  • As you wonder how Tai Chi Push Hands can be applied in practical usage, you may have searched for advanced techniques and more complex patterns. Aside from Tai Chi though, when you consider other skillful activities like basketball, soccer, boxing, wrestling, what do you recognize to be the key to being able to perform them well? It's how well you dribble the ball, utilize the jab punch, perform the take down, isn't it?
    Similarly, mastery of the first push hand pattern, the Single Hand Pattern, is the key to not only applying it, but also the key to unlocking ALL 8 Tai Chi Energies in usage. So before we move on to the double hand patterns, which represent more the grappling & pummeling aspects of Tai Chi, let's explore all the hidden treasures in the Single Hand Pattern, and experience how it can turbocharge your skills!
    This video is a part of the Tai Chi Push Hands Mastery series about utilizing Tai Chi skills. Check out the first in the series here:

      Thank you! These are the teachings passed down by the inner door members from the time of Yang Jianhou and Yang Shaohou. I wanted to share them so that we can all enjoy Tai Chi at a higher and deeper level. Thank you for the comment!

    Linking into your Peng video, once you’ve balanced out your donut of yin and yang, I found that Peng contained rollback and visa versa, with potential for other energies. Basically they start to mix and what appears yang is actually yin and again in reverse.

      Super great comment! It's amazing how you can begin to experience the Yin Yang symbol as a real representation of the transformations and energies in your body, isn't it?

    Does it matter which feet are in front whilst you doing single push hand using the right hand?

      Start with whichever is more relating and comfortable and then eventually work on both. 😃🙌

    As you turn the waist, is that elbow energy in conjunction with Liu?

    • @phoenixmountaintaichi
      @phoenixmountaintaichi  10 месяцев назад +3

      Yes that's right. Elbow and Lu works together in that your elbow is where your intention goes to direct your opponent. If your intention is in your hand or forearms it is easy to get too tight and stiff. It's possible, especially as your skill with Yi improves but it's helpful to start in an easier setup, is it not? And then Lu adds the intention of elongating their movement, inviting them in deeper beyond their balance, both physically and mentally, so that you can gain the upper hand. Good question!

    When the word "float" is used in taiji, is it referring to the unbalanced state of the partner who has lost their balance? That they are "floating" in that unbalanced state?
    Or if I may use a Japanese word here so I can relate to anything familiar, is it like what one experiences during "kuzushi" with Aikido, Judo, Jiu Jitsu etc? Not so much the actual taking of one's balance but that state of...well, floating, that is experienced? Is that what float kinda means in taiji? Thank you Sifu.

    • @phoenixmountaintaichi
      @phoenixmountaintaichi  4 месяца назад +1

      Yes that's a very good way of putting it! Causing them to experience a sensation of floating, a loss of anchoring, so that when they seek to regain their balance, they knowingly or unknowingly attach to you and become susceptible to you. Thank you for asking a great question!

    Sifu, I would like to increase the strength of my Yi projection. I do Qi Gong every day with my focus on the horizon but in testing, with more experienced, the Yi just seem stuck at the person rather than beyong them. Is there any solo exericses that can help with this?

    • @phoenixmountaintaichi
      @phoenixmountaintaichi  3 месяца назад

      Ah! The key is that your intent is where you awareness goes, so when you let go of worrying about the person, your awareness is free from them. And as your awareness goes to the horizon, so will your Yi. See if this helps you, let me know what you experience!

    Do you have drills/applications for the 8 energies? (Other than push hands)

    • @phoenixmountaintaichi
      @phoenixmountaintaichi  10 месяцев назад +3

      That's a really good question! Because before we learned to write sentences we learned words first, and specific exercises to improve each word is helpful isn't it? If fighting is like a conversation, then the long form is like a story book, push hands are like common phrases and sentences, and the energies, the words. We do practice drills for each of the 8 energies to build a solid and intuitive foundation. Maybe a series of videos on them will be a good idea! Thank you for the inspiration. 🙏
