My best friend has around 250k insta followers and her DM's are off. There's NO REASON for Essence to interact with fans in her DM's. You can still have a ton of followers and not talk to everyone. I feel like this is such a cop out on her end. Especially having OF, normally if your fans want to talk to you they talk to you there because it's payed messaging. She's acting like it's normal for influencers to always respond to fans but it's not lol

When they found out the show wanted to meet her, the catfish told her the truth and basically said girl go on the show and say it was you so you can get a lot more followers and fan base.. so that’s why she came on the show herself and said yes that was me, when really it wasn’t her talking to this girl the whole time.. knowing millions of people watch this show she thought by coming on she would become more famous

How many dead ends do they hit when they 1. pick a catfished person, 2. meet them and get the rundown and 3. finally find the catfish just to have them say “nah I don’t wanna meet y’all”. I think you need to start talking to the people being Catfished. It’s a more difficult conversation. People Catfish because they have issues and are lonely - we get that. But what makes these regular ass people think they are talking supermodels or celebrities. What type of delusion is going on. This needs to be addressed.
If you're interested, look into the subject of limerance. I think on some level these people know that the true love fantasy won't come true, and that makes it easier for them to invest themselves in it when maybe they don't feel like they can trust, or even deserve actual love. It's like a dysfunctional crush for traumatized adults.
Plus, it's much easier to fall for the idealized version of someone that you can create by not really knowing them.
