Arcade Longplay #46: Blue's Journey

Blue's Journey, known in Japan as Raguy (ラギ?), is a side scrolling platform game originally released by Alpha Denshi in Summer 1991 on SNK Playmore's Neo Geo MVS arcade system and their AES home system. It was later ported to the Neo Geo CD in 1994. It was more recently released on the Wii's Virtual Console in Europe on November 9, 2007, followed by North America on November 12, 2007.
In the game the player controls a heroic young man named Blue who has to save the peaceful planet of Raguy. It has been invaded by the evil Daruma Empire, who plans on consuming the planet's resources and polluting it. Blue has the ability to stun enemies, pick them up and throw them as projectiles. He can also shrink himself down in order to access hidden areas. A second player can take control of Princess Fa, who has similar powers to Blue.
On release, Famicom Tsūshin gave the Neo Geo version of the game a score of 17 out of 40.

Me trae muchos recuerdos este juego, neta de muy peque mi gefe me descargo en un disquete para la pc todos los juegos del NeoGeo, pero el que más me gustó en ese entonces era este juego.
Lo disfruté mucho pero jamás me acordé del nombre, pasaron muchos años hasta hoy que el encontré este video, muchas gracias por regresarme a mi niñez

Este juego tiene un secreto que nunca eh visto en la web, un dia lo encontre de pura casualidad. Se puede entrar en una especia de parte de la programacion, donde realizas un viaje medio psicodelico, ademas de que al ser tocado por un enemigo dejan una copia tu y el enemigo que al comenzar a desaparecer tambien te hace daño... Ya casi 30 años de este juego y nunca lo eh visto en otra parte...

yo recuerdo que lo hacia en mas maquinas arcade cuando me mataban apretaba al mismo tiempo los botones ABD y asu dejaba como una copia de cuando me mataban esto se repetia cada que un enemigo te matara 👍

The sound capabilities of the Neo are basically two Commodore Amigas, half a Sega Genesis, and a Sega Master System. Most games prioritize the PCM sample (Amiga-type) voices, this is one of the few games that actually uses the FM Synthesis (Sega Genesis-type) voices. In fact, I've never really heard anything but samples in any games not made by Alpha Denshi. Did some Neo Geo game cartridges have hardware add-ons in them (Think like the Super FX chip on the Super Nintendo)?

I'm suprised SNK didn't make a few more 'traditional' platformer games. The Neo Geo only has two, as far as I'm aware: Blues Journey and Magician Lord. Both are decent and you'd think the company would've wanted to cash in on the Mario/Sonic/mascot craze.

Neo Geo had the weirdest platformers. This would have looked nice and vivid back in 1990. The NES and the Master System couldn’t get colors so bright. The gameplay feels loose and makes you realize how Nintendo really got platformers down to a science. Super Mario World levels usually centered around learning new enemy types or were themed by hazards. There’s usually a “lesson” with a new variable thrown in. Here, they sort of organize the environments but the stage design is all over the place. There are some enemies that look different but do the same thing. You don’t need most of the things you can buy and they vaguely do something. There’s a button dedicated to a shrinking ability that’s only needed once or twice in the whole game and it’s not clear if it has any other benefits. The jump is a bit floaty. Loose is the word. There were definitely worse games at the time, but this doesn’t clearly justify its elements. The weird bug thing and the garden aesthetic just have a happy vibe though. 😐

Por otra parte si no mal recuerdo, en el momento 27:59 en esa zona donde está el líquido azul recuerdo que me deje golpear por uno de los enemigos y al caer ahí ocurrió un curioso glitch que es seguir por esa zona adelante y encontrarás al icono de NeoGeo indicando que no hay salida xd
