i always carry a hammer, screwdriver, multitool and butchery kit. you can enable autopickup in the menu for the item in question. so i->enter->+

for the zones you need to make a "Loot: Unsorted" zone that you drop everything into. then when you press "O" and select "sort personal zones" it'll sort all the stuff in the unsorted zones into any other setup zones that they fall into. you can also setup spots to drop corpses you want to auto strip, items you want to auto-disassemble, and some other stuff.

I am enjoying the series. The auto pick up can be nice until you walk over a rock while in combat and so the character takes time to pick it up allowing for an attack from a zombie.

Just cleared my first military base and its freaking great. SOOO MUCH good stuff, enough MREs to last a year or more i think. Going to turn it into my base of operations. Once you know what your doing clearing out the place can be kinda easy with a good 50 cal sniper rifle. The hardest part is you have to do with a bunch of them smoking/smoldering buggers in mass. Its also a bummer getting the devices skill to pick the locks to the armory, ive done it before but this time i creaited a charecter with high devices to do it so my shooter can get out and about. You can do it all on 1 guy but it just takes way to read books to get it to lvl 3.
