Norfolk Coast Path - the Final Leg. Caister to Hopton-on-Sea. Ultralight Backpacking.

- In this video, I continue walking the final leg of the Norfolk Coast Path after a damp and cold night wild camping on the beach. Waking up to a stunning sunrise and bright blue skies, I make coffee and breakfast before packing away and hitting the trail for the last 10 miles to Hopton - the official end of the Norfolk Coast Path.
Passing Caister, with its deep history back to Roman times and home to one of Britains few remaining independent lifeboat stations, housed in the aptly name ‘Lifeboat Shed’, I continue first along the beach and then the dunes and finally into the busy sounds and sights of Great Yarmouth, one of the busiest coastal towns along the East Anglian coast.
This section of the walk is certainly not a highlight and is tough going as you trudge along miles of pavement and tarmac roads, but unavoidable in order to get back to the beach at Gorleston. A chippy lunch and I’m ready for the last couple of miles to the end of the trail. The power of the sea is ever present as I made my way along the back of the sea defences - the waves smashing into and over the huge ageing timber structure.
The end of the trail could be seen as a bit of an anticlimax - no board or sign to congratulate you on your achievement, no fanfare, no kiosk selling ice cream or even a pub with a refreshing cold pint of beer - just a trail sign giving you the distance back to Sea Palling. But that’s not what it’s really about - the reward is reflecting back on all the wonderful sights and experiences you have had along the way, the satisfaction of completing the walk - all 87 miles of it and the anticipation of the next trail, the next adventure and all that has to offer!
I hope you enjoy the video, thanks for watching!

I wish America had fish and chip shops in every town .👍🏻😋
Absolutely love watching these videos , On a 6 day wild camp trek to Norfolk tomorrow can’t wait !! Thanks for all you do Simon.
Sitting at home isolating with the family as we've all got the "C" word making hammocks that I'm unable to go and test! And then Simon shines a little Ray of sunshine on my sewing marathon.
Get well soon mate - all the best to you and yours - love the fact you’re making hammocks 👍😀
Get well soon.
atb to you and your family, get well soon!
So Sorry to hear 🥺, hope you & your family are doing okay 🙏.
Get well soon! And happy sewing!
Amazing journey! You are so lucky to have documented this time on Earth.
Fab Simon. 👍👍👍 The Sunrise and Photography in the first few minutes was especially pleasing. 🙂 Br, Gaz.
Simon your videos are always a pleasure to watch, the production and editing are first class.
Thank you.
Hi Simon 😊 a brilliant last leg on this great trip you've taken us on, very atmospheric filming, and I couldn't wait till you left Great Yarmouth and picked up the edge of the coast again, this whole series has been just the greatest of pleasures to watch, and I for one can't wait to see what you bring for us next, full mark's ,mate. Many thanks, stay safe, best wishe's to you and your's, Stuart UK.
Silhouette of you, the ducks or geese in a v and the music 10/10 for a start to a video! 💪
Thanks Craig!
Thanks for showing us the British coast line and some great camping...
I like it here. You're a fine, respectable young man. Works and takes care of his 👪. 👍.
Another great video. I've actually started listening to Zachariah Hickman, thanks to your videos. Love his music.
Well done. Thanks for sharing this walk with us. Good job on conveying the dissonance of a 'long distance walk' passing through a concrete, urban, crowded area.
I am now housebound and I so enjoy being able to follow you walking along my beloved Norfolk coast. It's been so many years since I was able to do that but it was lovely to see it through your eyes. Thank you, bless you.
....enjoyed that section. The battered sausage looked well needed too.
All the best.😎☯️🌱
Wonderful that you could “finish”, as if you’ll ever finish, in such great weather 😄👍
Thanks for a great walk Simon, it’s been so nice. Plenty of tips and new gear for me to buy. Thank you again.
As an American, I can only say . . . . DUDE, YOU ROCK!!!
Thanks as always for taking us along Simon, atb

Brought back wonderful memories of Great Yarmouth when in the UK 60-62. THANK YOU, Simon.
Fantastic journey on your walkabout along the coast Simon! Thanks for sharing the experience with us!
I have gotten into the habit now of watching your previous video on the day the latest one is released so that I always have one spare to watch :) Video gets liked every time even before watching. Great video as always Simon, so glad to have found this channel 2 years ago now. I hope you will continue to make them and the comments I leave now and then on videos (as well as all the other kind comments I see on your videos) will hopefully show you the appreciation to do so.
Nice one Simon brought back many many memories of Norfolk, I was born in Caister then I went away and join the army and I live in Wales now.Plenty of great walks over here, but unfortunately I’m in a wheelchair now. But I still manage to do while camping and go on many great adventures life never stops enjoy it.
Well done on finishing the last bit! Really enjoyed that, thank you Simon 👍
As you talked about the next walk, you got a twinkle in your eyes and cheeks got ruddy so I do believe it will be next...lolol....Thank you Simon for taking us along your walk. Lovely scenery along the way. Hope your home and warm and have a great week. Take Care and keep walking.👍👍👍👍👍
I cycled from near Bedford to Great Yarmouth as part of my Duke of Edinburgh's award back in - get this - 1983. I can honestly say, it was a dump back then too :-)
Your videos make Wednesdays a great day!
Really enjoyed the video. Some incredible photography. Thank you for sharing
Gotta corner of the lounge for my isolation days, just 'nuff space to walk along with Simon ( all 47 miles on one spot ha ha!). Definitely a sanity saver, thanks so much. Can't wait to see more of your treks and tips, and get out again myself. Great stuff
It's a good your not a fisherman! You'd never finish these walks🐟😂

Been eagerly awaiting for this episode. Great!
Fantastic video. Have enjoyed watching the series.
Great drone footage Simon. It's been a wonderful journey and a privileged to share it with you. I think the coastal path will be calling you toward Essex.
Great video! And I love the music you pick out, too. Thank you.
Cracking video Simon enjoyed both video really enjoyable to watch excellent ☺👍
Such a mellow show to subscribe to.

Simon a Bloke in the Woods… Norfolk’s very own Golden Nugget 🤩👍
Inspiring Simon. As I enter my fifties, I’m entering that crossroads in life of what to do next. The Norfolk coastal path look looks very likely. A wonderful series. Well done, and thank you very much for sharing your continuing adventures :)
I agree. If I didn't live in Canada and there weren't travel restrictions here, I seriously think I'd hop on a plane and do that footpath!
It’s well worth it! So much variety, and lots of good places to stay along the route if you don’t feel like roughing it 👍
Thanks for sharing, Simon 👍
Brilliant. Thanks for sharing.
Bravo, Simon! You made Yarmouth look good 😀
😂😂
Great to see you complete the norfolk coast path cheers simon
I've always felt a little guilty watching your videos because I know how much work goes into shooting and editing them. They really are a gift. You've grown so much as a photographer, editor, and storyteller. Thank you.

Can't beat some tasty chips from and English chippy 👍🏻👌🏻👍🏻
Just fantastic. You've taken thousands of followers with you on this walk. Loved every minute.
Some top drawer cinematography in this episode, nice job 🙂
And well done for finishing. I must do Cornwall one day before I get too old.
Couldn’t wait for this one! Thanks Simon!!! You’re awesome!!
Fish n Chips always seem to taste better on the coast and especially if you're eating them on the beach, just a little jealous 😀
Seeing the seals made me binge watch Ocean Conservation Namibia (seals, seals and more seals)
Congrats on completing your walk. Great Yarmouth: no longer the idyll of Ham and Peggoty.
Excellent Video and ending
Great hike, very interesting. Another nice video. Greetings from Austria. Tom!

Bold move there setting those fish and chips down around those gulls hahaha
Really enjoyed these video's, I think I'll give it a crack, or a bit of it anyway...Thanks Simon...Subed.
Simon,
Really enjoyed seeing you complete your walk along the beautiful and varied Norfolk coast. I’ve only done the stretch from Hunstanton to Cromer,so I am looking forward to completing both the Peddars Way and Cromer to Hopton. Also like the sound of the footpath from Gt Yarmouth back to your original start point.Feeling I need to get some miles in myself as just signed up to the “Great Norfolk hike” in May,walking the 26 miles in a day from Cromer to Holkham in aid of MacMillan Cancer support….should be a good challenge for a great cause.
Keep up the top work
Best wishes
Stuart
.
As someone once said to me through a car window in a traffic jam… ‘what’s so “Great” about Yarmouth’…
If I’d have done it before it changed,, I’d have said the end of the coastal path. 👍 Guess it’s another reason to get out and do it again. Great LDP/route
Keep at it 👊💥
Yessss! Forgot it's Wednesday! 😀
I'm grinning from ear to ear seeing how happy you are with reaching the end and achieving your goal. Congratulations. Silly as it seems..I never thought of breaking up a long distance walk into manageable sections a few days at a time until I watched your last video 🤦♀️ A whole new opportunity lays before me now. Thanks Simon 👏
Another nice video., good job.

Right off the bat, flock of Geese flying overhead. 1 minute in . Just like a coastal hike in Newfoundland Canada. Cheers brother!
Hi Simon. Can’t wait to see your last leg of the journey. It’s been awesome to watch you
Keep going Simon. You have reached the beginning of the Suffolk path well maybe a bit of gap. Do that before the walk back to netti heath.
