    I just bought the Vevor 3500W Pure Sine Wave inverter for short power outages (4-6 hours.) Here in Florida, during the rainy season we get frequent thunderstorms with gusty winds, which knock out power for a few hours. This inverter will make life easier. I also have a 12000W/15000W generator for long power outages, like after a hurricane or TS. All set for hurricane season.

    ❤ Very interesting I bought one on Amazon hopefully since I lose power in my house once in a while I would like to around the fridge raider and sub pump but maybe I need some more material maybe I just cannot run it would just the battery by itself very good video lots of good input thank you

    Ultimately it will be the vehicle alternator that is providing the power to your inverter but few will be able to deliver the 3500 watts mentioned which would be over 250 amps.

    Perfect timing, a buddy is converting an ambulance to live in and gave me the old inverter out of it so I've been looking into how I'll mount everything.
    Those included cables seem a lil chintzy for 3k watts but I guess they're short

    • @ThisWeekWithCars

      Those cables could handle twice the current the inverter can use.

    You answered my question ... inverters need a dedicated generator ... thanks

    Very interesting stuff. I know this will sound a bit 'cheesy' but you always seem to think of the 'common man' when presenting different options. as you said some thought the generator was expensive so you found a cheaper option. This seems to have just as much scope as the generator. Thanks Steve and Merry Christmas to you and Cassi, 👍👍

    3500W from say 14V, that's 3500/14 = 250amps. At 90% efficiency, more like 275amps. Don't forget to upgrade your alternator and calculate what size wiring you need! Lead acid car batteries totally suck in this application, you can't draw a lot of current out of them over time. They are optimized for large but short current spikes to start the car.

    You have great access to tech that wont filter thru to NZ for a year or so it seeems. Would these or similar convert to 240 volt? If so I could fit one of these to my house bus and delete the noisy old petrol generator and the tiddly inverter we have at present.

    I was going to make a set up like yours with a inverter connected to a battery that was being charged by a alternator and the inverter company told me it will damage the inverter.
    Have you experienced any problems with your set-up?

    • @ThisWeekWithCars
      @ThisWeekWithCars 4 месяца назад

      No of course not, it is exactly how the inverter was intended to be used, why would it break the inverter?

    • @Hydrogenblonde
      @Hydrogenblonde 4 месяца назад +1

      @@ThisWeekWithCars I have no idea. They did not provide a explanation. I thought perhaps it was something to do with ripple voltage produced by the alternator, but that doesn't make sense. If a alternator was producing excess ripple voltage a modern car with all the electronics and computer systems would not put up with that. The battery should smooth that out as well. It had me baffled.

    Could solar panels be added to that inverter?
    There are portable power stations where solar panels can be added so I was curious.

    • @stevencartlidge6574
      @stevencartlidge6574 Год назад

      No, voltage from solar panels are around 18-22volts and will burn up 12volt products. Panels need to go through a charge controller then to a battery storage.

    • @stevencartlidge6574
      @stevencartlidge6574 Год назад

      I forgot you could run panels through a dc to dc converter and then a power inverter without batteries. But the power out (amps) would be low and not run much. There is a RUclipsr named Will Prowse (diy solar power) that explains how to do that.

    • @ThisWeekWithCars
      @ThisWeekWithCars Год назад +1

      You can add solar panels to keep the battery charged but you cannot run it on solar with no battery.
