As football fans, we really need to start putting more respect on Rodrygo’s name as he’s genuinely an elite winger and anyone who doesn’t rate him, I’m sorry, but you don’t watch football. This is a bit of an unpopular opinion, but from a pure talent perspective, he’s on the same level as Vinicius Junior Jude Bellingham and Kylian Mbappe and it’s very obvious especially if he’s put on a team where he’s the main man and is guaranteed to play in his best position which is on the left wing. The reason why no one talks about it is because nobody is talking about him on a regular basis and he’s the one who constantly gets overlooked despite the fact that he’s providing an impact on the team in a lot of games. Sometimes he’s a player that I feel bad for in a sense that no matter how well he plays, he’s in the shadow of a lot of superstars at Real Madrid and that’s a testament to how star studded they are.
I’m not trying to compare them, but this reminds me of Neymar’s time at Barcelona where even if he scores 50+ goals a season, it was never enough for him to get out of Lionel Messi’s shadow which is why he left in 2017 and we’re seeing the same thing with Rodrygo at Real Madrid as even if he’s the one who’s cooking, he’s in the shadow of 3 players (Vini Bellingham and Mbappe), even when he had an excellent performance against Stuttgart in the Champions League, even Endrick was getting talked about much more than him despite the fact that most of the time, he doesn’t even play until the last 10 minutes of a game. Irrespective of his stats not being as prolific as we would expect from a “world class winger”, I mean, he had 17 goals and 9 assists 26 G/A in all competitions yet wasn’t even nominated for the Ballon Dor and what’s impressive about the numbers he put up is the fact that most of the time, he’s not even playing in his natural position. This season, despite all the talk about him potentially leaving the club, he has been producing the goods on the pitch and in recent weeks for club and country, he has been chipping in with goals and assists without even playing in his proper position and I know he’s one of the most versatile players in the world and he can play anywhere whether it’s as a right winger, CAM, or a center forward, most of his best performances for Real Madrid have come as a left winger which is his best position unfortunately he has 2 players who play in the exact same role as him. When it comes to Rodrygo, we can’t forget the R in his name (only the fools forget that) alongside (VBM, Vini Bellingham and Mbappe), as he belongs in this star studded attack and it’s time for us to start putting more respect on his name and when talking about those guys, we can’t keep overlooking him as we’re basically ignoring him and are treating him as if he’s another player.

Kylian Mbappe’s recent form and the goal he scored yesterday could be a sign of things to come as he’s slowly getting comfortable in this system with every passing game and he put in a very good performance for the most part. Anyone who said that he ghosted probably didn’t watch the game. Anyways, despite the fact that he’s not even at his best and technically he’s playing out of position, he still has 7 goals and an assist in 9 games and this is impressive as he failed to score in his first 3 games in La Liga, he has now scored in 5 consecutive games (6 goals) and all 5 goals that he scored in the league have come in his last 4 games. I get it, we can say “oh he’s a penalty merchant” since it’s true that he scored a couple of penalties, at the end of the day, a goal is a goal and as an attacker, getting a goal is very important for their confidence. With all the talent and ability that Mbappe has, people need to realize that football isn’t just about being flashy and as long as he’s doing his job which is scoring goals, that’s what many Madrid fans care about. Given his role in the team, he’s going to score a different variety of goals: (penalties, tap ins, headers, close range, volleys, bangers, long range), would’ve said free kicks, oh wait, I forgot that he has never scored a single free kick in his career even though he’s 25 years old and has taken a lot of them. I feel like football fans are too reactionary and they literally jump into conclusions so quickly in a sense that Mbappe is struggling to score goals in La Liga after 3 games, “he’s a flop, washed at 25, past his prime, Madrid got a finished version of him, he’ll score less than 10 goals, he doesn’t know how to dribble anymore he’s made them a worse team compared to last season etc” and as I said before, yes he has scored a couple of penalties, in recent games, he’s been in better scoring form regardless and with all of the chances that he was getting, it was inevitable that the goals were going to come for him. The thing with him is that at Real Madrid, he’s on the biggest club in the world meaning that there’s more eyes on him as when people are watching him week in week out, he is under the microscope irrespective of how he plays as he needs to put in good performances and score goals on a regular basis and on top of that, as we saw in the first couple of games of the season, Mbappe has found out that playing in La Liga is much different from Ligue 1 as he hasn’t been able to dominate in a way people expected from him initially, he’s going to adapt to the way in which this league is played and also yes he can play as a striker, in this system, he’s adapting to a role that realistically speaking isn’t even his best position. He’ll be the top scorer in La Liga and will score at least 30+ goals in all competitions this season and as soon as Mbappe is fully comfortable in this team, he’s going to start delivering with consistency.
Real Madrid have the most spoiled fans in the world and when I say this, I’m not even joking. Even after their team wins a game, no matter how many goals they score, there has some negativity about the team even though there were moments in the game yesterday where they actually played well and for the most part, there isn’t any reason to be upset expect for when they almost blew a 3 goal lead as on any given day they would’ve dropped points as they conceded 2 goals in the last minute of the game and basically survived a late scare and they know that they can’t get away with this when they play against better teams, they still managed to come away with a win which is all that matters. They finally scored a couple of goals in the first half which is something that was lacking from this team all season and we saw glimpses of what they could truly look like when they’re all able to play together with ease and as soon as they were up by 3 goals, we all thought that it would be a walk in the park as they looked as if they would secure an easy and convincing win, only for them to concede 2 goals late in the game against a team that didn’t even test them for most of the game and as soon as they had a big lead they took their foot off the gas and at this level, they can’t do that.
This is the opposite of what we’ve seen from Real Madrid this season, excellent in the first half, shaky in the 2nd half. Nobody is talking about this and I get it we haven’t seen the best version of them and with this star studded team they haven’t played an attractive brand of football, since right now, Barcelona are playing much better than them and it’s not even close, not only are they getting results, but they have gone a full year undefeated in La Liga as the last time they lost a game in the league or in any competition was against Atletico Madrid as since the start of the 2023-24 season, in all competitions, they’ve only lost 2 games and that was against 1 team and during this period they’ve accumulated so many trophies and what’s impressive about the run they’re on as most of the time they haven’t always been that good as they scrape by results due to their reliance on individual brilliance. They’re playing against them at the weekend and obviously Real Madrid are going into that mentality trying to win the game not draw so that they can maintain their unbeaten streak especially when it’s going to end sooner or later. In that first half alone, we saw signs of the hype that was surrounding Real Madrid at the start of the season and the way they played was encouraging, just imagine if they’re able to play at this level for 90 minutes straight as they’re winning games without being as dominant as people think they should be as at the end of the day, they’re doing their job and at this level when competing for multiple trophies in a season, it’s important to pick up a significant amount of points even when the team isn’t firing on all cylinders.
