I was a shy, quiet, awkward and unassuming young lady, it started with pills, led to heroin, dabbled in crack, dabbled in meth and was in full blown addiction by 25. And it was all just normal to me, my parents were addicts, both brothers were addicts, drugs bonded me with my family. I'm a wife and a mother now, oh and I got to break the cycle. 3-17-2016. As long as you're still breathing, there is hope.

If I didn’t have enablers I would’ve died, others may have a different outcome. Every story is different. If I had to live on the streets and sell myself and live with that now there is no way with my mental illness I would’ve been able to come back from. I am so critical of myself sacs choices. I was close to it which is why I stopped because I knew I couldn’t handle those consequences.. self inflicted nonetheless.. I have enough of my own mess to look at. I don’t judge but I’d probably light myself on fire preparing for hell. I’m not a well person and it’s not ok the way I punish myself for things.

I agree. Cosmo is a recovering addict who extended his love by asking Rebecca was he ready to get sober and Mark discouraged it yet he feeds him tons of money, hotels, phones, etc which keeps Rebecca sick. I hope Cosmo continues to encourage Rebecca to get help.

Rebecca is not ready to quit doing drugs, but wants all the "benefits" of being sober: a house, a job and stability but doesn't want to "do the work" to become sober. She hasn't hit rock bottom yet 💯
Im starting to see to see that A LOT of homeless people are like that. Its easier to them to struggle, then change their lives for the better.

Mark needs to listen to the wisdom of Cosmos. Cosmos has been there, has lived it and knows exactly how to interact with Rebecca. Mark is sitting there acting like he knows more than cosmos knows about how to communicate with Rebecca.

Rebecca needs more of cosmo. Cosmo is so reasonable with her, not making her bite off more than she can chew. Rebecca needs someone that understands addiction first hand.
I disagree to a point. Cosmo had a different upbringing. I think Rebecca has mental illness and deep trauma. There are large gaps in the story of Rebecca.

I JUST realized I MET Cosmo! We met a few years ago when I was working for a garment manufacturer in DTLA. I was heading out for the day and Cosmo talked to me for a bit but my boss didn't like me conversing with her clients even though Cosmo initiated the convo & kept it going.
Beautiful soul, so lively & entertaining, it was a great experience cut-short.
I have never heard Mark speak so much during an interview. I am glad to see Cosmo imparting wisdom.

Mark, the photo of Cosmo & Rebecca is art. Your photos are always stunning. I think some of us forget that it was the photography that got you started on this journey. You're not a counselor, psychiatrist, welfare agency or haven for the lost. Thanks for all that you are trying to do and documenting it.

Mark is not at all mean to Rebecca nor says mean things to him. Mark has been of friend of Rebecca for years and has done more for her than he ever should of because it became the worst case of enabling. But he learned and is now supportive without giving him the money to kill himself with. He speaks to Rebecca with honesty, nit meanest! Rebecca needs to hear the truth. God knows he gets too many compliments at times. They only help keep him where he's at. Rebecca knows Mark only has her well being in mind or he'd sense negativity and not keep returning as he does. Mark has been a rock for Rebecca and sometimes thinks too much of him in my opinion. But they have been together in this for years now so quit judging something you know nothing about when you try to say Mark belittles him. It's just not true. Maybe painfully honest, but that's all it is.
Cosmo….thank you for reminding me to treat EVERYONE no matter who what where they come from or are going through… with love and respect while setting boundaries that protect you. Your an angel
“It’s about loving yourself” take note Mark. Accept Rebecca as who she says she is. Don’t misgender her, tell her you accept her - zero commentary about “it’s the drugs” or “you just hate yourself”. You have all the videos- she has been very clear about who she is. This pain is from rejection, I gather especially from her family.
That part bothers me so much. He’ll call her “she” in one breath and then misgender her in another. He can’t possibly believe that’s good for her already fragile psyche. With all the trans people he interviews, you’d think he’d catch on one day and take people as they are
Part of puting something back together means calling it what it is, broken, and shattered into 1 million pieces.
Rebecca doesn’t want to admit how broken she is and all of us can see the pieces laying everywhere she walks. I’ve dealt with drug addiction with my brother, since we were kids. He was violated when he was young and it affected him terribly. The best way we were able to help him is to not beat around the bush, call things as they were and tell him often times to knock his garbage off.
Saying from a distance “you poor thing” doesn’t help. The best thing you can do is look them straight in the eye, tell him how f’d up they are, offer the help and if they don’t want to take it, you need to move on. If you don’t, you will be drug into their con, because their number one love in life is their habit.
My brother nearly destroyed our family, and he is still an absolute mess even to this day because he refuses, like Rebecca, to get straight and go to rehab. Playing their games doesn’t help them and it’s 100% acceptable to meet people on our own terms. They don’t like it, there’s other places they can go and so can we.
Every drug addict that I’ve known that got clean and left their habits behind has told me that they had to hit Rockbottom, they had to realize that no one was going to help them anymore, they couldn’t keep getting the money from people to do their stuff. One of the best ways that you can help someone get off drugs is by helping them in every way possible not to do them. Sometimes sympathy is a crutch and tough love works more often than not.
I’ve had my own addictions, trust me. I know how hard it can be and I have all the empathy in the world for people like Rebecca, but I also know that there comes a time when enough is enough, and the best thing for me was for others to stop coddling me and giving me constant handouts, they were only enabling me.

I agree with all of their points, loving her exactly where she’s at is so important but she deserves to be supported and in an environment that encourages her to speak up for herself.

I lost my sister to addiction last year...December 7 2023... I appreciate people like Cosmo. I was the same way with my sister. I tell folks all the time that understanding goes a long way. You can tell an addict they need to go to rehab a million and one times, but if they aren't ready, they aren't going to go. Don't enable them, but help them when you can, and never judge them for what they are going through....especially when you see and know the potential that they have. I miss my sister so much.

COSMO is the BEST! Can we please get COSMO a full-time reality TV show on Bravo! I'd watch hours of him talking, smoking and watching what he does in his many stores. Mark, it is about connection. Addicts and alcoholics are isolated and lonely. When they connect to the program, a sponsor, the fellowship, to God they improve, start living themselves and helping others
This episode is exceptionally touching. These are mini interventions and both Mark”s and Cosmo”s hearts are truly in the right place. Rebecca needs no humanizing, because you CAN truly see how human, how vulnerable and how LOST she is. Cosmo’s reactions as subtle as they were spoke volumes. His tears are what my Spirit wants to call tears of mourning the world (who has come to love Rebecca) without a Rebecca in it. Cosmo knows all too well what Rebecca’s fate which is already sealed UNLESS someone rips the hammer away from fate before the last nail is embedded in the coffin.

I have almost 11 years clean from meth&coke. I remember feeling like i wasn't worthy of a different life. It was people like Cosmo that helped me realize I COULD do it. Cosmo’s empathy, acceptance and love is so beautiful. I just lost my very best friend to addiction last month, and he’s actually the 5th friend of mine to lose his life to addiction. He was trying real hard to get better, and I even showed him the Cosmo interview in hopes he’d feel inspired. But he just couldn’t do it, and I am heartbroken. I hope that anyone who watches knows they are not alone in their struggle and there is always hope. Thanks Mark, for all you do. I pray Rebecca is able to find her way out soon.

Having a former addict on her cheering squad with such a maternal instinct is what Rebecca needs… as a former addict myself, my life was changed by someone who was exactly like that… someone who knew understood what “ready” looks like and how to handle conversations respectfully but still making it clear what the right thing to do is.. God blessed the world with Cosmo and others like her.. they are here to change lives ❤
Respectfully, once an addict, you’re always an addict. An addict can be in recovery for many years & that’s the hardest part, the maintenance phase. Some struggle more than others & every person’s motivation to maintain sobriety is different; however, from a clinical standpoint, there is no actual “cure” for addiction. Support is super essential in this process & Cosmo is an excellent person to have as support.
I don’t understand why anyone is upset lol. This is MARK’S channel. He can upload whatever tf he wants and you don’t have to watch. This channel doesn’t exist to get addicts into recovery. If that’s what you want to see, there are channels for that. Better yet, go start your own.
Or people can watch and critique. If mark didn’t accept criticism he would have turned off comments. Go sit down.
Mark told us he was done with the Rebecca and golers. I was a fan since the beginning. This is not helping anyone but Marks youtube clicks. HE said he couldn’t do it because Rebecca isnt trying to get better. Now she just has a new slammer and Mark is looking for clicks.

Is it just an addiction? Is the fear of rehab also the fear of feeling everything and remembering the traumas of the past. My heart goes out to you all. It will be a long road to recovery for Rebecca once she decides to get help but it’s a necessary part of getting sober.
Seeing Rebecca this way after watching her previous videos breaks my heart. When she is ready, I think she will live such a beautiful life free from drugs. She is quick-witted, smart, and has a sense of fashion and style. We share the same birthday on August 4th, I hope she has a great day and maybe gets a great dress. Mark- nobody hates Rebecca. People are worried about her and worried about you enabling her. That’s why some people said they were done at one point. It’s hard to see someone go through this. It’s so hard. I wouldn’t even tell her about hateful comments. She might need to be involuntarily committed? I really don’t know. I know that when I was trying to get better and people kept telling me how amazing I was I was afraid to get sober and disappoint them. This is making me cry and I'm only a few minutes in. The amount Cosmo really cares for Rebecca is palpable and so, so touching. Rebecca seems to be in a bad way. It's just all utterly heartbreaking. I can't imagine how frustrating it is for Mark and Cosmo, literally laying themselves and their resources on silver platters and she's just not ready to accept the help. So sorry Mark and Cosmo. You're both the salt of the earth and I'll be here for these updates, no matter what or when the ultimate outcome for her is. Thank you. Love and hope to Rebecca always.

The problem is mark continually does it Rebecca won't get help until she wants to. This is just enabling them. You have to cut off addicts at a point. That is how they reach bottom to recover
@@ginga_ninja-wn9db the problem is that an addict will enable themselves in any way. Mark is just caring and spending time with Rebecca. So it truly does not matter. An addict will do what they do untill they are ready. Tough love doesn't help. At least true love shows comfort so when they decide they're ready they have someone.to back them up. WHEN THEYRE READY.

The 27club. My daughter father talked about when we were young. I was with him since I was 18yrs old and he was 20yrs. He passed away from brain cancer when he was 27yrs old. 27yrs old was my best yr for my career, looks, and relationships.
We had a daughter together when he was battling brain cancer. She was 5months when he passed , she’s now a teenager. She’s a cheerleader and honors. Never remarried. That’s the 27 club if you call for it!

Her experience has to suck so bad but as long as Mark gives her money, phones, outfits, hotel rooms, and fawns over her, it won't suck. No wonder why she's still having fun. It bothers me that Mark is calling the shots with Rebecca but he should really be getting educated by an addiction specialist such as Dr. Gabor Mate. A real addiction medical professional needs to call the shots.

I know this is one of the most amazing interviews I have watched. I could not process it when I watched it the first time, I am back again. To re-watch. Watching Rebecca is just difficult for me, it makes me sad, Of course. I love the kindness and compassion without pending judgement Cosmo extends. Cosmo gets it, knows how to deliver it, balance it, and weigh it out. When you learn something new, understand something more clearly, and wish to know more, that person has been a teacher. While that is true ALOT of the time, there are also those of us out here that only try to write positive, understanding, uplifting, and encouraging stuff to everyone as well!!!
(I have responded back to nasty, negative, harsh, rude, cruel, or hurtful comments on other people's posts before (well, on a few occasions that have been on my own posts/comments too), but I've always done it from a place of love, respect, kindness, and/or compassion, and never from an accusatory point of view). I mean, I just dont/can't understand why some people in this world have such hate, anger, and/or disgust in their hearts, to where they feel they have the right to speak to others in such ways, and it be okay or acceptable...it literally blows my mind that some people out there think that that is OKAY!!!!!!!!!
My way of thinking, and acting to people is, that you never know just what someone may be going through, or how close they may be to losing it all, SO WHY NOT BE NICE AND KIND, THOUGHTFUL AND UNDERSTANDING, HUMBLE AND CARING, UPLIFTING AND ENCOURAGING, SUPPORTIVE AND COMPASSIONATE.....WHILE BEING POSITIVE, TRUTHFUL, *AND* RESPECTFUL TO THE PERSON OR PEOPLE YOU'RE SPEAKING TO, OR ABOUT???!!!!!!!! At the end of the day, don't we all just want/need to feel like we matter? Like we're seen, heard, worthy, valued, accepted, appreciated, and loved.....so why not try to understand that from other people's points of view too!!! At least that's my take on the world!!!
Mark please don’t discourage anyone struggling from being asked if they are ready to go to rehab. Illicit drugs now are deadly. There’s nothing wrong with asking her if she’s ready. People care about and love her. 🥰🌻

All my own personal theories, but I don’t think there is anything worse that could happen to Rebecca. My feeling is that something happened to her in her foundational years that no experience now could ever top. She can’t rely on hitting rock bottom to motivate her to get better, because that bottom no longer exists.

It’s at least good that Ishmael has a friend, but he still is not receiving mental or drug, therapy and no spiritual guidance. This is a shame that no church or agency seems interested in him, and he has no family. It looks like all he has left is Jesus….literally.

What worries me about Rebecca is how much damage has been done to her brain. She seems to get worse and worse as time goes on. the damage is significant and I'm guessing not completely reversible. she's destroying what makes Rebecca, Rebecca. it's very very sad. she's running out of time to turn it around. all this talk of fame and fortune... she's losing her quick wit, her intelligence and her looks to the meth. when they are gone she'll be a person who even sober will have trouble functioning independently.

It's working through that trauma, and that can feel more daunting and scary than staying an addict. If nothing else I hope that Mark's videos show that whatever issues a person presents, they are still human and worthy.

The thing that gets me about the negative commenters is the inability to compassionately understand that most addiction issues like Rebecca's are born from EXTREME childhood trauma. Most of the people saying awful things would advocate for firing lines for pedophiles - if they saw someone abusing a child, they would beat the living daylights out of the abuser (I would too)...but when it comes to the actual *child* who had horrific shit done to them, there is NO sympathy. Rebecca is that child - stuck in the trauma, stuck in their head, trying to stay alive. I can't claim to know how to get Rebecca from point A to B, but I know it isn't hate.

Absolutely. The trauma just swallows us whole. It arrests your development and you just can’t progress like others.. not everyone is affected that way, either. As you get older it gets worse on a person, not better. Opposite of what one would expect. Rebecca has a chance still.. she just has to grab on with both hands and not let go. She definitely deserves the freedom. That’s what she’s looking for freedom, love for herself, acceptance.. she’ll never get it this way, though. ☮️🩷
@@mineuser5584 Arresting development is a critical concept that too few people comprehend. I have worked with families in crisis for the past decade, but as a lawyer and not a therapist. Some have been in therapy long enough to understand why they feel so much anger or why they cannot feel empathy and a few are willing to share what they've learned. I never ask because I don't want to trigger them or re-traumatize them. It breaks my heart when I hear a ten-year-old exclaim how much she dreads getting a new therapist because she'll have to explain her trauma to yet another person. Seeing people suffering an upheaval in their lives and having so few programs that can provide consistent treatment and support instead of a revolving door of psychiatrists, therapists, and social workers who are doing an internship or building a résumé then walking away from clients in need. Sorry, I wish POTUS Jimmy Carter's national health care program had not been dismantled by the first Hollywood tool of the Republicans who hate people. Everything Reagan did was to undermine the average person's access to the American dream.

Rebecca explained clearly in those past videos, I remember Rebecca was excited, wanting to become US citizenship .. when Rebecca found out the hidden consequences, of being detained for several months, possibly the worse decision, US government send Rebecca back to her country. Rebecca pledge not to return back to Egypt, because Rebecca definitely be tortured to death. Rebecca's trauma is misunderstood.

I haven't watched every video of Rebecca but was wondering if I had heard Mark correctly once mentioning deportation. You answered some of the questions which also lead me to wonder how Rebecca came here and where are family members. As a young immigrant I can see how things might have contributed to Rebecca getting caught up in the wrong "crowd" so to speak. Perhaps feeling lost, lonely,not fitting in and that leading to depression and maybe even more confounded by gender dysmorphia.
@@Twyztid_Angel Rebecca is 26. Originally from Egypt. Well-educated. Multilingual education: Arabic, English, French. Studied photography abroad (UK). Very creative mind. Vacationed with family members in the USA. Rebecca insisted on overstaying the tourist visa in New York, but they had to leave. Went to LA eventually. Not a US citizen or a permanent resident, but has picked up the accent. These are bits and pieces I have read, so they might not be true at all.

Oh Rebecca, you are so fortunate that someone like Mark has pointed your life out to the world. In my travels as a tent dwelling nomad in the US, I can say that there are Rebeccas everywhere, in every city and living rough and dying rough. These folks have been my peers and allies whenever I'm in an urban area as I have hitchhiked and cycled all over my country since 2017.

Hearing cosmo speak about the voices telling her to get out, I heard it too, 4am over six years ago I lept out a window had no where to go I just knew if I didn't I may never! I spent a few hours sitting in a local ER department ( January in PA ). That was my true beginning in sobriety ❤
