8 or 8.5. It lacks on power, but you can make less powerful cars fun. And being that it's less powerful, you can hone your skills better. It's great to have power, so long as you can use it properly! Driver mods like you said😌
All these years later we still find the need to explain this car. It's a driver's car nearly anyone can have, plain and simple. It has just enough of everything to have fun but most importantly it connects the driver to the machine and the road its treading upon in a very engaging way. They didn't put money in HP and gadgets, it went into a chassis and suspension geometry that puts it in the same class as more expensive cars. The car was also made for tuners to provide a capable and clean canvas to start from. I am so glad they decided to give this platform a new generation and continued support in a time that would make little sense to do so.
Sounds perfect to me. A platform to get into and gradually make enhancements and huge amounts of learning on the way. Very attractive and unique. Also sounds like a little version of the Supra.
I’ve had the new brz since the end of December and honestly love everything about this car. The way it handles the way it looks and the way you can easily shift through gears is great. I’ll give it a 9/10. Only thing I don’t like is the cup holder placements and how there is really no where to put your phone
I have a 2022 brz automatic and I HATE the PCB (pre collision break) you have to turn it off every time you get in the car. I like to swerve in traffic and don’t get me wrong the car is great for turning but when I don’t turn off PCB it auto breaks when I get close to a car to swerve.. it also keeps telling me there’s an obstacle ahead which I AM aware of.. also the seatbelt chime is annoying but everything else is great!

Like i always say, you don't need a lot of power to have fun 🚘
I'm getting a GR86 as an "upgrade" from my motorcycle - so having a heater and A/C, a stereo, cruise control, room for some groceries, and a comfortable seat seems like the height of luxury to me.
The GR86 has a more “drifty” suspension and the BRZ has a more “tight through corner” feel. The GR has a more jumpy throttle body whereas the BRZ’s throttle has a more linear response. There are a lot of more differences between the two then most people think.
The difference in the throttle that you just described is just the different tunes which is pretty easy to change. The biggest difference is that the rear sway bar is attached to the sub frame on the Toyota but it attaches to the body on the Subaru, giving them the different feelings in the corners. Other than that I'm pretty sure all the differences are cosmetic.

I'm a little biased towards the first gen 86/brz but I wait to test drive one of these. This gen is slowly growing on me and when some units become available to test I'm taking it for a whirl for sure.
Haven’t had the chance to drive my BRZ much yet (Wisconsin winters) but it’s a blast so far. It’s a bit more predictable than the s2000 and has more torque. I’m impressed. I give it a solid 9/10.
9/10 I’ve had mine for about a month now, easily the most fun car I’ve ever driven. The way it corners and powers through with that linear NA powerband is amazing. Only thing I dislike is the cup holder placement
I think it’s a 10, it’s gonna be good on gas, maintenance shouldn’t be too bad, it’s RWD (relatability), you’re gonna have amazing customer service from either Subaru or Toyota, and Theres gonna be sooooo many body kits and interior stuff I can’t wait!!!
I'd say the new 86 gets a good 8/10. There's nothing wrong with it as it is, but I think it could have been made better with a typical inline four layout for the sake of weight savings, and replacing the Macpherson struts in the front with dual wishbones. Plus, especially considering the original AE86 had both a coupe and liftback form, I was hoping for a liftback version of the new one. But those are all pretty major changes that had no real chance, so I'm perfectly happy with what we got.
been an owner since mid February. After the first week and a Vegas trip for SoCal, i put an Invidia N2 and Invidia Catless front pipe on. another week passed and i put BC BR coils all around. been driving it like this for a few weeks already, only cause pink gram lights don't look too hot with the square 18x9.5 on 225/45/18. So far loving the car; it's functionally low, sounds fricken great, and loved learning how to drive manual in it. I loved driving my 2017 86 AT with all the same mods and driving experience has really changed from last gen to current. 9.8/10 -.2 no turbo and waiting on EL Headers + Flex Fuel kits
I’d give these a 9.8. These are really really good cars, I think they look really good, not to say that the previous gens looked bad what so ever I thought they also look very beautiful both in their own ways. They have have perfect interiors, good textures at certain touch points, not overdone, not a giant head unit up in the drivers field of view, no gimmicky haptic feedback buttons, available 6-speed, and I got to give Toyota and Subaru props for making a great car still with a stick and also this thing drive very very good according to journalists and a lot of pro drivers and car review RUclipsrs. Great car
If you are seriously considering this car in hopes that you’ll be able to turbo charge, I highly suggest waiting to see how the aftermarket turns out! I can guarantee you that this FA24 is not the same as the turbo variant’s found in the new wrx and the old/new ascent’s wait until someone does a tear down of the engine and identifies the weaknesses of this new platform. Nothing sucks more than buying into a new Platform that is DOA because you can’t do anything to increase power
Almost got one of these but I'm holding out till the end of this year for the GR Corolla, I need that extra cargo and seating space it offers vs the GR86 which is non existent
Power is actually around 250hp (210ish to the wheels) and almost 200ftlb of torque. Can easily get it to 300hp without boost with a good exhaust, tune and E85. Buddy I know with a BRZ 2022 got 277hp at the wheels with those exact mods which cost him less than $1000 and was able to cut the 0-60 time by around 1 second but he also has better tires and suspension.
Stop with the turbo nonsense. I chose this car exactly because it doesn't have one. It's naturally aspirated, manual, rear wheel drive, pure car. That's what this car is all about, driving purity.
They're planning to put the 1.6-liter, three-cylinder, G16E-GTS turbocharged engine from the gr corolla into it so it might come turbocharged after all.
Couldn't agree more about the rear end. I myself also was a little (meh) about the rear, It looked alright? yet no? but yea it kinda worked? but?..... and so on. But after a while, It grew on me.
I've had my 2022 BRZ for a couple years now as a daily driver and regularly running autocross with some light track runs. Started off with a set of RPF1 Enkei's from Fitment wrapped in Azenis. Now rockin' the Potenzas and riding on FA500 Swift coilovers, EBC pads, Perrin sway, and Whiteline rear lower arms and diff bushing kit, drinking E85 with Visconti Flexfuel sensor and EkuTec dyno tuned to 250hp and blowing it out a Nameless dual exhaust while snug as a bug with a 4 point harness. Gonna play with the tranny bushings soon, and already stock piled a Mishimoto racing radiator to pair with next year's oil cooler and Accusump. I rate this car a 10 based on it's combination of performance, handling, and price. Yes there are better sports cars: they cost twice as much or more.
I think the car is a masterpiece it’s refreshing to see somebody build A true sports car that is affordable you don’t need turbos and 600 hp to have fun like he said you need to learn the car and they look awesome slammed with rims omg the possibilities are endless with this car the key thing is it’s a affordable NA RWD sport car with a stick 🙏
I switch from a Porsche Cayman to the GR86 & I actually like it better. The GR86 has more creature comforts and does several things better than the Porsche and is only about 1-1.5 seconds slower in acceleration only. I also don’t have to sell my first born in order to make any mods or repairs.
Lets go! Glad to see a lot of people are switching from what everyone considers prestige brands. Definitely going to be a lot of support coming! -Edgar
If only the GR86 were actually available it would be the no-brainer. Here in the SF Bay Area, my order that I placed in January won't be here until JANUARY 2023! Dealers around here have been saying that there has been zero of them coming in since the start of this year.
GR86 is tops on my list for my next purchase to replace my daily driver. It will definitely be peppier than what I daily right now. I miss shifting and I've not had that ability for over 3 years.
My 2023 BRZ is amazing in all respects, between my 981 PDK boxster and BRZ manual I really have the best of both worlds of naturally aspirated engines that are fun to drive on the streets and on the race track. The only thing I don't like about my new BRZ is the road noise mostly on the freeway.
This will be one of the last japanese rwd coupes with a combustion engine and a manual transmission. I’d rather have an S2000 but I really appreciate this car
Anyone looking to buy this car and can’t test drive, it is significantly quicker than the 1st gen. It is very tail happy! Perfect for anyone getting into drifting or modifying. Great daily driver, Has a lot of “new car features” if you do track this car your first mod will be brakes. Anyone over 6’5” 280+ should look for a bigger car. When ever I get out of it and walk into a store I always look back at it and say.. damn that’s a fine car, totally worth the price but anything over msrp is a rip off. If you find a brz for msrp and want the 86 and there’s an 86 with a 15k mark up you’re paying for a $15,000 bumper styling.
Honestly looking at buying this as my proper next new car in 3-4 years. It's a manual, non-turbo, coupe; a last one of it's kind. Yeah a turbo means more power, it also means more issues & maintenance down the line; an NA car is just nice.
In my Opinion, I'll go with BRZ anytime any generation. Because it's genuine and it's in it's blood, The Boxer. GT86/GR 86 is just a Rebadged and slightly cosmetic changed BRZ.
Kinda funny, some people call the BRZ the more rebadged of the two considering that it was Toyota's idea to build a RWD sports car and that Subaru initally didn't want to get involved with this.
Personally I love them. Gives me real 370Z vibes with the bubbly butt. Aftermarket wheels on them look incredible, but even stock they look really good. Proud of them right now
@@FitmentIndustries I get it in May :( Australia BRZ 1st batch arrived in feb and 2nd batch is in may! Let’s gooo! Let’s party! -Edgar
How much u pay?
I think it’s a 10, it’s gonna be good on gas, maintenance shouldn’t be too bad, it’s RWD (relatability), you’re gonna have amazing customer service from either Subaru or Toyota, and Theres gonna be sooooo many body kits and interior stuff I can’t wait!!!
There’s definitely going to be a lot of support for this platform. -Edgar
Maybe the next variation! Never know. -Edgar
been an owner since mid February.
9.8/10
-.2 no turbo and waiting on EL Headers + Flex Fuel kits
That'll be sick once you complete the build! Keep us updated. -Edgar
I figure as long as they can get some in stock and continue, I don’t see why they wouldn’t be more successful than the first gen.
A lot of people are enjoying the new platform, only a matter of time! -Edgar
Great car
I would 10/10 love to get one but at the moment I'm stuck between should I wait or should I get a 1st gen with face lift 🤩
Get the 22 for sure. The new car is nicer in every way. Its also faster than the last gen even with full bolt ons and e85 tune.
Get the new one to directly support the analogue car. Because its days are numbered.
There's a whole intelligently and well explained video on why the BRZ doesn't need a turbo that's been out for a long time.
I liked because the intro was just about the most relatable thing there was
If you are seriously considering this car in hopes that you’ll be able to turbo charge, I highly suggest waiting to see how the aftermarket turns out!
Good insight to look at! -Edgar
After driving one, I’m 100% sold on them
So when are you picking yours up?! -Edgar
Almost got one of these but I'm holding out till the end of this year for the GR Corolla, I need that extra cargo and seating space it offers vs the GR86 which is non existent
Same, let’s see what happens with the Corolla! -Edgar
good luck getting one for MSRP
One of the best decisions I made, came from a heavy old suv and this is night and day
Any plans for it or anything done so far? -Edgar
Bought one and I am a fan. 9/10
I’m in the process of buying one of these, and I’m stoked as it’s my first budget sports car
Good luck! Where you able to find one somewhere that wasnt crazy sold out then im assuming?! -Edgar
I don't want one, but I like watching Fitment.
Ayeee thanks homie! 🙏🏽 -Edgar
Got my 2022 brz 3 months ago from today. I love it! I owned a 2017 before and the really improved the formula. The looks really grew on me over time.
Glad to hear that homie! 💪💪 -Edgar
Stop with the turbo nonsense. I chose this car exactly because it doesn't have one. It's naturally aspirated, manual, rear wheel drive, pure car. That's what this car is all about, driving purity.
The back end look exactly like my 2015 accord coupe.
They're planning to put the 1.6-liter, three-cylinder, G16E-GTS turbocharged engine from the gr corolla into it so it might come turbocharged after all.
Aiming to get one in November!!
I think this video does a great job explaining what you getting into with the car.
Thanks homie! Appreciate the support, good luck! -Edgar
@@FitmentIndustrieshaha so it took me a while and I finally got mines! Picked it up this Friday! 2024 model!
Couldn't agree more about the rear end.
I myself also was a little (meh) about the rear, It looked alright? yet no? but yea it kinda worked? but?..... and so on.
But after a while, It grew on me.
Grows on everyone! -Edgar
86 for looks, brz for its NOT REUSED OR CARRIED OVER engineering and frame
you should talk one of the boys into getting one of these so we can get some more content
Maybe one baco tell and hot sauce shots night with Dakota might convince me otherwise.. 👀😂 -Edgsr
Alex, please never stop contributing content on Fitment Industries channel.
🍩🍩🍩 -Edgar
One of the best things about this car. Is how easy it is to do your own oil changes.
That’s good news! -Edgar
FYI Zenki: Pre facelift 2013-2016, Kouki: After facelift 2017-2021, Shingata: New type 2022+.
my man edgar really out here answering everyone's comments 👀
Aye wassup! It’s a good time, keeps the time moving. 🤘🏾🤘🏾🤘🏾 haha -Edgar
Ooff.. that’s frigging rough! Hopefully they address that. -Edgar
GR86 is tops on my list for my next purchase to replace my daily driver. It will definitely be peppier than what I daily right now. I miss shifting and I've not had that ability for over 3 years.
i work at toyota so i see there everyday they are a smooth drive and the manual tansmission feels so good
I have a 2022 brz it’s the best car I ever had never had a Subaru and this car is so much fun !
Bought a MT 2023 86 in July. 10/10, would recommend
What about now after a year later?
hah, completely forgot about this comment. But still, 100% yes@@SWEETVENOM100
Owned one since early January and with 5k on it already, easy 10/10.
Ayeee, any big plans for it? -Edgar
@@FitmentIndustries Got some ideas but nothing concrete except some Enkei Kojins in the future
ive never related to a toonami reference so hard in my life.
Bruh when I saw all that the memories flooded in. Great times on toonami and adult swim haha. -Edgar
I got a World Rally Blue BRZ in January. Go get one because they’re stellar and make sure it’s a stick!
"It doesn't look that bad"
I think this car looks really good in every angle, tbh
I was skeptical at first, but it has certainly grown on me too! -Edgar
Love this video..well put together.
💪🏽💪🏽💪🏽 gracias! -Edgar
The only new car that I haven’t seen with a $10k dealer markup
I'm still waiting on mine to come from the factory and I'm so excited and I can't wait for it to get here
MSRP?! -Edgar
Honestly looking at buying this as my proper next new car in 3-4 years.
It's a manual, non-turbo, coupe; a last one of it's kind.
Yeah a turbo means more power, it also means more issues & maintenance down the line; an NA car is just nice.
Owned my gr86 for 2 months now. Love it so much 😍
Ayeee, anything done to it?! Make sure to add to the gallery if it’s done up! -Edgar
www.fitmentindustries.com/add-wheel-offset
Gen 2 is definitely worth it
Cheers to Engineering Explained. 👊🏼
It’s be dope if you could just walk up and buy or order one of these without paying $40k.
That would be the dream!.. but ya know. Supply and demand.. 🥲🥲 -Edgar
TOONAMI ! Classic !!
My favorite! -Edgar
Proud of them right now
yes finally! i just bought one!
How ya liking it? What are the plans? -Edgar
@@FitmentIndustries I get it in May :( Australia BRZ 1st batch arrived in feb and 2nd batch is in may!
Nothing crazy for mods OEM+
- GR86 bootlip (looks too good)
- ofc some coils
- 100% ZE40's but specs for this new gen is a headache with stuff you may need to shave off for flush. So still deciding specs
GR86 doesnt even have a release date in Australia yet...
Somewhere on the planet, right now, as we read this comment section. There is a kid bashing the gr86 and BRZ complaining about the power.
No driver's license... but his plan is to 2JZ swap his mother's minivan and slap on some Te37s. Never mind according to his post, his parents are going to help him import an R34 and he knows a guy that's going to help him get Cali plates.
😂😂😂😂😂 this is a great tale I appreciate. -Edgar
@@FitmentIndustries It's the least I could do. In exchange for all the quality videos you guys post. Is put a smile on your face, I'm glad you saw the humor.
Stay blessed and prosperous guys 💯

Ordered mine two months ago was told 5-6 months till the allocation. This is some of the longest months of my life lol
Will be worth the wait! -Edgar
I ordered mine back in December. Should be here in June!
💪🏽💪🏽💪🏽 ayooo! -Edgar
I just ordered my gr86 a couple days ago. It'll most likely be here in July and I'm very excited
That’s cool you’re still able to order them! With a manual, right? 👀👀👀 -Edgar
