  • In this video I make an outdoor enclosure for my hermanns tortoises so that I can separate them from my growing Sulcata Tortoise since she is getting much bigger than them.
    🔴If you make an outdoor enclosure like this and your tortoise is still small make sure to put a screen on it so predators don’t get to them!!🔴

      What type of tortoise? If you don’t know, I would try and search it up, my Russian tortoises main diet is iceburg lettuce (people don’t recommend it because it’s low nutritional, so I mix it with nutritional things) some Arcadia pressed tortoise hay, from pets mart and occasionally I sprinkle tortoise calcium on it, but this is my tortoises specific diet. first find out if it’s a herbivore or omnivore, a tortoises main diet is high fiber low protein, and no sugary stuff and even if it is a omnivore, I’d just stick to leafy greens for now.(like romaine greens and collard greens) hope this helps ❤.

    How do you keep them from digging underneath the enclosure and escaping?

    • @ShadowsReptiles
      @ShadowsReptiles  9 месяцев назад

      The ground is raised a few inches on the inside, the torts I’ve kept here don’t dig much. It’s been Hermann’s and redfoots both of these species aren’t tunnelers

  • @DarthGengarus
    @DarthGengarus 3 месяца назад

    are those walls dug in? You never have one dig out?

    • @ShadowsReptiles
      @ShadowsReptiles  3 месяца назад

      It depends what species you’re planning to keep. Redfoots for example do not dig.

    Not next to the fan, won’t that be bothersome to them?

    • @ShadowsReptiles
      @ShadowsReptiles  Месяц назад

      No, they aren’t close enough to be bothered by it and I’ve even noticed most of them want to go sleep near/under it. I think maybe because it’s warmer🤣 if you check out my newer videos on the smaller torts you’ll see I keep them even closer now.

      @@ShadowsReptiles My sulcata goes and sleeps nexts to the loud pool pump! In the summer! They're crazy lol. I wonder if their hearing isn't that great but the vibration is soothing?

    How do you make a basking spot for the sulcatas?

    • @ShadowsReptiles
      @ShadowsReptiles  10 месяцев назад +1

      Just have an open space available that gets up to 95° with uvb if indoors or somewhere they can get sunlight to bask naturally. Check out my cheap tortoise set up video for more info.

    • @ShadowsReptiles
      @ShadowsReptiles  2 года назад

      I can’t remember but an estimate according to prices today. Maybe $80 total depends a lot on what materials you use and what plants, substrate or anything else. You can make it really cheap or expensive it’s up to you. Sometimes free if you use scraps or other things people throw away. I’ve built a lot of free enclosures out of scrap wood, or extra cynder blocks

    Man never compact the soil with your feet because you destroy the rooting system . Be sure that you put the hibisqus in full sun so you will get a lot of flowers and also do not forget to put some good soil in there

    • @ShadowsReptiles
      @ShadowsReptiles  5 лет назад +1

      Ancient Gaming I am putting the hibiscus where it gets lots of sun so it’ll provide some shade for the torts and I’m using the same soil that I put in there already
