If anyone wants a fun combo to try, do Soviet/Japan and try this, on 11 kredits or any turn after, float 7 kredits to summon the Ki-61 TONY at the start of your next turn, then with 12 kredits, play Patriotic War, and then For the Emperor and Burst of Fire on TONY. It's a fun OTK so long as they don't have a guard unit (so I play 3 outflanks to help kill off any the turn you float 7 kredits).
I guess I didn't think of that because I was trying to find a fun way to use Patriotic War. But what you said makes a lot more sense, uses less kredits and more reliable, plus could use US ramp then to go faster. Although the nice thing about my version is it works better against decks that heal since Patriotic War sets them back down to 12, using US, you would just need to go fast enough before they could heal too much. Definitely going to try your idea though, thanks!

So retreating a card to hand was counted the same as "send to hand"? Is this still the case, I always assumed those were different things in the same sense remove =/= discard?

Nice idea, but why not play it with US ally? There you have bolster and patrol to do the combo and get rid of guards...
