  • Action comes in all shapes and sizes. A quietly spoken man from the southern American became a huge force in the creation of the perfect action sequence. CAREY LOFTIN was relied upon by many directors to get the job done. Here we celebrate two of his outings as coordinator. 'It's A Mad Mad Mad Mad World' from 1963 and 'Bullitt' from 1968.

Cracking video Jon. It's always fascinating to revisit the creation of the "Bullitt" car chase.
The examination of "Its A Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World" was a real eye-opener. It's a real joy to see the depth and breadth of expertise on display. Amazing stuff! Thank you.

There was a rumor that in the "Bullit" chase, when they enter the freeway you'll see a convertible( Chevy Impala) drive past Mustang. The rumor was a civilian got thru in THAT car, and they left it in final. Speaking of Loftin....by all means eventually do "On the Beach" from 1959 and the sports car race Carey executed!!! Simply AMAZING!!!!

There is a fantastic sequence when terry-Thomas and Milton Berle are in a Chevy and Dick Shawn is in a Dodge convertible crashing against each other then crashing down a bank .

For the record Bill Hickman did some uncredited stunt driving , specifically the final car chase through Long Beach, CA in ‘It’s A Mad Mad Mad Mad World’ (‘63). Bill also had many small roles in TV & feature films during the ‘50s & ‘60s.

There's a scene in Bullitt which shows a camera view from behind Bud Ekin's shoulder when he drives against incoming traffic - that is the fastest I've ever seen a stuntman turn a steering wheel😂.

Brilliant video, as ever. Is it true that Carey was uncredited for Bullitt because he was under contract with Disney at the time for making The Love Bug?
It’s worth a look at this video too:
    ruclips.net/video/6W04isvjS4k/видео.htmlsi=j2xX0EpoHsNDFo1W
4:19 checking the engine of Herbie #2, the Porsche 356 engined car
21:41 in the blind driver car
22:25 tow and release like the Bullitt petrol station scene
25:45 Carey driving and Max Balchowsky doubling Buddy Hackett
29:50 some of the high speed scenes. A few shot in real races (I don’t know who was driving, probably Carey) and the staged races with him driving.
30:11 to 32:37 talking about Carey
    34:13 racing speeds
Keep doing what you do, it’s great!
