Amidst the folk phenom in the 60s in college I'd heard his name, almost whispered by friends who said he was the really serious folk singer, the intellectual, the thinking person's singer. Yet I didn't really hear his oeuvre until the internet and RUclips, decades after his death. But the songs are still timely-alas.
Phil Ochs was the best thing to ever happen to the singer/songwriter genre (and, unfortunately, Bob Dylan was the worst thing to ever happen to Phil Ochs). But this was a wonderful tribute to perhaps the most talented writer/performer of his generation.
RIP Phil. Your message lives on, and I hope someday soon we finally find the peace you and so many others spent their live's fighting for.

Phil is the best thing that ever happened to America. But all martyrs die. 😔
i just like hin + his songs !
12 years on RUclips and 12 comments. Pretty much says what really matters in America. Not much. Thanks for the video. Sweet sorrow.
Brilliant, committed and courageous. Encouraging that America can produce someone like Phil Ochs.
Just never forget that America also destroyed Phil...

This is a great montage. I enjoyed seeing Phil's before-song patter when he was on David Frost...
thank you for posting this...
Fantastic Montage, I love it. Well done!
Nice seeing some of the Midnight Special performance with Jim Glover, and just as nice to see the Curtis Mayfield intro to it too!
'Changes'....that was another favourite of The Young Folk....didn't realize its origin...but the Youngbloods did a tune...?
Phil wrote it at the time his family broke apart and his wife and child moved to the West Coast.
Where is that recording of I'm Goanna say it now from? He sounds dank there
He sang in support of the Free Speech Movement at UC-Berkley, CA. 1964-65, hence the theme of the song.
