Fitzroy Melbourne Info:
Fitzroy is an inner-city suburb of Melbourne, Victoria, Australia, 3 km north-east of Melbourne's Central Business District in the local government area of the City of Yarra. At the 2016 Census, Fitzroy had a population of 10,445. Planned as Melbourne's first suburbs in 1839, it was later also one of the city's first areas to gain municipal status, in 1858. It occupies Melbourne's smallest and most densely populated suburban area, just 100 ha.
Fitzroy is known throughout Australia for its street art, music scene and culture of bohemianism, and is the main home of Melbourne's Fringe Festival. Its commercial heart is Brunswick Street, one of Melbourne's major retail, culinary, and nightlife strips. Long associated with the working class, Fitzroy has undergone waves of urban renewal and gentrification since the 1980s and today is inhabited by a wide variety of socio-economic groups, featuring both some of the most expensive rents in Melbourne and one of its largest public housing complexes, Atherton Gardens.
Its built environment is diverse and features some of the finest examples of Victorian-era architecture in Melbourne. Much of the suburb is covered by a historic preservation precinct, with many individual buildings and streetscapes covered by Heritage Overlays.[4] The most recent changes to Fitzroy are mandated by the Melbourne 2030 Metropolitan Strategy, in which both Brunswick Street and nearby Smith Street are designated for redevelopment as Activity centres.
It was named after Sir Charles Augustus FitzRoy, the Governor of New South Wales from 1846 to 1855.[5] It is bordered by Alexandra Parade (north), Victoria Parade (south), Smith Street (east) and Nicholson Street.

As a child we lived in the high rise flats, block 90. Best childhood🙋🏻♀️🇦🇺
I used to live in Carlton and worked in Fitzroy. I have not been back there for such a long time. I used to hang out @9:12 (Black Cat Cafe ??) in my student years. Fond memories. Thanks
Happy to know the video brought back some good memories. Thanks too for sharing them 😊
I lived in Napier st not of Johnson st in the 60 tie's as a teenager and I worked in Brunswick st and it was never like that then I haven't been to Fitzroy for many years I have to come and take a walk around myself thanks for the walk 😁
Fitzroy, my favorite area!
Fitzroy looks awesome!hope to visit Melbourne one day!
Thanks for showing me Melbourne again. I haven't been back since a couple of years. Interesting to see it again. Thanks Alan! Happy 2020!
Its always constantly changing. Nice that some parts of it "remain" the same. Visited an art photography space in Fitzroy, its pretty nice, managed to speak to some of the photographer when I was there
@@DiscoveryWalkingToursTV Nice!
Happy 2020! … hahaha probably not the best timed joke
Love Fitzroy , a vibrant suburb in Melbourne's inner north .
Thanks for commenting. Made me revisit the video again. Good memories 😊
Super interesting tour, good job
Thanks Ross 😄
Interesting walk, thanks again Alan. Been to Melbourne but not to places in your videos.
This part of Melbourne was really interesting. Would love to come here again. I didn't record the place but there was an awesome bakery in the area. Super long queues. Loved it
That's a great tour. Thanks Alan :)
Glad to hear from you Gautam 😊 hope it proves useful. You visited Melbourne before?
@@DiscoveryWalkingToursTV Yes, I was there a couple of years back. The Great Ocean Road & Apollo bay were really breath taking.
Yeah the Great Ocean Road was a good memory. I went during the winter and its was blazing cold (due to the winds). Wish I could upload the video but alas the audio is pretty bad due to the strong winds. Hopefully will be able to see Melbourne again in the near future
@@DiscoveryWalkingToursTV wow sounds chilly af, that must've been fun. Have u been to Europe, particularly the Nordic countries.
@@EpicLightForce Haven't been to the nordic countries before. Furthest north I been to in Europe is either Manchester or Berlin. It was bearable 😁 coldest I ever been was to Harbin in China. It was minus 20 over there. Now that was an experience 🤣
Thank you for sharing:) Happy new year!
Happy New Year SW! 😄 Glad to see you again!
FITZROY - CARLTON - BRUNSWICK - MY FAVORITE SUBURBS .
Thanks for this
Hi, do you hold the camera in your hand or is it strapped to your chest?
Kind regards.
Hi Daniel. It's held in my hand. Easier to control what I want to focus on
What sort of camera do you use? Do you mount it, or just hold it?
I use an osmo pocket. Its a simple camera that comes with a gimbal. I hold it in my hand to film.
Discovery Walking Tours TV Thank you.
