulation about 3/4's through the script. There were multiple portals around the town that the men could enter back to the real world through. She escapes through one of them, waking in the simulation machine in 2050. She climbs out, walks around the apartment where she discovers that her ex husband 'Jack' (originally Clifford) had kidnapped her and forced her into the machine/simulation. She was actually a famous surgeon, but he faked her death. Clifford then returns home, they fight, she kills him and escapes. The end, lol. It seems the original script was a much more overt critiscim of the horrors of misogyny. Clifford was basically an incel and the simulation was for men who felt emasculated by the women around them being more succesful than them. So, their fantasy was to return to the time where women were 'put in their place as housewives'. Also there was no Chris Pine character or Olivia Wilde's character lol. They went to such lengths in the final film to 'keep you guessing' that no one knew what the fuck was going on by the end lmao
See when they showed them in flashbacks in the real world I thought that was were it's going.. Them splitting and Harry forcing this on her against her will
the real psychological thriller here was watching dylan slowly descend into madness. very entertaining, had me on the edge of my seat. would watch again
Once he said that, my entire opinion and outlook on the film changed. Like, what a sh(t human (apparently), but damn, would his acting and edge have made this film different - perhaps, even better
Shia would play a perfect psychopath because he's definitely got extreme issues and talent. Just don't think it would be fair to his victim. He's in another film right now and it's unfortunate imo.
Very true. As much as I love Harry and am a fan of his music, let's be honest here his acting in the movie was very underwhelming. Shia would've played a better role since admittedly he is talented, but he is a horrible human being.
@@ami8181 he was accused of physically, verbally, and emotionally abusing fka twigs. he later alluded to her in a couple interviews essentially admitting to causing her harm, though never clarifying. he’s directly admitted to cheating on every woman he’s ever been in a relationship with and being aggressive on substances. he seemed to have changed into a better person in the articles i’ve read, but i don’t follow up on him and this might be cherry picked instances of growth
i feel like if the movie started with her being taken to the facility and harry styles screaming in the car, and then the whole movie is her trying to remember what she was trying to solve, and then we get introduced to the world through her eyes from the people gently reminding her of it from her memory loss, which then leads to the plot twist Jack was (something other people have suggested also) some nurse who stalked her, making it creepier...it could actually be a real movie with the material and ideas that they had but chose to make it 'artsy' and lost direction
@@kurtaudiocollagekinda just feels like they focused on the artsy & fancy shots & forgot about the actual plot & then rushed to actually make the movie a movie instead of an aesthetic video lol
The fact that he guessed the plot twist in three different ways throughout this video is both impressive and not shocking at all given how underwhelming the actual twist is
i actually love when dylan legitimately dissects films. like he makes jokes and its funny, but there are also real examination of what went wrong, what could have been done better, what was done right....

@@nila9320as much as i love FSN, i feel like the two men exist on a separate sub-niche when it comes to analysis and dissection. FSN's great, but his perspective's more of a knowledgable audience who's watched enough movies and series to know what's going on. whereas dylan, who afaik also had/has the experience of working on sets, tends to go further in depth with the technical aspects. like FSN may point out that a shot sucks and give some suggestions to make it better, but dylan would actually dive into the practical of _how_ to make it better, if that makes sense? basically am not saying that either of them is better or worse than the other, it's just that if you like dylan's deep dive into filmmaking (even though they're pretty scarce, lol rip) FSN might be entertaining but not quite scratch that itch. unfortunately dylan might be the one and only in this aspect. :/
Sameee. We have every right to laugh because there was no build up to it in anyway. If she would’ve shown like a feeling of being trapped and stared at the wrap for awhile as like a means to escape then we would’ve been attached to the character
it reminded me of something that would be sprinkled into a college sophomore’s post-modern dance piece they choreographed in one semester for a class. it’s just there because it’s there.
I find movies that are being released nowadays are a lot like those girls who go on Tiktok all the time - so focused on being pretty that what they're trying to achieve becomes a hilarious waste of time
Fr I saw my policeman and it was amazing. Olivia and Harry should NOT have been in a relationship during production cuz she changed the WHOLE script THAT WAS ACTUALLY GOOD after she hired him. And didn't even push him to do an American accent ALL BRITISH ACTORS CAN DO ANY AMERICAN ACCENTS 😭 I was so disappointed and I only watched a third of the movie.
I thought like harry styles put his all into his US accent at first (i actually was born and grew up a couple hours away from where he lived in the Uk) and then as like the film went on he was like "Fuck it, they cant kick me off at this point" and literally just gave in lols
What you said about Shia was SO TRUE ! If he was the main actor the quality of this movie would've been so much better bc he would've brought some CRAZY reaction out of Florence.
And Shia is good at doing intense and crazy and angry but also suddenly going soft and sad and vulnerable. You could totally see how he'd do a good job in this type of role. But Harry is like a void.
Yeah… I understand why he wasn’t cast and why they wouldn’t want him on set after the allegations came out. But he would’ve brought something to this film which could’ve been soo good.
The fact that Harry's character is exactly like Hardin amuses me. It's so on-brand and I don't even know that the guy playing Hardin knew this would happen in the future
@@criptideancia The “After series” is basically one direction fan fiction (book-turned into movie) movie following Harry’s dysfunctional love life. Harden is the character from that series
this movie has SO many issues but i think the biggest one is how sanitized harry’s character is. he’s supposed to be abusive, manipulative, controlling, and violent, but they hide all of that and it takes so much away from the movie
He's not supposed to come across as any of those things. If he did, we wouldn't be questioning the main character's sanity. Also, that's the point. One of the messages is that any seemingly normal guy could fall prey to this kind of misogynist cult-like mentality under certain conditions. I think Olivia Wilde alluded to the idea (in an interview) that the film was a criticism of people like Andrew Tate who instill dangerous ideas in vulnerable/impressionable male minds.
@@potatospud9365 you still don't question it though, because they give you absolutely nothing. Whatever you think you are questioning is a projection, because Harry delivered nothing like that, he didn't even give off incel vibes when he was discovered. The meaning and the actual visualization don't match.
@@potatospud9365 the only reason why I understood a bit of what Olivia was trying to do in the film was because I had read her take on jordan peterson, if I hadn't read that, I wouldn't have understood anything which should not be the case. @@70RY I watched and liked a lot how it was shot. Cinematography department did a really good job. Scenery and costumes are also good. Screenplay wise is catastrophic. It is not bad, but in my opinion it could have been so much better.

i am impressed by Dylan being home alone and watching movies with his noise-canceling headphones on for hours and not tiny bit worrying about whether someone has broken into his home
Lolll,I live alone and use noise canceling headphones as well (but to be fair, I live in a tiny apartment in a busy city, and have a seizure disorder - so the noise canceling is necessary)
in a previous video he actually heard some noise and thought someone broke in and yet he decided to not investigate in it and just continued watching the movie😂😂it was hilarious
One thing for sure, Florence carried that whole movie. She really did her best. The monotone in Harry is so real you’ll notice the camera focuses on the other characters more even when he’s delivering his lines (case in point my policeman, Emma carried that whole movie as well) . Nevertheless hollywood has ran out of ideas and i guess this is the truman version for the younger generation who never watched Truman show
Truly, I never realized how close the after series got to real life until the “drama scene” and his yelling really just hit the “fUckiNg trevuh” nail on the head
the movie feels like that high school short film you do where you already had a script but as filming started you wanted to. make changes so you made changes but when crunch time came you realize your original script was better but there's no time to shoot the new missing scenes so you had to make do with what you had by making it look cool with how you edited and compiled everything your team did and only realized after post-production that it was a shitshow.

I think the feelings of watching things in a loop was intentional to reflect how Alice was living in a loop. Things freaked her out but she was so brainwashed to live in this world without questions that she didn't. i just don't understand why EVERY director for thriller/horror movies make their characters so incompetent in order to build suspense. there is no reason for alice to be standing around so long after bunny explicitly tells her they are going to kill her. alice's LIFE has been threatened and yet no fight or flight response kicks in until it is nearly too late. the whole car chase would still be just as suspensful if alice runs away immediately like a rational person would do in that situation. there is no logical reason for alice to be standing around, especially after knowing what she is capable of since she just murdered her husband without a second thought.
I havent seen the movie, just this review but even i know that there are 3 biological responses..not 2. Fight Flight Freeze Its actually very common for people to freeze. It has its uses, but oftentime freezing happens when it shouldnt and works against survival. It is not rational when ur on the outside looking in, its actually frustrating, but for the person experiencing it...its disorienting and takes some time to figure out how to even move. Commonly happens during shootings (in real life). U see people running mostly, but a lot of others freeze in place confused, trying to understand whats happening. It actually takes training to get out of freeze mode to fight/flight.
@@VioletIsBulletproof def true but its also probably just done that way for plot convenience/suspense and not actually because it could be realistic so i think thats why its annoying like its mainly for unnecessary drama. I think in this case with her having been brainwashed (apparently, i also havent actually watched the movie) it could make a bit more sense for her to freeze up but it doesn't feel like it was done that way intentionally as part of the brainwashing it just felt like it was done to give a chance to make extra drama u know
The fact that every sensible person who has seen this movie makes essentially the exact same criticisms is insane. It’s not even a bad movie it’s just not doing what movies are supposed to do and Olivia Wilde expects us to be ok with that. It’s weird
I actually loved it and am now watching critics tear it apart while all I can think of is that they aren't saying anything in particular which would justify them not liking this movie. I think movie critics watch too many films to be able to enjoy it completely. As you say, this movie does not have the same flow as others do but that's why it makes you keep watching. Sure, many things could have been done differently which would have improved it, but those are all just details and it essentially turned out good in the end anyway. (I also think Harry Styles did a good job at acting 🤷♀ Anyone who says he underperformed need to realise that 1: he played alongside known and respected actors/actresses so it was a given that he would be outshone and 2: sure this isn't his first rodeo but he doesn't have years of experience either.)
I think there was a lot of plot lines that could have been better and the ending was so underwhelming. Also The characters weren’t set up enough for the audience to truly care about them.

SPOILER ALERT: One thing I think is the reason she’s not really reacting is because she’s stuck in the simulation, she doesn’t have control. Every time that something unsettling happens, she snaps back. Almost like her brain is fighting but it can’t win. And first time she manages to exit the simulation, Jack puts her back into it.
Yeah and I thought the same about Jack too, or his reactlessness what Dylan was talking about. I think Harry wasn't the right choice for the role either but I thought that since he was living his 'dream' life and was sorta playing this character that he was this shadow of a person, so it would make sense that he's not that reactive
Dylan's reaction to the fucking subtitles popping up for the tenth time was a lot more psychotic than Harry's reaction to Florence accusing him of being psychotic.
God that was a terrible fucking story wtf,,, as a screenwriter I AM OFFENDED at the ending what the actual fuck - once again thank you for watching it for us Dylan. I need to go lie down and process that shit of an ending

florence pugh and the cinematography carried this whole movie. after watching it i understand that the intention was to leave the viewer confused because we were following the story though alice’s eyes. it really doesn’t make any sense while watching it though. also: when olivia wilde told alice to leave now i kept screaming go and it was so aggravating oh my god
I remember reading an article reviewing this movie and the title of the article was “Olivia Wilde chooses Styles over Substance…” And I honestly can’t think of a better way than that to describe the train wreck that is this movie.
AGREED. Like he was playing a character who was sweet, until the truth was out & he showed who he really was. He loved Alice, but he was sick in the head & warped what it meant to love someone. She loved him, which enabled him to keep her quiet & complacent. This movie had many flaws, but I feel like this portrayal was intentional.
Love how Dylan predicts every major revelation and plot twist while making jokes lol. Was really looking forward to this movie, it tried too hard to be like midsommar with the ominous tone going on, the direction and the cinematography but it delivered quite literally nothing. Was left super confused after the movie and that ending just made watching paint dry interesting. Props to Dylan for not losing his mind completely.
Since Dylan is confused about the newspaper: Some people swear by wiping a window down with newspaper after washing it since it apparently stops streaks from forming so you just have a nice clear window.
I lived until 50 without ever hearing this, including living with a grandmother who grew up in the 30s and probably would have known a thing or two about cleaning windows once she got her own house in the 50s, the very same one I grew up in during the 70s and 80s.
You don’t even need windex. You can use vinegar and newspaper. I used to work at a store with large front windows and it was amazing how well it works.
As Dylan said, The Truman Show did the "slowly realizing the loop" already, and it was actually successful. Black Mirror did the "fake reality, where just key people know what's going on" with San Junipero or USS Callister, and the twist actually paid off. USS Callister even has the creepy man that's living the fantasy he can't create for himself in real life, down to the makeover. Even the awful 2004 The Stepford Wives, did the overachiever/robotic housewives-loser husbands, dynamic better. There was literally nothing new to this movie, the only thing they had going for them, was the new cool aesthetic and new performances, and they botched it.
Actually The Stepford Wives was a remake of a 1975 film and The Truman Show was inspired by a late 80s Twiligth Zone episode so yeah, this film didnt offer nothing new but it was acting as if the audience have never saw a film like this before.
You could say “it’s been done before” on so many movies. Think about how many movies there are about war, survival, coming of age, love, etc. Every movie is a bit like another movie. People are just looking for reasons to hate on this movie.

I feel like the movie would’ve been great if shortened to one hour, and if they went with the ending the original script had instead of what they went with, I would’ve enjoyed it so much more. Towards the end of the original it felt like they rushed it and they ran outta room. But In the original script, Alice discovers the truth when she finds a portal to the real world inside a house for sale. She wakes up hooked to an IV and to a machine that puts people into the simulation. Alice unplugs herself, sees she’s in her apartment and in the year 2050. Upon looking around, Alice discovers that Harry Styles' Jack, due to their impending divorce, signed them up for Alt-Life, the equivalent of the Victory Project. Jack had faked her death and forced her into the simulation. Alice re-enters the simulation so as not to raise suspicion, but Jack figures her out and sends her for shock therapy, but it doesn’t work. Alice tricks Jack and then one night forces him to tell her the truth about everything. Eventually, Jack admits that he put them in the simulation because he wanted them to be happy again and that he was angry she had put work before him. Jack tells Alice the location of the exit portal in their house and Alice leaves. However, Jack follows Alice to the present day, and they get into a physical fight resulting in Alice stabbing him with a knife. In the simulation, Bunny finds Jack dead and Alice unconscious. Alice wakes up back in the 1950s in a psychiatric ward, is told she killed Jack and had dreamed the future where she was free. The final scene of the film is Bunny visiting Alice in the psychiatric ward. Bunny reveals to Alice there is an escape portal behind them and leaves. Alice begins to head towards the door and the film ends.
This would have been much much better. I wonder if the changes to the script were made when they lost Shia? Because this script asks a lot more of the Jack performance, which they couldn’t get from Harry. The change might have been made to have the film depend more on Florence (which was the case on the final product)

The original script was so much better than the final product, but Olivia for some reason decided to water the story And harry's character down, he was supposed to be this crazy dude that kidnapped Alice before she could divorce him or something like that, but made him into him just wanting a "better life" for them both, which i think was in part bc of harry's audience, so they could see him as an "ideal man" (which believe it or not, actually worked) Also, in that last scene where Alice walked out of her house and was walking aimlessly, was supposed to be her walking up to that girl that kiIIed herself earlier, but again, for some reason, Olivia decided to cut a lot of her scenes out of the movie, so it just looks dumb, her just walking towards nothing... i think this movie would've been so much better if it had a different director but oh well 🤷♀️
I love Dylan's commentaries where he just has fun with a film, but as a practicing film critic myself, watching him watch DWD to praise the style choices and Florence, tear apart the pacing, and wish for all the ways in which it could've been so much better, is an even more engrossing experience. 😊👏 Edit: As well as the fact that the most amount of joy he got from it was hearing Shelley name-drop "the troublemakers." 😆

I wonder if they had cast accordingly (Not shia but someone who could play that type of character well) how it could have gone.
why did they change it
why would they leave this out ugh
When Olivia Wilde bought the idea she completely changed a bunch of things about the movie

I agree the only times I liked the movie was when she was on screen. I really hope she gets more significant roles in the future man
she's the main reason I watched this movie. love Florence but she wasn't enough to sell it.
So true
@@ivanhenderson31
You gotta realize this wasn’t her choice, she was forced into this and chained down to the bed and she couldn’t move and we can probably assume she was drugged with something to stay in the simulation.
@@kenkan-edgy7206 it was confirmed she escaped. her mouth wasn't covered so i just assumed she screamed loud enough so her neighbors can hear

-Dylan has a real nose piercing
-He is finished with his book and is writing the sequel
-He is very serious, no jokes
-He went to a real college, no scams there
-Today is Monday, not Friday
and he is 20 years old
and he is young and hip
And he definitely does not watch the movie firsthand and then tries to "guess" the plot
In fact, i think his writing a prequel to his book. That's why he hasn't published it yet 👌😂
This was a serious reaction, it's the movie that is a joke.
That is so much better whyyy😭
Thanks. This plot is so much better.
I would love this, this idea for a story had so much promise, it COULD have been so scary yk what I mean
See when they showed them in flashbacks in the real world I thought that was were it's going.. Them splitting and Harry forcing this on her against her will

Its actually very common for people to freeze. It has its uses, but oftentime freezing happens when it shouldnt and works against survival.
It is not rational when ur on the outside looking in, its actually frustrating, but for the person experiencing it...its disorienting and takes some time to figure out how to even move.

Sure, many things could have been done differently which would have improved it, but those are all just details and it essentially turned out good in the end anyway.
(I also think Harry Styles did a good job at acting 🤷♀ Anyone who says he underperformed need to realise that 1: he played alongside known and respected actors/actresses so it was a given that he would be outshone and 2: sure this isn't his first rodeo but he doesn't have years of experience either.)
i think there is plenty of reason to justify not liking the movie
I think there was a lot of plot lines that could have been better and the ending was so underwhelming. Also The characters weren’t set up enough for the audience to truly care about them.
@@MusicLevel128 you clearly have not seen any good movies if you think this is any good, this could have been a good movie like the Stepford wives but in the new generation given how much this movie copies that but it was not, harry was underwhelming ( and you need to accept it, he clearly got the role through olivia cause no casting director would choose him for such a complex role, which is why shia was chosen in the first place) and so was most of the cast except gemma chan, chirs and flo. it was bad directing and writing all combined
florence carrying this whole movie is basically the only reason it's remotely watchable
Yeah it's true

Dylan's anger towards the caption menu was more expressive than Harry's performance.
the pure panic on Dylan's face when he realised he forgot his nose ring had me cackling
I am SO glad he decided to watch this so I don't have to! Thank you for service and losing your will to live for us, Dylan

God that was a terrible fucking story wtf,,, as a screenwriter I AM OFFENDED at the ending what the actual fuck - once again thank you for watching it for us Dylan. I need to go lie down and process that shit of an ending
Even these 35 minutes were such a pain to watch, thanks to Dylan's commentary I was able to get through it. This might be the WORST movie to ever exist
i didn’t watch the movie i only watched this commentary and even i feel a bit sick
florence pugh and the cinematography carried this whole movie. after watching it i understand that the intention was to leave the viewer confused because we were following the story though alice’s eyes. it really doesn’t make any sense while watching it though.
also: when olivia wilde told alice to leave now i kept screaming go and it was so aggravating oh my god
Florence wasn’t acting when Harry left.
She was genuinely shocked at how underwhelming Harry’s acting is.
💀

i don’t blame her
I mean it was though. Like he's a great singer and a great guy but his acting ability just kinda sucks

the fact that dylan predicted the movie in the first two minutes and then moved on to say “i wonder what the mystery is” im screaming
I remember reading an article reviewing this movie and the title of the article was “Olivia Wilde chooses Styles over Substance…”
And I honestly can’t think of a better way than that to describe the train wreck that is this movie.

I honestly found Harry’s lack of emotion more terrifying than any emotion could be

The problem isn't that he isn't displaying any emotion. The problem is he is trying to act out emotion and failing.
Yeah, and also he's supposed to be like a whiny incel loser so I think the acting matched that pretty well
@@diancloete976 this 😭😭
Thosw two things aren't complicated lol
Midsommar was so fucking confusing 😭😭I still don’t understand that movie
@@rissa1001 it was straight foward. How old are you? 😆 🤣
Since Dylan is confused about the newspaper: Some people swear by wiping a window down with newspaper after washing it since it apparently stops streaks from forming so you just have a nice clear window.
When I’m doing my spring cleaning I swear by newspaper and windex. My windows are so clean.
I lived until 50 without ever hearing this, including living with a grandmother who grew up in the 30s and probably would have known a thing or two about cleaning windows once she got her own house in the 50s, the very same one I grew up in during the 70s and 80s.
It does stop streaks! I use it for car and home windows
Newspapers and Windex are the holy grail of glass cleaning
You don’t even need windex. You can use vinegar and newspaper. I used to work at a store with large front windows and it was amazing how well it works.
Dylan being so mad at the audio bar is so much more entertaining than the entire movie.
@@issiecottrill8419 nah people ain't looking for a reason. People have a f**king reason. This movie was literally dog worst time spent in my life worst movie I've seen in my life. It was so boring so slow so repetitive. Harry's acting was so bad and his actor didn't show any emotion or depth whatsoever. It felt like his acting was as bad as watching a high school/middle school play.
It wss just so awful 😖
@@issiecottrill8419 you can’t just group up big concepts like “love” and “war” and compare it to a specific plot and act like it’s the same thing. it’s arguing in bad faith, dishonest, and not grounds for a proper debate or critique. don’t worry darling is not unique or inventive. it’s just another “omg my reality isn’t real!” movie which doesn’t bring any creativity or fun to the genre. they don’t even really succeed with retro theme they were going for, it doesn’t feel like they were going for accuracy more than they were aiming to have a cool aesthetic movie. it’s not a good movie
Chris Pine managed to be almost as ominous as he was in "Princess Diaries 2"
.
(just joking, I enjoyed his performance)
I feel like the movie would’ve been great if shortened to one hour, and if they went with the ending the original script had instead of what they went with, I would’ve enjoyed it so much more. Towards the end of the original it felt like they rushed it and they ran outta room. But
In the original script, Alice discovers the truth when she finds a portal to the real world inside a house for sale. Alice begins to head towards the door and the film ends.
omigod that is literally so much better, why did they rewrite it. still not sold on the ending but whatever
Ummm that’s SO MUCH BETTERRR
This would have been much much better. I wonder if the changes to the script were made when they lost Shia? Because this script asks a lot more of the Jack performance, which they couldn’t get from Harry. The change might have been made to have the film depend more on Florence (which was the case on the final product)
Well shit now I feel robbed that sounds badass!
This sounds so much better!
I was hesitant to watch because I didn’t want to spoil the film, but I 110% made the right choice watching this reaction in place of the film. I wouldn’t have made it through the movie w/o Dylan’s signature comments.
The movie was actually really good in theater though. Regardless of his review and my third time watching it now I’m happy my first experience was my own and not someone else’s.
@@Raebae457 I’m glad you enjoyed it. Aesthetically it really seems beautiful, but I’m not here for esoteric films, I feel like good art is accessible, and good storytelling is good storytelling. Great premiss, poor execution
I wish people were allowed to just take the same exact movie concept and remake it like explicitly be like “I can do it better let me try”. So many movies have a great concept and terrible play out but if someone remade it it would be considered a rip off
Not me feeling embarrassed that it took me a whole movie to realize what Dylan realized 2 minutes in.
I think people don't appreciate how consistent this man is.
The most frustrating film! You can't have a transparent plot and then leave so much unanswered at the end because you desperately want your film considered ambiguous and "artsy". Honestly, they'd have more luck making this a short since that's about how much substance it had.
that’s why it’s a psychological thriller ashley
@@phoebewhittaker-holmes don't insult psychological thrillers like that
@@valerial9081 agreed, that is an insult to psychological thrillers. There are plenty of them out there that really know how construct a well thought out plot.
Chris pines character gives me sinister vibes. He's played really well do but people aren't giving him the praise he serves. His cruelty towards Florence really explains his character and why Victory project is an inherently evil, violently patriarchal enslavement
Honestly him and Florence’s performances were the best parts of the movie.
Edit: As well as the fact that the most amount of joy he got from it was hearing Shelley name-drop "the troublemakers." 😆
apparently the original script was loads better

She was using a newspaper in that window cleaning shot. The paper that the news is printed on is actually really good for cleaning windows because it helps reduce streaking, and in the fifties everyone got a newspaper at least every week. It was also a good way to get more use out of the things you already had.
