For people who dosen't know, Luigi voice here is actually the guy who translate the nintendo games in the 90's in French Julien Bardakoff who also translate the two first pokemon generations for the french versions.
I presume that town track was scrapped due to the PRIMITIVE rubberbanding AI from that era? Much less every other AI car smacking straight into the wall?
A lot of these unused tracks were designed with different physics/controls in mind (note the earlier versions of some stages being changed to accommodate for the final game's controls), and I would assume Town couldn't be adjusted for the new controls in time, so it was probably best to ditch it considering said time constraints.
Ironico que la beta tiene una cpu de rivales mas justa que el juego que nos dieron alfinal donde si la compu rival te sobrepasa se hace invisble y con turbo a maximo y es una derrota segura.
@@deoxysandmew2162 Yup. I have actually already done so (more like the RUclips algorithm suggested it to me, but whatever, lol), and my inner child felt so validated in the sense that even back then, I could tell that something just didn’t feel right. I always had the impression that the game was cheating hard on the player. Some videos mentioned rubberbanding and how it made some early racing games very annoying, feeling degenerate and unfair at times.
@@ChrisPTY507 Tell me about it... I grew up with Need For Speed Most Wanted on PS2 and the rubberband there got so bad on my copy, max stats isnt just enough and im forced to skip certain races and come back to them with near final possible stats in the game. And I played this game once every time yearly 100% everything every time too, so I know what im doing 99% outta the time. Its ludicrous. Makes you feel like, you aint winning, but rather wait till game lets you win. It aint true difficulty.
It always baffled me further that after adding it to basically every proceeding Mario Kart game they decided to REMOVE the feature from Mario Kart 7 on 3DS
You can, in time trials, being able to select a track like that has been a thing since super mario kart. And Vs race was introduced in super circuit (online only till Wii) which also allows you to choose which track to play on.
Only one of true interest exists. The first three are obvious testing maps, while 4th and 5th are just indev versions of final tracks, but Town? Now that one is veeeery interesting. I don't think we'd get a full "driving through a town" setup until Mario Kart DS witb Delfino Square, which bares some resemblance to the N64 town map.
I'm surprised none of the characters for the player to choose have high speed, the CPU seems to be going by 150cc speed but Mario and Luigi are driving with 100cc speed.
“Dear pesky plumbers, the koopalings and I have taken over the Mushroom Kingdom. The princess is now a permanent guest at one of my seven Koopa hotels. I dare you to find her if you can!”

You know whats crazier? Getting a star and lightning in 2nd place
I was so sad when the booster course didn't have Race2...
It did! Its beta/alpha DS Shroom Ridge
As a Wii fan, I can't believe we didn't get draw_demo_d

@Tomtycoon yes
Thank you so much! I love such facts!

at 15:59 Bowser fell to the water, yet in 16:00 he appears out of nowhere and even pass you by lol.
Yeah that's a quirk of the AI
If they are not on camera they basically get collisions turned off so they can take lines not physically possible
@@VanillaMidgetSSBM I always suspected as a child that the AI cheated. These videos confirms my theory.
@@ChrisPTY507 You can actually look up some videos on the CPUs cheating in Mario Kart 64 as many has done topic on it.

It still baffles me that Mario Kart 64 never had a single race option so you can race on any course you wanted without needing to do Grand Prix mode.
Not even in time trials? Lol racing games were still learning.

we need a mario kart 64 pc port
soon
soon
@@UnrealSM64 I don’t know if that’s the right answer considering the state of the activity of the Decompilation
We do
@RareSunwell there is recomp which is decent enough for now
It looks like the only level we're now missing is the garage port one.
That one has been deleted. It is lost to time.
If mario kart had a tournament scene that last map would be blacklisted ON THE SPOT!
The heck is that PFP 💀💀💀
third map: link
Link from zelda: hi there and welcome to link kart 64

Yes it is.
I'd love to see a complete version of the Town track. Would make a great track for a mod
all the turning.....
Imagine an open version as a Battle Mode track.

It's the ai rubberbanding. They go faster than the player.
@@manuelrodriguez3166 Yes, still the CPU has a speed limit I'm sure it can be lifted for the player.
My goodness I thought the rubber band was tight already, but in the beta it wasn't a rubber band at all.
That square track could be legitimately fun in the right context. Most likely multiplayer
RACE2's map reminds me of the Portland International Raceway but a bit simplified
I like that all characters have the same speed (all can win)... not as original game (just 2 and the player)
8:50 combo
honestly I'd love to see someone reimagine these beta levels as like, MK8 retro tracks it would be funny
Most of the maps need more turns while the town is too claustrophobic. I'd hate to race in these tracks tbh lol but nonetheless good showcase!
Is the voice beta to too? My version has mario saying these things "select map, select your player"
Japanese voices, just an option of the game.
Mario: what is he typing?
13:00 how are you in first place when Mario is in front the whole time?

This is what an Atari Jaguar version of Mario Kart 64 would look like, the first 3 tracks that is, not sure how the frame rate would be though
Toad actually sounds like Toad in this version.
But Luigi does not sound like Luigi.
Possible a voice mod for toad?
Man these tracks highlight the unforgiving rubberbanding AI
I did played this for first time today and u made an vid on this.
that last map is really interesting

Nice of them to license a port for Jaguar
This is perfect for newbies

What if we remade these tracks in ring racers?
The only ones i can see it fit with RR its Race2 and Link

The Town course reminds me of those awful city themed courses in Mario Kart 8 Deluxe. But not as bad, cuz it doesn't change the route each lap.

The same voice actors Nintendo used in Mario Party. And the same announcer as in Nintendo's other sports titles at the time.
