We really fancy visiting Alaska and a cruise looks a good way to try it the first time. Looks like there are there are lots of good beer and fresh food in Ketchikan.
the seafood is most definitely fresh since there is an abundance of it during the tourist seasons. Seeing Alaska by cruise was perfect for me because it made it very carefree to see so many places. The cruising past Icebergs and glaciers was the best part!

Doing an Alaskan cruise is definitely something we'd love to do and this port looks like a great place to spend a day. We've done a cruise once around New Zealand and we also chose not to do day excursions and just explore. There's usually plenty to see and do at most ports.
The World n Us oh wow a cruise in New Zealand must have been awesome too. Yes, sometimes exploring on our own is better just to be free. I take tours sometimes too, but there are other options.

We would love to cruise to Alaska, definitely on our to do list. Good to know whats within walking distance of the ports as excursions on cruises can be expensive.
I generally prefer to explore places on my end rather than booking tours, so these tips are really useful. Ketchikan looks like a lovely place to visit!

Honestly, IDK why anyone would take an excursion. The only thing to take an excursion for on this itinerary is glaciers, and you can see them from the cruise ship.
