  • Battling a familiar face in Lance Lynn, the White Sox offense struck first. Gavin Sheets doubled to left field to score Nicky Lopez, then Eloy Jiménez hit a sacrifice fly to center field to score Tommy Pham and put the Sox up 2-0 in the top of the 1st.
Korey Lee would tack on one more in the top frame of the 4th, reaching on a fielding error by Cardinals second baseman, Nolan Gorman, allowing Andrew Benintendi to cross home. Sox led by 3.
With two runners on, Cardinals Brendan Donovan doubled down the first base line to score both Nolan Gorman and Michael Siani, cutting the Sox lead to 1. St. Louis would take the lead in the bottom of the 5th on a Nolan Arenado home run to center field.
However, the lead would be short lived as Korey Lee came through in the top of the 6th with a 2-RBI single to score Gavin Sheets and Eloy Jiménez, who reached base on back-to-back walks. Tied at 5.
Stellar defense by Andrew Vaughn and Jordan Leasure kept Nolan Arenado from scoring to take the lead.
The game would go to the 10th tied at 5. With Rafael Ortega at second, Tommy Pham came up CLUTCH with a single to left field, scoring Ortega and giving the Sox a 6-5 lead.
Cardinals would load the bases in the bottom of the frame with no outs. John Brebbia fanned the next two batters, Lars Nootbaar and Masyn Winn, in a torrential downpour to make it two outs with the bases still loaded. On a 0-1 count, the game entered a three-hour rain delay.
Tanner Banks entered the game and got the final out on a called strike three to end the game and secure the Sox win!
Erick Fedde got the start and pitched into the 5th inning. Tim Hill came in relief and retired all 6 Cardinals he faced, fanning one. Michael Kopech was throwing flames, notching 100+ mph on 4 pitches.
The Chicago White Sox defeated the St. Louis Cardinals, 6-5, at Busch Stadium in St. Louis, MO.

Yes he is, but the only hope I have for my White Sox this year is to secure the #1 draft pick

@@psykkodrama they can’t get the number 1 pick bc of the new draft rules. The highest they can get is number 10

Such a relief. I know that our season has really been rough but thank goodness that we fought through 3 HOURS OF RAIN to end up winning.
Personally I was nervous when I saw the screen frozen with the image of us in the bottom of 10, one run lead, bases loaded and a 0-1 count. All scenarios popped into my head once the game resumed but all in all, a crazy win for our boys!

Same bro. A win is a win. Been a rough season for sure, but nobody even myself predicted a 7-26. They were expected to be bad but not historically bad.

@@aidenawe9359: No doubt. The way the season started, I thought it was a fluke but clearly issues are more serious than we thought.
Hopefully when this season officially, the team and organization as a whole sit down and review it all, making sure it never happens again.

I didn't see the game, but from what I see here, it looks like the Sox took advantage of some bad Cardinal pitching. This team's offense really sucks. I wonder what hitting coach Marcus Thames is doing -- or not doing. I didn't expect much from this year's Sox offensively, but this is ridiculously below even the worst expectations.
Waiting 3 hours just for one final out? It seems Cardinal fans didn't wait.
I have my TV set to record tomorrow's game. I will watch it in the evening.

Lance Lynn sucked last year and he’s been ok so far. He heavily relies on the fastball/cutter combo which isnt that dominate to begin with. Their offense hasn’t been terrible this week minus yesterday’s game.

Not only this was the longest rain delay for the 10th inning, but this Sox win in St. Louis occurred at the same time as the 150th Kentucky Derby.
