Guys, unless you are planning to stay in the PH for less than a month, I would not recommend riding a bike on the whole country, because you won't find the right parts for your bike if you break down on the roads. If you do plan on staying in the PH for over a month, I suggest you get a hold of KULAS ( Becoming Pilipino ) and get valuable advice from him before you plan to trek the country. Why Kulas? its because he has done it. He managed to trek & vlog ALL 81 provinces ( 17 regions ) of the PH via scooter, but it did take him a few years to accomplish this feat. Although it is quite easy to renew your VISA to stay longer in the PH, I recommend that you converse with experienced You Tubers like Kulas, and always set itineraries way in advance.
I think one of the reasons why Filipinos are very friendly and family oriented is because there are just too many of us in one small country. We're always surrounded by people so we can't help but be nice to each other 😂. Anyway, the Pan-Philippine Hi-way is not just one long stretch of road. You would still need to ride ferries to reach some islands. I don't think it's very safe to tour the country on a bike as there are still some lawless elements around. Also, many far-flung places do not have many gas stations and repair shops. And yeah, do explore Manila. Many people consider it dirty and unsafe but Manila has a lot to offer in terms of history. Just take care of your belongings, be aware of your surroundings, and remain friendly. It's where you can really feel the pulse of the Philippines.
There are even people who spend time n the night of 31st November in the cemetery or memorial gardens just to light candles, pray and remember closed families, bonding together.
It might be interesting to note that Filipinos are fond of "inventing" new words. For example we understand if you say ERMAT (MOTH ER) or ERPAT (FATH ER). Infact expressions are evolving from generations to generation. For example the expression "SANA ALL" meaning "WISHING IT'S FOR ALL" came about maybe from a joke we hear in a movie or a phrase we hear in a song and it gets viral through social media. It becomes a fad and everyone starts using those expressions or phrases and eventually they become integrated in our daily communication. That's how language evolved in the Philippines. We always find something to AMUSE ourselves that's why Filipinos are always smiling and happy, SANA ALL.
few clarifications 😊 we dont serve bugs or insects here, it's mostly in thailand and china. you were also wondering why people eat those, it's rich in protein that's why and they said it tasted pretty good 😅. sisig is also not restricted with pig ears, it can be made with other parts of pork and some are even made with chicken. i don't know how they do it in mexico but we don't dig up our relatives during day of the dead 😅. we do spend time with them by going to their graves and just stay for the day hanging out with the whole family. you probably know this by now but yes we do have the longest celebration for christmas, it starts during ber months ( september - december ) up until the first week of january. since Philippines is predominantly catholic, celebrating the birth of Jesus is a big occasion. some countries celebrate with their partners and spend christmas quite similar with valentines, here we celebrate it with family :)

A warning is given if typhoon, earthquake, volcanic erruption is coming. A government agency here is tasked to inform the public about certain calamity that will come so that the people can prepare and evacuate if needed. We are used to it but despite those hardships we tend to bounce back and start all over again. That's the Filipino spirit.

When it's detected it doesn't mean it's gonna happen. It's an indication that there might be an earthquake to happen and that's a signal and prediction. It can happen or it might not depending on the strength of the shake.

Hello D & J duo, just to clarify, the Pan-Philippine Highway (Maharlika Highway) is not that all "road" connected. Some parts are still separated and can be reached thru the roll-on/roll-off (RORO) ferry boat transport, one in the port of Matnog , Sorsogon (southern part of Luzon) to the port of Allen, Samar (Eastern Visayas) which is connected to Leyte via the San Junanico Bridge, then the 2nd ferry ride will be from the port in Tacloban Leyte (sourthern part of Eastern Visayas) going to the port in Lipata, Surigao (northern part of Mindanao). The linking bridges of the islands are still "in the works".
If you'd like context about our typhoons/hurricanes. The philippines has its own typhoon detection system which leads to some international typhoons having two names. For example, what the world knows as Haiyan the pinoys know as "Yolanda". Since each typhoon is named for one of the 26 letters of the alphabet, while the rest of the world was on the letter H, PH was already 17 typhoons ahead and using the letter Y.
don't worry in the Philippines there's only those barbecues, fishballs, isaw(pork or chicken intestines) one day old(its like balut but in skewer) kwek kwek(fried quail 3ggs coated with orange color batter) for Street foods, i've only seen those exotic street foods you mentioned in Thailand and Vietnam.... Zamboanga City and some areas in Cavite has the Spanish-based creole language, CHAVACANO. Currently the only city that's preserving the language is Zamboanga City which is the only city in Asia that speaks the language. I was born in raised in Zamboanga City but I'm living in Cebu now.
yeahh.. no... pan phil highway WAS designed to be the longest highway but was stopped coz of president change... so no bridge/undeground tunnel were ever built. if youre crossing to another island. you can ride a ferry with your vehicle.
I think there are some provinces here who offer crickets and some bugs as food but not really a part of our culture. Balut/Balot is quite an exotic one for me already and I haven't tried that (or will never try) hahaha! I only tried Frog legs when I visited my parents' hometown and it tasted like chicken.

Usually, "ba" is used to denote a question as in 'Kumain ka na ba?' which translates to 'Have you eaten?' vs 'Kumain ka na.' which is more like a statement, not a question. The tunnel linking the pan pacific highway is incorrect. There are no tunnels. What we have are ferries that crosses between the islands we call RORO (roll on - roll off). So if your travelling by Bus, car, truck or Motorcycle from Luzon to Mindanao it will be a ferry ride from Sorsogon in luzon to Northern Samar then another ferry from Southern Leyte to Surigao City in Mindanao. If your travelling by motorcycle you are not allowed to use the expressways unless it has a 400cc engine or higher.
Yeah true that we experience a lot of typhoon or storms but not all of it are destructive. Some would just bring rains or even none. We have been resilient with these natural calamities. We have our weather bureau PAGASA that warns us.
In the Philippines All Saints day (day of the dead) is when you spend time at cemeteries to honor your ancestors. We don't exhume them. There are indigenous people in the Indonesian region that bring their recently departed on a special day to honor them as well.
There's a documentary video of Mt. Pinatubo in the Philippines when it errupted before. The scientists kinda know and had warned people months before it errupted, so even if it's one of the strongest erruptions in history, there's only few recorded deaths of about 300+ or less i guess. It's really a good documentary because they show how they kinda analyzed and predicted the eruption and it's potential impact.
The few hundreds of death rate I'm talking about here is from the volcanic eruption alone, but unfortunately, a lot of calamities had also happened that time including the earthquakes and super typhoon which adds to the damages and death toll.

Hurricanes and Typhoons are basically the same, they are just called different depending on the region, Hurricanes for the atlantic and east pacific, typhoons in the west pacific, and cyclones in the indian ocean and parts of australia. Strength wise they are just both the same, typhoons can turn into super typhoons which are category 5 hurricanes, super typhoon haiyan (yolanda in local philippines) would have been a category 6 if there was one since it was at 195 mph second only to hurricane patricia which was at 215mph, but since there isn't it was listed still at cat 5.

An island in a lake in an island - this refers to Taal Volcano in BAtangas Province. The main crater is in Taal Lake , the crater also has water which surrounds vents in the crater. That is why it is described like that.

The Philippines has one of the best Meteorologists in the world and even foreign scientists come for training. We are well adapted to cyclones because we usually have 20-25 typhoons each year. We are usually in charge of naming typhoons technically lol. When a meteorologist says there would be a thunderstorm today for about an hour long, it would be exactly an hour long lol.
It is not advisable to drive motorcycle in the Philippines for that long trip. I am part Filipino and I live in the Philippines my entire life. I love my country but I have to warn you about the insane vehicle accidents that happened everywhere in the country. Most of the time, it includes motorcycles and around 50% of the time, the driver dies on the spot. It's like a collision of motorcycle and truck. There's a blind spot for truck driver and since there is no motorcycle lane, accident happens. Mostly, it's because motorcycle drivers break traffic rules too and there is no 1 meter distance. We call it here, "1-inch 1-inch". Basically, when driving in heavy traffic, the distance between vehicles are almost 1 inch only (it's kind of an exaggeration but you get my point).
We are all considered Bisaya /Visayan😉 ( Waray, Cebuano speakers & Hiligaynon). I speak the main Visayan “Cebuano” dialect ( just 40 minutes away from Ormoc). I can also speak Waray and Ilonggo😉

The Philippines street food does not include scorpions, bugs, rats, or any thing like those. Those are common in Thailand, Viet nam, Cambodia or Laos. Cheers.
4:53 lol in manila 3 km can take 3 hours if you're unlucky and decided to travel during rush hour😛 and remember some of those streets aren't going to be like the regular streets we see over here where you travel at 70mph. lots of scenic routes so make sure you account for all that distance etc 19:02 - languages are developed when a particular region's language evolves into a different variety turning into dialects. when the dialect continues to evolve, it becomes so differnt that they no longer could mutually understand each other. this is when a language turns into a language. So for example - latin would be like the mother tongue and you could say that spanish and italian were evolved into their own dialect and at which it turned into a language as they can't understand each other any longer. With the languages in the Philippines, they're mostly Austronesian, so whatever was that mother tongue, it evolved to the languages we have today. If you analyze the way Filipino and Malay is spoken with the structure etc, it's very similar, but not quite. Regarding the Valley girl way of speaking, those are accents which in someway also related to dialect, but i would relate dialect to something like Australian english and US english as dialects.
Been to the three volcanoes, Taal volcano, Mt. Pinatubo and Mayon Volcano. Each destination offers different adventures so, it’s always a good addition to your bucket list. Also, Sagada is a gorgeous place where you can also do spelunking. If you plan to go to Palawan, make sure to go to Coron where you can also dip into a saltwater hot spring in addition to other activities you can do. There are many more but I’ll leave it at that. I’ve heard a place that sells deep-fried crickets or a kind of worm, a place where they eat a sort of coconut wood worm…but those are exotic foods.

Exotic foods like you've mentioned cockroach, tarantula, scorpion is not Philippines, maybe China and other countries in Asia. Though I know some natives in the Ph eat a specific type of frog and rat the ones found in the woods and muntain farms but it is not like a common or normal food for Filipinos also with regards to the place called Camiguin which was mentioned as having more volcanoes than towns those are inactive volcanoes .
If you will ride Pan Philippine highway you will be brutal to your self😂. Consider traffic to your ride as well. Don't do it...😂...If you will go to Philippines, you should experience the worse to better...Just be open minded and enjoy...❤
actually, a dormant volcano is more dangerous because of the built up pressure. kinda like a pipe without a gauge valve versus one with a gauge valve. Much better to have one as active as Mt. Mayon versus a "sleeping" giant cos at least woth Mayon, there's warnings. imo.
Sisig can be made of something else aside from pig ears. Some make it with just pork belly. When you come to Asia, you need to keep an open mind. Otherwise, you'll be missing out on a lot of dishes that won't sound/look appetizing but are actually darn delicious. 😉
All those insects are in street stalls in Thailand. I stood.in front of one such stall when we visited Thailand, but the most I could do was take photos. 😂 Here, I know of only tribes in thhe jungle that actually eat what they can catch.
Some place in the ph actually eat crickets, specifically central luzon but it is an exotic food so you will not find it easily. I am from pampanga and i enjoy adobong kamaro(crickets) and batute(deep fried stuffed frog) once in a while.

There's literally nothing wrong with eating insects...they are healthier than the chemical burgers americans eat.
It might be interesting to note that Filipinos are fond of "inventing" new words. For example we understand if you say ERMAT (MOTH ER) or ERPAT (FATH ER). Infact expressions are evolving from generations to generation. For example the expression "SANA ALL" meaning "WISHING IT'S FOR ALL" came about maybe from a joke we hear in a movie or a phrase we hear in a song and it gets viral through social media. It becomes a fad and everyone starts using those expressions or phrases and eventually they become integrated in our daily communication. That's how language evolved in the Philippines. We always find something to AMUSE ourselves that's why Filipinos are always smiling and happy, SANA ALL.

we dont serve bugs or insects here, it's mostly in thailand and china. you were also wondering why people eat those, it's rich in protein that's why and they said it tasted pretty good 😅. sisig is also not restricted with pig ears, it can be made with other parts of pork and some are even made with chicken.
i don't know how they do it in mexico but we don't dig up our relatives during day of the dead 😅. we do spend time with them by going to their graves and just stay for the day hanging out with the whole family.
you probably know this by now but yes we do have the longest celebration for christmas, it starts during ber months ( september - december ) up until the first week of january. since Philippines is predominantly catholic, celebrating the birth of Jesus is a big occasion. some countries celebrate with their partners and spend christmas quite similar with valentines, here we celebrate it with family :)

Hello D & J duo, just to clarify, the Pan-Philippine Highway (Maharlika Highway) is not that all "road" connected. Some parts are still separated and can be reached thru the roll-on/roll-off (RORO) ferry boat transport, one in the port of Matnog , Sorsogon (southern part of Luzon) to the port of Allen, Samar (Eastern Visayas) which is connected to Leyte via the San Junanico Bridge, then the 2nd ferry ride will be from the port in Tacloban Leyte (sourthern part of Eastern Visayas) going to the port in Lipata, Surigao (northern part of Mindanao). The linking bridges of the islands are still "in the works".

If you'd like context about our typhoons/hurricanes. The philippines has its own typhoon detection system which leads to some international typhoons having two names. For example, what the world knows as Haiyan the pinoys know as "Yolanda". Since each typhoon is named for one of the 26 letters of the alphabet, while the rest of the world was on the letter H, PH was already 17 typhoons ahead and using the letter Y.

This is a really wonderful video that I have probably viewed a hundred times every time a new vlogger would watch it.
In the West, severe thunderstorms are called "hurricane" and in the East it is called "typhoon " which were derived from the Chinese words "Tai Feng" meaning "Big Winds". But yeah, hurricanes and typhoons are pretty much the same thing, depends on where you live in the world.

Usually, "ba" is used to denote a question as in 'Kumain ka na ba?' which translates to 'Have you eaten?' vs 'Kumain ka na.' which is more like a statement, not a question. There are no underground tunnels connecting the islands. But you ferry yourself and your vehicle to the islands.
Philippine loop is one of my dream, but the islands are not actually connected. you have to take a RoRo(roll on/roll off) ship to get to the other island. from Matnog to Samar island and Panoan Island to Surigao.

The tunnel linking the pan pacific highway is incorrect. There are no tunnels. What we have are ferries that crosses between the islands we call RORO (roll on - roll off). So if your travelling by Bus, car, truck or Motorcycle from Luzon to Mindanao it will be a ferry ride from Sorsogon in luzon to Northern Samar then another ferry from Southern Leyte to Surigao City in Mindanao. If your travelling by motorcycle you are not allowed to use the expressways unless it has a 400cc engine or higher.

There's a documentary video of Mt. Pinatubo in the Philippines when it errupted before. The scientists kinda know and had warned people months before it errupted, so even if it's one of the strongest erruptions in history, there's only few recorded deaths of about 300+ or less i guess. It's really a good documentary because they show how they kinda analyzed and predicted the eruption and it's potential impact.
The few hundreds of death rate I'm talking about here is from the volcanic eruption alone, but unfortunately, a lot of calamities had also happened that time including the earthquakes and super typhoon which adds to the damages and death toll.

Also, we don't dig up our dead on all saints/souls day, we just visit them in the cemetery. Also, i wouldn't advise you guys to take a bike all the way to mindanao via pan phl highway. Hurricanes and Typhoons are basically the same, they are just called different depending on the region, Hurricanes for the atlantic and east pacific, typhoons in the west pacific, and cyclones in the indian ocean and parts of australia. Strength wise they are just both the same, typhoons can turn into super typhoons which are category 5 hurricanes, super typhoon haiyan (yolanda in local philippines) would have been a category 6 if there was one since it was at 195 mph second only to hurricane patricia which was at 215mph, but since there isn't it was listed still at cat 5.

The Philippines has one of the best Meteorologists in the world and even foreign scientists come for training. We are well adapted to cyclones because we usually have 20-25 typhoons each year. We are usually in charge of naming typhoons technically lol. When a meteorologist says there would be a thunderstorm today for about an hour long, it would be exactly an hour long lol.

It is not advisable to drive motorcycle in the Philippines for that long trip. I am part Filipino and I live in the Philippines my entire life. I love my country but I have to warn you about the insane vehicle accidents that happened everywhere in the country. Most of the time, it includes motorcycles and around 50% of the time, the driver dies on the spot. It's like a collision of motorcycle and truck. There's a blind spot for truck driver and since there is no motorcycle lane, accident happens. Mostly, it's because motorcycle drivers break traffic rules too and there is no 1 meter distance. We call it here, "1-inch 1-inch". Basically, when driving in heavy traffic, the distance between vehicles are almost 1 inch only (it's kind of an exaggeration but you get my point).

I speak the main Visayan “Cebuano” dialect ( just 40 minutes away from Ormoc).
I can also speak Waray and Ilonggo😉

Cebuano is just the widely spoken Bisaya dialect it’s the Lingua Franca of all Visayans😉 just like Tagalog is in the Tagalog region.
The Philippines street food does not include scorpions, bugs, rats, or any thing like those. Those are common in Thailand, Viet nam, Cambodia or Laos. Cheers.

4:53 lol in manila 3 km can take 3 hours if you're unlucky and decided to travel during rush hour😛 and remember some of those streets aren't going to be like the regular streets we see over here where you travel at 70mph. lots of scenic routes so make sure you account for all that distance etc 19:02 - languages are developed when a particular region's language evolves into a different variety turning into dialects. when the dialect continues to evolve, it becomes so differnt that they no longer could mutually understand each other. this is when a language turns into a language. So for example - latin would be like the mother tongue and you could say that spanish and italian were evolved into their own dialect and at which it turned into a language as they can't understand each other any longer. With the languages in the Philippines, they're mostly Austronesian, so whatever was that mother tongue, it evolved to the languages we have today. If you analyze the way Filipino and Malay is spoken with the structure etc, it's very similar, but not quite. Regarding the Valley girl way of speaking, those are accents which in someway also related to dialect, but i would relate dialect to something like Australian english and US english as dialects.

Been to the three volcanoes, Taal volcano, Mt. Pinatubo and Mayon Volcano. Each destination offers different adventures so, it’s always a good addition to your bucket list. Also, Sagada is a gorgeous place where you can also do spelunking. If you plan to go to Palawan, make sure to go to Coron where you can also dip into a saltwater hot spring in addition to other activities you can do. There are many more but I’ll leave it at that. Have fun, guys.
PS We do not eat cockroaches nor scorpions…😨 And if there are some people eating insects, it’s not a very common thing. I’ve heard a place that sells deep-fried crickets or a kind of worm, a place where they eat a sort of coconut wood worm…but those are exotic foods.

Exotic foods like you've mentioned cockroach, tarantula, scorpion is not Philippines, maybe China and other countries in Asia. Though I know some natives in the Ph eat a specific type of frog and rat the ones found in the woods and muntain farms but it is not like a common or normal food for Filipinos also with regards to the place called Camiguin which was mentioned as having more volcanoes than towns those are inactive volcanoes .

actually, a dormant volcano is more dangerous because of the built up pressure. kinda like a pipe without a gauge valve versus one with a gauge valve. Much better to have one as active as Mt. Mayon versus a "sleeping" giant cos at least woth Mayon, there's warnings. imo.

Sisig can be made of something else aside from pig ears. Some make it with just pork belly. When you come to Asia, you need to keep an open mind. Otherwise, you'll be missing out on a lot of dishes that won't sound/look appetizing but are actually darn delicious. 😉

All those insects are in street stalls in Thailand. I stood.in front of one such stall when we visited Thailand, but the most I could do was take photos. 😂

Some place in the ph actually eat crickets, specifically central luzon but it is an exotic food so you will not find it easily. I am from pampanga and i enjoy adobong kamaro(crickets) and batute(deep fried stuffed frog) once in a while.
