I can relate. My mum has been my hero since forever and the same thing happened to us, it was me and her and then my little sister against the world. Life is not fair though 😢 I lost her to cancer a year ago, she was only 40 years old 💔 my world stopped making sense.
The main girl in this, Clare was in my class in acting college for three years (weirdly so was the first person she speaks to, Laura. Both of them were always, by far, the most professional actresses in my class. They forced everyone to up their game and I'm not surprised at all Clare has become successful. I still have a letter from her she wrote me when I was in college so its so sweet to see someone so decent and hard-working accomplishing something like this.
I was hooked from the beginning, but when she asked that question...I was floored! I know that question had to have been asked before. It was just quickly and quietly swept under the rug because a woman asked it! SMH!!!! Hopefully more movies like this will begin to make a difference; especially with the additional abuse, that is taking place because of the pandemic.
@@Poleeze1 you sound like someone who has no idea how hard it is to leave someone you have children with and has manipulated and brainwashed you into feeling too small and weak to leave. It’s fear.
The worst part, is the courts put the victim and abuser in one room, exposing them and their plans. The courts forces the abused to expose their plans, enabling the abuser. I know it’s “part of the process” but courts truly do not help in these circumstances. The abuser should NOT be allowed to hear the victims plans to better her life...and the lives of the child(ren) involved. I’ve experienced this. It’s worse because they FORCE you to be vulnerable in front of your abuser, if you win, it angers them and knowing your plans, allows them to further abuse. The courts need to be more sensitive in domestic abuse situations. Great movie. Heartbreaking, but an overall true depiction of manipulation and narcissism. He was never about the children, but punishing her for not allowing his abuse and freeing herself. A must watch, but get your tissues and Xanax ready.

To anyone that has been a victim of abuse I'm sorry. For abuse to be a problem of the scale that it is with the funding that supports it is unacceptable. Women, children and men are all victimized by the courts for the cycle to continue the way it does. Sometimes movies like this help with awareness but too often they do not look at the root cause....a judiciary industry that profits from it's existence.
Whoever tells editors to make trailers this way, fire them. It's FAR too long and spoils way too much. I reached 1:49 and felt I'd already seen too much.

she needs to cover the birthmark. its too distracting, it makes you realise that its Claire Dunne and not the character. Why would you not just sit in the make up chair for an extra hour, its pure vanity. Im not saying birthmarks shouldnt be seen, of course not, it looks pretty but its too distinctive. it stops the actor inhabiting the role properly imho
So where's the story of the good father who deals with a biased court that favors the mother over the father? Even when the mother is the dysfunctional abuser.
You are right. Although not as common, women do abuse men too. And men can definitely get screwed over with the courts. Not the case in my family. My ex brother-in-law is an abusive loser. But I do know this happens. Kids are always the ones that lose in these situations.

This film reminds me of my mum and how she found the courage to leave my dad and run away with me and built a life for us. Just me and her ❤️
A happy ending💖
Interesting!! I suggested same and some people said that’s when most women are killed 🤷🏿♂️

Yes!
Is this available on amazon prime UK? As I cannot find it on amazon prime anywhere
I found it on BFI fare, one of the subscription channels on amazon
You can also watch it on you tube 😊
what is this song
So did they rebuild the house?
Yeah they build it and her ex burns it down
So, they build it and off-screen her ex burns it down? Or did he burn down that old woman’s house? Don’t have time to watch the full movie.
