Thank you very much, That makes perfect sense. Could you steer me in the direction of some gear that is very good. I want a wing that is nice and stable, because I am not in it to be a stunt man, I just want to fly around peacefully and enjoy the views. Thanks again. -Brad
I want to get into Powered Paragliding, I really need to cut thru the BS and get some good equipment and good instruction. Anyone here that can point me in the right dirrection. I dont want to be scammed and I dont want to DIE! I want to be able to learn the sport and fly for many years with reliable and safe equipment. Thanks you for any help you can give. -Brad

Cool video guys :) v nice flying. Also can i add... is it just me but when i read comments like the first few (and most others)that have been posted i cant help thinking its that kno@ head Dell shanze under a sudonym (he must have loads).
Finally socked away enough money for all gear and training and now, of course, winter is upon us. In a way this is a plus as it gives me more time to research the many questions I have. I have a lot of confusion over what equipment to purchase, who to purchase it from, and where/with whom to get instruction. The research I've conducted thus far is discouraging - it seems as though many people in this sport are at odds with one another for some reason. Can't figure out if it's business competitiveness or egos? The latter seems more likely as businesses generally refrain from making disparaging remarks about competitors. It looks to be around $12,000.00 I'll be shelling out when all is said and done. (looking to purchase everything brand new) More than the initial start-up cost is concern for my safety and life. There are instructors not far from me in VA who are not USPPA but seem very qualified. They also informed me that there's no such thing as a _rating system_ in the industry. I checked this with the local office of the FAA and they confirmed. So what's the deal? Anyone who cares to answer these questions I would greatly appreciate it. I have all winter to decide so there's no pressure or rush - just looking to be safe, have fun, and avoid all of the politics (which will completely ruin the sport for me). Thanks.
Sounds like sour grapes from someone who is not certified. Think of it like Scuba training. The ratings system certainly exists but is completely voluntary. There are a few events that require a PPG2 rating. Much like Scuba, the idea is to have some standards to insure pilots get trained in knowledge and skill to a certain minimum level for those who value their life enough to do take the time. Visit USPPA.org for a list of certified schools. Good luck!
Thank you for the information and reply. Will surely research this further. After all, although PPG is likely the safest method of air travel, perhaps even safer than automobiles, there's no point in taking unecessary risks.
Not an authority - an organization. FAA only has a few rules for paramotoring - FAR103. What the USPPA does is it is a group of instructors who got together and said what things do we need to teach to ensure the safest learning environment? It is not mandatory, you don't have to go through them for training and they don't make any claim that you must use them.
I have an issue with how USPPA comports itself in relation to other organizations and training. The "Fray" boils down to dealers and instructors bad mouthing each others products and training. It has been going on for YEARS now and USPPA is JUST as guilty as Kaptain Jerk AND Stupid Dell. They have a whole page dedicated to bad mouthing Dell and implying that he is mentally ill! It's not that I disagree with them Dell is NUTS and very bad for the sport but they should just ignore him rather than slandering him. It is unseemly. They make it VERY clear in their material that taking training from ANYBODY but them is suicide and phrase everything as though their ratings are REQUIRED! They charge a fortune for training (about double what it costs to get a GOVERNMENT ISSUED PPG PILOTS LICENCE IN CANADA.) and try to teach you EVERYTHING ALL AT ONCE which is a VERY bad method of training. I would never take training with Kurt, Dell OR USPPA because they ALL spout HATE towards each other online. USPPA are considered by many to be "the good guys" but NOT to MY eyes! They may be better than Dell but they are NO better than Kurt! He spouts hate and puts down the competition BUT SO DOES USPPA! I suggest USPPA remove any mention of any other organization from all online content so we can respect SOMEBODY in this sport.
Starting with the throttle positioned so that a thrusting motor can push more throttle *IS* extraordinarily risky. I was NOT doing so, rather I was holding the throttle with only the stem against the motor. But it's a good thing to point out. The safer course is to start it on your back or have someone else do so. It's a risk abatement I don't normally do.
GTR just makes you want to play more and more. Always land smiling. Great video guys.
Flying like You one day, that's the target!!! Thank You

I heard usppa are a self appointed authority meaning the make their own stuff up eg. Certification

Awesome video. Big no-no at 5:35 though.

My observation wasn't the throttle, it was holding the cage to start instead of the frame.
Nice
...you guys make it difficult to choose a wing company, and size, lol
